    It is amazing how these cheap, simple machines can make the job of doing quite good espressos. I got Dedica, just because I watched your videos and was influenced to get one, and it was sweet little footprint 'spresso maker. Now I have Flair 58, but this Gaggia and similar are so cheap, that when I'd like to get one just for fun and for a little experimenting, it is no problem at all to buy it. I do like your channel, it's very informative and your way of describing things is enjoyable. Keep on doing this, thank you for your dedication to the community, cheers! :-)

      @@cyberpope2137 I don't like it because it's limited on what you can control when pulling a shot and a bit overpriced for what you can find on the market. The only upside is that it does not take a lot of space on the counter. I kept mine because I received it as a gift, but I would not have bought it otherwise.

      Dedica is absolutely overpriced for what it is. Doesn't have a single feature to stand out, compared to entry level Gaggia Vivo style, for example, which goes for around 100€. Also, in my country we have an entry lvl appliance, selling for 65euros on a discount (one of Gorenje model), which also has volumetric dosing, like Dedica, which sells for 200€.

    This setup is ~$320 including the k4 grinder and the bottomless portafilter. That’s insane value. A few years ago I bought a Commandante hand grinder and a Flair pro 2 and I love it to this day and thought it would be the minimum viable espresso setup. But the commandante alone is more expensive than what you have there.

    Thanks for the shout out Tom 😀. Great video! 🙌. Yeah the version I've got is the style, the top is rippled, there's no tray. I've got the Edesia portafilter too, they also do a 53mm one with a metal splitter, too which is the one I've got. Yeah it's a thermoblock heater, and no solenoid.
    6:05 jump scare! 🤣
    With the style, the base version I have, the icons on the buttons themselves light up, and I really struggled to see it too with studio lighting, but in normal lighting they seem fine.
    You sure your wand doesn't tilt? Mine does, it was stiff at first though.

      Yes, the machine scared me, as I wasn't expecting it to suddenly prime itself. It was a long delay 😅
      In the kitchen, the lights are ok, but still not super visible. But in the studio lighting I couldn't really see them at all.

    Great that it´s cheap and functional. Keep in mind that the bottomless PF will cost $48 USD approximately (ebay price in US) so the realistic price would take that into consideration or else you could simply modify the pressurized PF. It looks as if the difference in cost is simply the difference in between plastic and metal build construction along with the PF and 3-way solenoid. A Gaggia Classic Pro EVO can be had for $500 USD -- metal with a 58mm metal PF..you get what you pay for :-)

      @@briantan3931 sure. would likely work (53mm) -- however, I'm with him on the cheapness of the feel of the all plastic PF. coincidentally, I've been playing a lot with the Saeco Via Veneza (a.k.a. Starbucks Barista) which has a very overengineered portafilter - the basket is a normal basket but there's a restriction/valve mechanism that shifts with the handle position -- a bit of a shame really as the body of the thing is solid brass. If you remove the valve mech, you have a non-pressurized if not annoying PF.

I wonder if a new intermediate model with pid added to the Gagia Classic model will come soon. I cannot decide whether it would be more logical to wait. How often do you think the new models of Gagia Classic will be released in 2024 or 2025? Is there a new Gagia New Classic model with a thermometer with added pid or 9 bar pressure features? This looks like a cheapened version of the inimitable Saeco Via Venezia (aka Starbucks Barista). The Saeco machine was built to last - all metal housing, very heavy plastic tank and drawers, solid portafilter. Mine is 23 years old and I use it every day. It's hard to imagine this plastic Gaggia lasting that long.
    Also, you mentioned the top as a "drip tray." Is it not a cup warmer?

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  7 місяців тому

      Yes, you're right I misspoke. It's a cup warmer, not a drip tray. The Via Venezia was a boiler machine though, while this is a modern thermoblock with PID. So it's a bit different. But yes, with the plastic build, I don't suppose it will weather 23 years. Time will tell.
