TF2: The Mann Brothers Gravel Empire
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 сер 2024
- In the most educational video I've ever done, I discuss the TRUE value of gravel, why the Gravel Wars weren't for a useless resource and how the Mann brothers kept up their rich heritage!
Massive thanks to Vice for helping me out with the script. Took a lot of research that I wasn't super knowledgeable in and we have even more to discuss in a follow up video.
I forgot to credit one of the songs in the video

Gravel > Australium
Yes
Wow I didn't expect too see you here lol
Yes
well, not really.
Would love a gravel reskin of australium weapons
Gravel can be mined for flint and flint can be used for flint and steel, and arrows
Assuming you can find a reasonably sized piece of flint. That's why drop rates are relatively low.
And selling that would be alot of money
They give sniper all the flint
Be sure not to dig straight up when you do that and bring a torch to clear out a lot if the situation calls for it
And you can go the nether
so they are actaully geniuses that made an empire off gravel and sand.
*zepheniah shakes in his tomb*
Aleczen hUntiluntil Redmond and Blutarch tried to build a machine that turns gravel into coal and uses that to fuel the pregnancy machine.
They are well taught but with out a doubt are not very smart.
My question is which one would've been made pregnant...
I congratulate you for being able to spell his name
face ass I mean they are literally like 160 years old on the shittier versions of the infinite life machine that actually lets them die for a moment, can't be good for intelligence.
Grey Mann on the other hand
, has a machine that *doesnt* kill him for minutes at a time, and did have the better upbringing/start, so he's still got his wits.
There are many uses of gravel:
We can feed our king.
His name is Malcolm.
We must feed him gravel.
Grind him up and make money out of him
Nice DHMIS reference
Wow... Now that is an abstract reference
@@joelk3187 no it's not
McCarthy's Ghost yes it is. DHMIS is nothing to do with TF2.
I guess you could say... He took gravel...

What a pain in the asphalt!
One thing I never saw considered was that the two late Mann brothers were actually going senile, and that while their professional business work had been done already and has both companies running well on economy, they could simply be still stuck in their endless bickering which they've practiced their whole lives as they were losing their minds, which explains their outright obsessive glorification of gravel; the thing their father left behind- which also could symbolise them competing for their father's affection. Or it could just be comedic rivalry, who knows.
i don't like gravel its coarse and rough and it gets everywhere
And it tastes bad too
I like gravel it's just like me.
And it's not an instrument
"Not like you. You're soft and smooth."
Liam Tolentino finally someone who gets it bloody hell that took almost a day
This video has made me realise how much more sense the entire lore actually makes. Like yeah, it´s dumb and crazy, but it all fits together into a pretty smooth narrative (which is way more than I could say for a certain other class based team fps ahem ahem). They´re fighting over the same land, so they build close to each other not only to have a quick access to the battlefield, but also to easily capture the other brother´s factory. MannCo makes profit from war and selling guns to the brothers, who also make money with their many companies, but are still fueled by the disappointment from their father. Every map is littered with spy equipment because of the era and also to spy on the brothers, which in the end makes the administrator the puppet master.
IT JUST MAKES SENSE and I´m so happy that it does.
You should read the official tf2 comic
yeah its pretty amazing how such a whacky and zany shooter has so much lore and intelligent character development.
and Valve just came up with all of it as it went! nothing was there when TF2 started. AMAZING
Anthony of course it did, it doesn't mean everyone isn't insane but yeah.
Yea the lore is one of my favourite things about TF2 lol
Whichever one of the sons owns "Newell and Sons Co." is obviously the richest.
It got re branded as Mann Co. And the Hale family owns it.

I never knew the lore of TF2 was this insane until I discovered your channel
Dammit I thought I had a hair on my screen
Hah you fool i have a dark theme UA-cam
It's true that gravel is useful for construction of roads and buildings, and a lot of the other businesses link up for a powerful mega-corporation on either side. But I'm pretty sure that their father knew that Australium existed, and since Australium practically makes people superhuman, it makes the multi billion dollar idea of gravel seem like a drop in the bucket.
Their dad probably heard about it but i don't think he knew what it could do if he did then we would have bought it as fast as possible
Didnt gray mann think that steamboats were fueled by gravel?
@@unusuallyretarded8072 No, Gray Mann was the only one of the brothers that realized steam engines were powered by coal not gravel.
Sandvichninja okay
Wow. This is really impressive. I've never seen anyone delve this deep into TF's lore and history before. Can't wait for the next one!
The lore changes itself as it develops, which renders most discussions like this devoid of meaning and metaphysical permanency.
My mind has never been more blown.
I thought the whole point was that zephaniah agreed to buy the land in NM because Redmond and blutarch convinced him it was full of gravel. It wasn't. It was full of "fool's gravel", namely sand.
You also use river sand for concrete, not desert sand. There are reasons you don't see people excavating deserts for massive profits.
But in recent comics the no more Mann co it is revealed there is lead poisoning in the water so maybe they did find gravel after a few years
Actually there’s a new method being developed that mixes river and desert sand to make concrete.
I thought they called coal fool's gravel

Moonman : KKK
Moonman has earned the achievement “Be Polite”
I always thought the war for gravel was a little jab in the comics on the new war on Australium as in people are still killing eachother for a bunch of rocks, nothing has changed.
I would assume why their father said it worthless is probably because originally he thought they purchased a land that they can mine for gold or other resources instead of gravel. Cause the most of the early map feel more like a gold mine or other kind of resources more then a gravel mine. So I would assume they got trick buying land that someone already hollow out cause they are idiot. After awhile till they realize it worthless gravel at that point in time, so he dem it worthless cause it a waste of money for something that wouldn't be use regularly in that time.
Even if it regularly use they just toooooo idiotic to think using it for building but instead of their idiotic ideas. Cause the only person would realize the use of gravel is the administrator. It's would explain where she would has the money to fund the team. Cause I don't think they has a share bank account with Mann. Co after their father death or has enough fund for a 100 years war.
Redmond and Blutarch legitimately think gravel is a type of fuel btw.
Ok can someone translate this please
actually, the Administrator received her money from Zephaniah Mann's will that states the rest of Zephaniah's riches excluding the Mann. Co arms company are hers, while the two brothers only receives the lands that they told him to purchase.
Redmond and Bluterch did get their wishes at the end in that they're making money via selling gravel (and other things), despite being blinded by the myth that gravel were valuable fuel sources.
@@wotwott2319 They believe it can help them make a pregnancy machine out of gravel and impregnate one of them for a kid.
So the possibility of that they try to sell their gravel is really low. The only way they would sell it is the administrator selling it behind their back.
The Manns moved out to America during the mid 1800s. It wouldn't be for another 70 or so years until the highway system's development would begin. On top of that, Zepheniah was an arms dealer, not an infrastructure tycoon, so how he saw gravel's value would be much different from how his sons would. At the very least, the Mann Bros. were able to see the use of gravel for non-warfare purposes.
I doubt that they had the foresight to predict the US's highway plans nor the high demand for gravel it would bring in the near future, but you can't deny that if not for all the gravel they obtained then RED, BLU, and even Mann Co. wouldn't be the big successful companies they are during the events of the game, or at least not to the degree they are.
Just imagine Zepheniah's reaction when he realized how profitable gravel is if he were still alive.
He knew how profitable it was, she got it wrong. He bought the land BECAUSE of the gravel, but he was pissed that the land was worthless because Redmond and blutarch could not tell gravel and sand apart.
Imagime gravel being an all class, throwable item. It would probably begin to be a problem and Valve would balance it out. But imagine tho.
I've never seen a more detailed "tf2 universe" explanation, you had the patience to search up all thoose historical, economical and geological informations to make a very clear explanation about a central point of the whole tf2 world, wich you did with professionalism and accuracy. Really good job, now you got a subscriber.
Oi
I've got a few question that's been on my mind.
1.Which team's souls medic exactly took? Most people say it's TF2 mercs ofc, but what about TFC mercs?
Nowhere exactly specified which souls medic surgically added. TFC medic is absent for a reason imo...
Also if medic took TF2 mercs souls how would explain sniper appearing in "heaven's secret base"
when he was close to death (yes, medic told him it's been hallucinations, but still) and scout literally talking to God himself and getting back to life from heaven. Doesn't make much sense if their souls bound to hell at this point. I might be wrong it's TF2 story after all.
Even medic himself it seems probably not sure which souls he took by saying "It's because we don't have souls." And replying on miss Pauling question he says "Well, *THEY* don't. But- Nothing, carry on." Might be just me, but I think it's interesting topic nonetheless.
2.Echelon citadel. Team Vanguard. TFC mercs spent 6 months huntin' down Administrator's best. They got 'em all.
In the last words of TFC heavy "All she had left was you rejects. How...the hell..."
Basically I'm just wondering if there's more to TFC mercs story as appear in the comic. Why there's only BLU team of them?
I guess BLU TFC team hunted down RED TFC one and that might the reason why there's no TFC BLU medic in the comic so far...
The fact that Administrator gathered 89, tonnes of australium aside from the last cache in existance without some help in the past 6 months (when she met miss Paulling in 4th comic) is really...raising few questions.
Keep up the good work ^^
Really love these kind of vids.
The only team established to definitely exist with our mercs is the RED one, BLU is in a limbo-like state where technically only one mercenary exists but appears twice. It cant really be explained beyond that BLUs team is a plot-device.
The fact that both characters managed to get to heaven without having souls simply means they dont need souls to go to heaven. For all we know its only a currency in hell, and even then its still only a currency.
He took the MVM teams souls, which is technically all 9 mercs souls from both teams, which both exist at once -plot device- etc.
There are more mercenaries, you can see them during the Tough Break comic chatting with Saxton.
Same as TF2, TFCs other team (in this case probably the red one) only exists as a concept.
The administrator most likely just erased all records of the subsidary company from either BLU or RED she ordered to clean it up. And, against Skymins theorys, it is most likely the case that BLU and RED own the world, considering we see their surveillance technology in facilities that logically cant be in america, meaning that they arent just there for selling gravel. (To note at that, they also have equipment in europe since the spytech in DeGroot Keep means they are still in the 70s, just unarmed and in Europe)
Maaaaybe they have cloning machines...(It is definitely possible as we have Engi's grandpa making life extenders and stuff like that). That could explain why and how the mercs are able to be on both sides at the same time, respawn, and even multiplying while keeping their memories and personalities.
Did you know that Fred is the father of Dell Conagher/Engineer? The photo is revealed that Engi's father is Fred Conagher the TFC merc, it can see if you look one of the update logs that I think it is from the Engineer's update.
This is actually really cool. I love it when little details like this are thought out and expanded upon, by devs or fans.
the off music caught me off gaurd. i was sitting there listening and kepted thinking to my self "huh this sounds like something from off" so i checked and damn it is i love that game and thought it had been forgotten

You deserve so many more subbs you're editing is great I saw your video on medic v mercy and it was great
It was really nice seeing all the research you put into this video. I'm also glad you identified equivalent locations in modern day New Mexico and a bit of the industries going on here. And you're right about the minerals, it's a big deal. There are tons of natural resources here being used in state and cross state lines. In addition to granite being useful in infrastructure, it's big in home decor in use for countertops. Just the natural rocks and the many variations in colors cost thousands for a couple polished slabs. Anyway, looking forward to Part 2!
Well they're dead so i guess it was worthless while they were alive

Tbh, this is the most interesting, and some (like me) would even say the best video you have made, maybe its's just because I really enjoy interesting history, and TF2, but maybe it's because I could feel the research and effort put into the video, I loved it so much! The only complaint I would have would probably be that some jokes fell flat, but still, if you made more videos like this, I would *totally* love it.

I never thought that gravel would be this interesting.
New intro is nice!
I just imagine Zephaniah reading a newspaper article about the importance of gravel seconds before death
How do I get my HUD to look like yours, I always loved that style.
There's actually a video on a similar topic where they talk about how the world is "running out of sand" by that they mean the right type of sand for quality cement, aka river sand.
Such a wacky and rediculous universe could make sense is amazing.
That was really interesting.
I hope you eventually cover some more of the lore.
At least make a video about Elizabeth, she is (imo) one of the most mysterious and interesting characters in the story so far.
