In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Ironclad. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. As far as hypothetical new Neow bonuses, what about getting to pick 1 of 3 shop relics? But the ones you don't pick will follow shop relic rules and never be seen again.
Shop relics are quite strong on average. I suspect it would get picked way too often to be interesting. Removing the other relics from the relic pool is actually a benefit, not a downside. You pick the best of the 3 relics, so either:
- The other 2 relics are good, which means the one you chose is REALLY good and should carry your run regardless of the remaining shop relics.
- The relic you chose isn't great, but that means the other 2 are worse, so you are happy to get rid of them since future shops will be much better. The only exception is Dolly's Mirror since it has no good targets at the start of a run.
Basically it's just too strong of a choice. It's a better click than boss swap in all cases except random curse, and even then the average outcome is good enough that taking a curse might actually be worth it almost always unless the map is dangerous.
I think a better way would be to get a relic that you can trade for a shop relic at the shop. That is probably more interesting because then it depends on how many shops you can get to in act 1, or whether you can path appropriately into act 2 with basically no Neow bonus until you can cash it in. This creates interesting decisions that eventually results in choosing a shop relic, but doesn't give you the immediate power on floor 1 where the choice is pretty much "nothing else matters, give me the shop relic".
Baalor I was watching this video and went "huh, I haven't seen a Corruption in my runs in a while." I finished watching and then immediately got my first A20 win, and it was with a Corruption deck. I've been grinding every character up the ascensions and finally beat the heart (quite handily). Your videos have been immensely helpful and entertaining, and when I 100% the game it'll be mostly thanks to you

I barely see you upgrade the limit break... Is there a reason for that?
Limit Break is usually good enough the first time you play it and it exhausting increases your draw consistency.
Depends on how reliant the deck is on raw strength scaling. Easy answer is it is really slow for hallway fights and can be a bit bricky, especially early. For reference, there are a lot of attacks in the game that are either +3, or +4 on upgrade (strike and twin strike for easy examples, respectively), so you can roughly consider inflame+ an upgrade to every attack in your deck. Generally, in winning runs, your deck needs to be able to play a higher quantity of cards to be able to stack up enough numerical value to win later fights, while needing a high enough quality per card to get over Time Eater. If you can reasonably play multiple attacks on a turn while still making block, that is generally an easier and more consistent way to deal with fights (less true for bosses, more true for hallway fights). He might also find supplemental damage sources, like flame barrier, letter opener, or juggernaut, that would reduce reliance on attack damage and "widen" his damage engine a bit. Basically, the answer comes down to "it depends". Theoretically, he could have a streak of runs where upgrading it is good. High hp+Reaper makes stalling for multiple limit break plays easier. In order for the upgrade to do anything in a combat, you need to already have strength, and cycle into it twice.
Edit: Corruption also kinda blanks the upgrade depending on draw order and how long you hold corruption. Let's say you hold corruption for 2 turns; that corruption was functionally an injury for those two turns. Similarly, if you don't want limit break for a fight, at worst the un-upgraded version is a slimed.
Lb also needs str the first time you play it so you may not play it the first time you see it and the fight is over by the third time.
A couple reasons. First, in most fights you're only going to get to play Limit Break in a meaningful capacity once; by the time you get back through your deck to Limit Break again, you've already done enough damage to kill without playing it again. Headbutt makes the upgrade a little better, since you can put it back on top of your deck. Second, Corruption (one of the Ironclad's best powers) makes the upgrade pretty pointless. The reason Baalor upgraded Limit Break in this run is because it solved a specific problem facing him immediately, which was the Collector fight.

This is the first deck I’ve ever seen in my life where I wouldn’t have taken corruption. It’s my favorite card but I cringed every time he played it… I just like massive numbers with limit break so I was sad to see it go..

@@stompingpeak2043 it’s so impractical as even 10 strength is enough to make a massive difference but there’s just something so nice about seeing big numbies on the clad bonks that just make me happy… lol
@@HardxCorpsxKali sure sometimes 10 is enough but I'd say once you get around that 20 or 30 strength you're perfectly setup to win runs. Like the other day I had gamblers chip, couple blood letting, offering, multiple heavy blade, spot weakness, limit, and a few others with pandora. So it was a deck with under 20 cards and I could draw them all multiple times on turn 1 and win every fight. Since my strength was through the roof with heavy blade
