About a year ago, I decided to start grinding my own coffee beans so, I purchased this grinder and I love it. I just wanted a good grinder to brew coffee in my Bonavita drip coffee maker and was very pleased with the results. I also started buying various types of coffee beans from different vendors so, I am very busy trying different beans and grind settings. It's a real education but, I think that I am close to dialing in my favorite combination. Unless you are a total coffee snob, I would highly recommend this grinder.
Gail! Love your style of presentation! It's laid out in an easy to understand method. With what it is, what you recommend to use it for, the features stated on the box and the features not stated on the box, but especially your pros and cons. Your own tips or your own way of assessing the grinder/products is a real cherry on top. Thank you, good work, keep being great.

what I learned after about 2 years with this dedica grinder and dedica coffee machine set: note these are all minor things and the machine is the best on the market for its price range. 1. remove the steamer cover - it's useless, the rubber nozzle underneath is better and allows more control, if you experience the nozzle pop off during steaming, just buy a tiny cable tie and this fixes it easily. The steamer has very good pressure however needs to run in the on position to get out condensation for a few seconds like most machine in this bracket 2. the Red light flashing on the coffee machine after a few weeks of use means it requires descaling, you can use vinegar to save money and get the same result. 3. the machine uses a pressurized basket that delivers good coffee with this grinder, however, if you want to replace it with a nonpressurized basket - this coffee grinder does not do a fine enough grind, and it will pour shots way too quickly. you can modify the grinder with a washer to get a finer grind however it is a difficult upgrade and will void your warranty, it may also strain the motor and shorten the grinder's life. 4. the basket is 51mm NOT 58mm, this will help when purchasing an aftermarket tamper or filter basket 5. You shouldn't/cannot use a Bang Bang with this machine The pressurized basket has a little round filter disk that sits loosely within it, if you use a Bang Bang method to remove coffee grinds, this piece can/will fall out each time with the spent puck and render the basket unusable. Without this infill piece, the basket will not pass coffee through the group head and you will think your machine is broken. simply search for the infill piece before you throw out your spent coffee pucks as its difficult to replace this piece. 6. would I buy it again, I still own this machine and would only replace it with a sage/Breville dual boiler system which is 4X the price
I use this mashine at home for few months now and I totaly agree with what she said about it. I use it with the Dedica Espresso mashine and if you are okay with pressureized systems you get great value out of both of em. You need to know some tricks to make consistantly good/okay (not great) coffe with this combo.
I use this grinder for non pressurized baskets. Most of the time I only need to use the setting on 2. As the beans get older I go to 1. Really fresh beans I sometimes use setting 3.
I owned this when I owned the Dedica Espresso Machine, and thought it was fine. When I upgraded to a non pressurized machine, I discovered that it couldn't actually grind fine enough and had to take it back. Get one of the the Breville grinders in the same price range instead.
Best presentation I've found. The non-pressurized vs pressurized system was a saver, I got the EC685 but got an aftermarket bottomless, non-pressurized portafilter/basket. Was this close to getting the machine
I bought the sage dose control pro its really good it grinds fine enough for non pressurised baskets it even grinds fine enough for turkish coffee which it finer than espresso i really recommend it i bought it on amazon uk for 158 pounds which is 184.95 euro it usually retails for 190 euro hope this helps
Same noise as smart grinder pro and looks similar plus very similar functions, but sgp grinds perfectly fine for espresso extraction without pressurised baskets

Why does everything have to go digital? How hard could it be for a manufacturer to make a simple, stepless, reasonably made grinder without all the electronic crap.
I just bought this and using the portafiler attachment and the portafilter from the dedica arte. While it grinds a lot of coffee powder "fly's" out there making a huge mess on the counter. Is that normal?
Unfortunately grinding coffee is a messy job, and humidity (or lack of it) can actually cause the grounds to fly around a bit. That said, it shouldn't be more than a quick wipe of the counter can't clean up.

Hello! I have this grinder at home I am mostly happy with it but there are a few things that I want to ask. I feel like the finest it can grind is not fine enough for espresso because no matter how much I tamp, I get the same flow every time. Is it because the machine can not grind any finer or something I might be doing wrong? Secondly I also have a V60 and I am grinding my coffee beans at 6 (the last level of the espresso grind scale on the machine). Can you recommend me any other setting for that? Which fineness level should I use for V60 on this grinder? Thank you so much in advance. I hope you will answer :)
I had the same problem (not fine enough). There is a very simple hack / mod you can do to get finer grind (have to add a small washer). I tried and it works, and now I can grind fine enough for non-pressurized portafilters.
Hi Gale, I have this grinder and the Dedica espresso machine, what would you do to make the coffee have more flavor? it tastes good just not as full in flavor as I know this coffee and It comes out a bit too mellow. Thank you, I love the videos.
Did you try tamping the coffee with more force? That's change the flavor the most from my experience using the same machine. I've managed to almost clog it all up with my 2nd espresso ever, it literally dripped out (I know that's not a good idea) but the taste was something completely different and might be to someone's taste.. but the Illy Intenso double shot made like that almost killed me.
Anybody can recommend best entry-level grinder for a non-pressurized Rancilio Silvia machine? This is recommended only for pressurized portafilter machines...
there is a some sort of espresso holder, which you can not find even in the guide, place the espresso handle to the filter holder accessory and grind espresso,I think that programming stuff can be done as well.there is another delonghi product to use espresso handle
I have this grinder for about a year, very unhappy with this grinder, getting frequently clogged up, consistency is very questionable, very high static.
Would this grinder give me the proper grind for those Keurig refillable coffee filters? I don't have a Keurig coffee maker but, I want to give my sister a good grinder to use with her Keurig machine. Thanks.
Is it ok to grind a large amount? My breville grinder kind of errors out when i try to change from espresso grind to filter and it stops working when i grind a large amount hehe
Can someone help me with differences between the Delonghi Dedica 520 vs. 521. I know the 521 have a display, is there other things?? The 521 costs 65 dollars more, is it worth to pay that extra?
