For example Buckingham palace can be for the president, other royal places can fully open up for visitors. The main problem is a philosophical one when it comes to monarchy, as everyone should be equal under the law, but monarchs are above the law by birthright. Also you can have a president without the president being a divisive figure, just look at how the system is set up in Finland for example, the president in Finland is basically like what a royal is, but only for a certain amount of years.

Whenever I debate the monarchy issue I always lead with this "Can we agree that the idea of ruling by divine right and hereditary bloodline is immoral?". If the answer to that is no, then I already know we are at an impasse and I am wasting my time as we have two incredibly different views on morality. Honestly, anyone saying no to that question should be a major concern.

People where I live earn at most £1,500 a month and the cheapest rents are £900 per month and that is for a two bed where those with children have siblings of both sexes sharing one bedroom. In fact the local councillor told one family they could put the oldest son in the kitchen. There was no room for wardrobes and each child had a box on their bed with their clothes in. I am just an ordinary member of the public yet it was I that helped that family. I found a 3 bed house for them from a friend at £500 per month and gave them half my furniture so they had beds, settee and wardrobes.

When I was younger I wasn't a fan of the royal family as I got older I came to respect the Royal Family and understand that they give continuity to the country instead of being in constant flux, as are countries with elected heads of state. Britain has had, for YEARS, an elected 'Head of State''. Much like here in Thailand, the King's (and in Britain, the Queen's) role was largely ceremonial. Yes, they carried huge influence, but in DIRECT political power, not so much.
The Queen was an excellent impartial adviser to our various Prime Ministers, using her great experience across so many years. No political role. The Government ultimately makes policies, etc, with the elected Prime Minister and MP's making decisions, and I'm sure there have been various policies over the years, that she felt uncomfortable with, but still had to read out at the Opening of Parliament and "sign off". We never knew what her political views were. Charles, at 74, has had a lifetime of involvement in various causes, so we have more of an idea, but as King he can't/shouldn't bring those into the role and must be apolitical. So it is similar. The RF have done so much to support charities, young people setting up in business, building international relations to facilitate trade, etc. Charles has personally donated millions and provided produce from his estates and fridges, etc to food banks, amongst other things. He's not alone in that, within the family. They're not perfect, no family is. But a lot of people would be worse off without their input.

People where I live earn at most £1,500 a month and the cheapest rents are £900 per month and that is for a two bed where those with children have siblings of both sexes sharing one bedroom. In fact the local councillor told one family they could put the oldest son in the kitchen. There was no room for wardrobes and each child had a box on their bed with their clothes in. I am just an ordinary member of the public yet it was I that helped that family. I found a 3 bed house for them from a friend at £500 per month and gave them half my furniture so they had beds, settee and wardrobes.

Actually, I think he probably has a point. Young people have been encouraged to believe that the existing historical institutions in virtually all western countries are inherently bad and need ot be changed or done away with.

When I was younger I wasn't a fan of the royal family as I got older I came to respect the Royal Family and understand that they give continuity to the country instead of being in constant flux, as are countries with elected heads of state. Piers Morgan disrespected the monarchy and in the past had no problem with his mates breaking the law by spying on members of the royal family. So what is different now, did they threaten him and making him do a deal where he gets off the hook so long as he now does their bidding?
A debate would involve two sides actually getting their points across to one another which Piers didn’t allow Alex to do at all. Piers still lost but somehow managed to lose despite (or maybe because) he barely allowed Alex to complete a sentence.
Piers Morgan is the only person who can speak a sentence while simultaneously gobbling King Chuck's balls. I normally would have said Prince Andrew, but that's not realistic, since Piers is over 18 and it would be consensual.
When you remove the royals, politicians immediately become royal.

@@mazzid9973 absolutely, I'm Swedish, and I'd rather keep our monarchy, and Norwegians and Danes wish to keep theirs. Finland and Sweden used to be one country for 600 years, and since Finland parted ways with us, they miss few things, but a lot of them love the Royals, and especially the Crown Princess Victoria and her family. They have a president that nobody ever takes notice of.

The Danish Princess Mary is originally Australian, she met Prince Frederick in a bar in Tasmania, they dated secretly for a year or so, she began to learn to speak Danish. We watched their wedding on TV all those years ago, now I think their oldest child is 17 yrs and then they have twins around 11 and another younger one, she will one day be Queen when Fredrick is crowned King 🤴I hope they'll show that on TV too if I live long enough. 😉 👍❤️😊🌹🦘🇦🇺

When Piers asked whether Alex would either want a Boris or Liz as opposed to a King/Queen I laughed because his question presupposes that Kings/Queens can't be bad people/leaders. Atleast with someone like a prime minister or president, he/she is democratically elected.
Yeah and Like I would prefer having Boris at the head than little Prince George or Prince Harry or Prince Andrew anyday. George is a kid while Harry acts like one. Andrew had some friends who slept with kids.
All of these people are in the line of succession and we can't get rid of them peacefully like we did with an elected head of state.

Not once was a single tangible example given of the “Hard work” that they allegedly do. Just buzzwords. Piers brushed the question to his meathead friend, who proceeded to stumble over his words, say nothing, and immediately change the subject.
Check into what they do. They have very productive charities that spend hundreds of millions of pounds every year for youth and actually really good programs. Regardless of what you've assumed about them you should have a look for yourself. Cheers

The lad is an extremely intelligent young philosopher with his own youtube channel called the cosmicskeptic. On it he engages in intelligent long-form debate where both sides get to speak fully. When he interviews people he lets them speak but also challenges them on precisely what they say (rather than interrupting to give his opinion). Piers could learn an awful lot from him. I watched a 90 mins interview between him and Douglas Murray yesterday, which was the most respectfully probing examination of Murray's beliefs I've ever seen.

Britain has had, for YEARS, an elected 'Head of State''. Much like here in Thailand, the King's (and in Britain, the Queen's) role was largely ceremonial. Yes, they carried huge influence, but in DIRECT political power, not so much.
The Queen was an excellent impartial adviser to our various Prime Ministers, using her great experience across so many years. No political role. The Government ultimately makes policies, etc, with the elected Prime Minister and MP's making decisions, and I'm sure there have been various policies over the years, that she felt uncomfortable with, but still had to read out at the Opening of Parliament and "sign off". We never knew what her political views were. Charles, at 74, has had a lifetime of involvement in various causes, so we have more of an idea, but as King he can't/shouldn't bring those into the role and must be apolitical. So it is similar.
The RF have done so much to support charities, young people setting up in business, building international relations to facilitate trade, etc. Charles has personally donated millions and provided produce from his estates and fridges, etc to food banks, amongst other things. He's not alone in that, within the family. They're not perfect, no family is. But a lot of people would be worse off without their input.

am British in my 40s. Our Queen is gone. I think the monarchy should be abolished. I also agree on an elected head of state.
