    This is why properly adjusting the trailer brake unit in the cab at the start of every trip so that the trailer is braking its own weight is vitally important!

    You guys sure do earn your paychecks...folks rarely give more than a passing glance at the tow trucks, UNLESS they need traffic to stop or detour, then it seems like all the notice given is by angry folks for being delayed. They dont realize the dangers you face on every call you respond to. Thanks to all of you who do this very important job. God bless you all and Stay safe.

    Look at how they mounted the fifth wheel to the truck bed , it broke lose very easily and the left rim on the rear axle was not strong enough for what the truck was pulling. Many factors envolved but my good guess is. Wind pushed it left he turned slight right to stay in the lane. The brackets to hold the fifth wheels broke and the rim snapped an caused the truck to roll under.

He has learned the business, drives professionally and does his job well. • @JVerschueren
      @JVerschueren 5 років тому +7

      It wasn't a lifted truck, the left rear rim failed in the rollover and the rear suspension broke loose from the chassis, hence it was all keeled over on the moving bed truck.
      However, I will say, as other commenters have done as well, the 5th wheel setup seemed sort of "light" for the type of trailer he was hauling to me. I mean, if the trailer doesn't go over with the towing vehicle, something is underdimentioned.

    If you look at the way the driveshaft beat up the fuel tank & exhaust, it looks like whomever installed the lift kit didn't put a longer driveshaft or spacers in. Once the brakes got stabbed with all that weight behind it, the driveshaft pulled out of the back of the transfer case and pogo-ed the truck. The way the fifth wheel rails were mounted sure didn't help anything either. This truck was just a big ball of trouble waiting to pop!

    • @rvninnorthcarolina3377

    • @acdii
      @acdii 6 років тому +11

      Look again, the rear axle broke loose from the springs when the right rear wheel failed. The owner had fancy non load bearing wheels on the truck. They can't handle the stresses of towing, especially with the truck being far over its RAWR. Wild guess is that truck was at least 1200 or more over the rear axle rating. At a minimum, without knowing the model number, the truck was 1200 over its payload.

    My guess to what happened would be the aftermarket wheel failed while making a right turn causing the truck to dig into the ground and flip it over as the trailer keep going. It does not look like they were going fast when it happened because it does not look like the truck got pushed that far at all. No matter what happened you should never tow something that big with that small of a truck and lifted with aftermarket wheels at that. Those wheels are not made to handle that much weight pushing down on them. Sad thing is because the truck was so overloaded and was modified incorrectly for towing the insurance will most likely not cover it leaving him with the bill and payments for the next 6+ years on the truck. I dont understand why so many people try to get a trailer way larger then they can handle

      Should be at least a one ton towing that trailer as you said seen too many half ton towing huge 5th wheel campers with P rated tires need at least 10 ply tires to handle it. Could also be improper settings on trailer brakes causing it to push

    • @joapps8135
      @joapps8135 5 років тому +4

      Christopher Campbell If I pull a large fifth wheel with an F450 dually that has a 4" lift and E load 10 ply offroad tires BUT the tires have thinner side walls, still risky? I know that deep, knobby treads will allow for some sway (and increased wear and tear on the tires). A "towing expert" said that the lift doesnt matter as much as the sidewall and tire tread (on a dually - need the extra weight and stability of the heavier axel and extra two wheels).

    Let’s see, the lightest Cyclone I could find was 17,000 GVWR, 15,400 Dry; hitch weight of 3,375 lbs. (that’s like 22% of dry weight so we will assume that regardless of how he loads the trailer the hitch weight remains unchanged, just for this exercise.
    Using 2020 F250 Specs here: The highest F250 max GVWR I could find was 9,900 lbs and we will use 6800 lbs for the weight of the truck (it didn’t look optioned out).
    6,800 lbs - F250 Curb Weight
    3,375 lbs - Trailer Hitch Weight
    250 lbs - say 2 persons @ 125 lbs
    175 lbs - 5th wheel hitch, safety chains, DEF
    Estimate is 10,600 lbs - the truck is over weight. Doesn’t matter if the truck has a 5th wheel towing capacity of 50,000 lbs... he would be over weight regardless. But hey, my math and guessing could be wrong.

  • @brianw612
    @brianw612 4 роки тому +3

    F250 payload capacity 4400 pounds max. towing 13000 pounds. Cyclone pin weight 3400 pounds, gross 17000 pounds = not enough truck or too much trailer, let alone the truck mods.

      5th wheel hitches are bolted to brackets to the frame,, It TORE the mounting bolts out of the rear mount plate and sheared the pins on the 4 corner connect points, They are designed to shear in a wreck,,, Ive been towing 5th wheel for 20 plus years,,,,, The hitch DID ITS JOB.

    • @norman_sage2528

    • @mykofreder1682
      @mykofreder1682 6 років тому

      Happened at a light on a local highway where you might reach 60mph. Probably something catastrophic happened during breaking, maybe heavy breaking. You don't know how many miles the trip was till the accident, the owner might have just started out and these are local roads close to where he hooked up the trailer.

      I agree. I saw that the brackets mounting the receiver to the truck bed were relatively undamaged. One was bent, but not 'pretzeled' and had no tears from bolts tearing out. The other bracket was completely undamaged. Look at 5:09 and 5:23. This was clearly a weak link that may have separated when he applied the brakes.

    • @michaelwilkening8542

      IF what you say turns out to be the case, he has a nice big lawsuit there with the company that supposedly "professionally" installed it. IF he is experienced at all with towing any kind of vehicle, he should have checked to be sure it was installed correctly. Also, the people where he bought the 5th wheel should have also checked that when they hooked him up.

      Plus who the fuck is stupid enough to haul an fifth wheel with a F150?!?!
      I personally had a 10k lbs Montana and I still have the old truck, 2003 Silverado 2500HD 6.6 Turbo Diesel. I wouldnt haul anything over 2k with a light duty truck such as an F150 or 1500.

  • @KungPowEnterFist
    @KungPowEnterFist 6 років тому +1

    I think the lightest model of that 5th wheel is 14860 lbs dry. I dont see a Power Stroke badge on that F250. Assuming 6.2L gas 4.30 gears, CC, standard bed 4x4, the published 5th wheel tow limit for that truck is 15k lbs. Granted, this truck looks like it has many mods, including suspension, wheels and tires. Its modified limit was probably 4-5k less lbs, but good luck proving that. This probably wasnt the cause of the accident at any rate. It looks like he braked and the rear bracket of the 5th wheel hitch ripped up and off the truck bed/frame. Most likely improper installation/hardware.
    Failed or poorly dialed in 5th wheel brakes may have quickened that failure.
