Even a bass player like me understood this lol Brilliant explanation, brilliant execution. Never thought of tritone resolutions outside of the 3rd and b7 of dominants. You just won yet another subscriber!
Your sound and touch on the guitar are outstanding! Thanks for another wonderful lesson. For me, this "mini lesson" is something that will require days of effort to truly wrap my head around. 🙂
5:10 the beginning sounds like the beginning of the water level music of super Mario hahaha great lesson as always, thank you for sharing your knowledge
Been following you for some time, some of the best jazz guitar educational content on YT definitely. I did a search on streaming apps and on your website, but didn't find anything - do you have any albums out where you play or bands that you're part of? Would love to listen to your playing outside of this educational context.
7:00 now you're noodling like Ted Greene! (Baroque sounding harmonic development/resolutions). Great to see you picking up stuff from Bireli. I bet you'd like Scotty Anderson's stuff too. All the best. Thanks for your vids.
Thanks Paul! Ted Greene is certainly a hero of mine, so I'll be happy if I can play something that even remotely resembles what that master can do! Thanks again for the lovely comment and for your generosity towards the channel.
i understand what you’re doing. i just can’t do what you’re doing. 🤨contrary motion fries my brain every time chris parks teaches it in barry harris school. astonishingly great playing and great teaching brother. 🙏
Awesome video!! And what a great tone you have! Are you using an outboard equipment like Quad Cortex or Helix? or Some plugin? Thank you for the high quality videos man!!
i know the thing about artificial harmonics and stuff, but i'm troubled about how you get to do that 7 13 chord in artificial harmonics just by sweeping the end up of the frets with your index..
I love your videos. You're playing and musical knowledge is outstanding. I would like to know if you are interested in indian ragas and their integration into jazz, too? Regards from Germany!
I must know, did you end that bit of (gorgeous) improv at the end of the video anticipating that it would resolve perfectly into your outro theme tune?? Cause that was just beautiful
Haha! Well spotted! Definitely wasn't planned, but that's the reason for the big pause at the end after I played the 'G6/9 - Ab△9 - Am11 - Bb13' chords. I realised in that moment that it might actually voice lead nicely into the theme tune. I just couldn't decide on what to do quick enough (hence the pause!). Thanks for watching, I love that these little details get picked up!
All ways lead to settle for bireli lagrene and sylvain luc eventually. For me it means one have reached a certain level of maturity in jazz guitar playing.
Forget the Rick Beato signature Gibson , I want a signature Robby Barnby es 345 😂. I love that guitar ❤❤❤
I saw it first haha
Have you come across him ever saying what pickups he has on there?
@@maniphaces I believe they're the stock ones
@@maniphaces more info on his website about his gear.
@@TheCompleteGuitarist yeah thanks, he responded to one of my post. its the OG pickups
The playing, tones, the guitar, aesthetically hypnotic wow
This is great to see. Counterpoint motion between melody and bass is such juicy ear candy. Love your stuff man.
Best guitar teacher online, love this UA-cam channel.
I need more counterpoint in my blues and jazz for sure. Great lesson, as always, Robbie.
Damn...what a lesson, so much to unpack here...Robbie is truly badass :)

Wonderful break down and playing!
Great lesson, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Ahhhhh man this passage between 7’ and 7’40 sounded so great.
Brilliant Robbie‼️👌
Thank you!
Beautiful touch and tone. Exquisite expression. Thank you Robbie 🙏
Always GOLD!
Birelli has very electric modern jazz guitar albums early in his career which I used to listen to. He's a master.
Simply brilliant! You did it again! I'm jealous!
I got to know about Bireli some years ago through hotclub and his phrasing has always sounded amazing.
That was fantastic!
Amazing... you make the complicated seem so easy
Amazingly concise and beautiful !
You have such a great touch, and so many intelligent choices in your playing. I really look forward to your new vids. Masterfully done and explained.
Thanks Jimmy!
Great tone as usually Robbie
Thank you!

Really well explained - thank you Robbie.
Good to see you back, totally awesome as usual, well Isn't she a lovely mad jazz freak. 😊 We need more jazz modal chord scales.
Excellent video as always dude, keep it up!

Magnificent playing and tone !! How do you get such long lasting sustain on the bass notes from an arch top?
This tone is so rich it feels like haptics on my iPad at low volume
