Thank you so much for listing the names of the nonet members - orchestral musicians are unsung heroes. Thanks to Ms Baeva for a nice performance. (AND, the arrangement is really good. I take my piano sonatas and arrange them for chamber orchestra just for fun.)

I think with a good high school string orchestra, this could be played really beautifully. Not saying this performance was anything short of incredible.

Alena is a great violinist!, and surely for such huge piece of music by Mendelssohn, she deserves the chance of performing with a full orchestra and a Director! - similar to Hilary Hahn. Until this takes place, the current interpretation might be taken as practice.
Chill. It is an arrangement. Baeva has played this with full orchestra dozens of times.

brilliant idea to make this arrangement for strings - and a great performance.
But: I hate the digital sound processing „enhancement“! Poor musicians, they are robbed of making their own sound..
Alena played beautifully. But the music was ruined by this String-Octete like arrangement. Mendelsohn will flip over.
Nonsense. Quality music can be arranged for almost any combination and if arranged well, can be perfectly good, as this excellent arrangement is. Many composers in Mendelsohn's time were very used to reduced arrangements of their works as they were practical people with a realistic understanding of available resources.
Anyway, it’s not an octet! There are nine!
