  • DO NOT FARM - Why? I'll explain.
    This week I saw a lot of videos about farming and easy ways to get unlimited shards and things like that.
    I'm telling you why you shouldn't, you can take my advice or leave it. But don't say you thought the game was too easy when you finish the game.

      Played my first run game on Ultra Hard Mode. Farming is required. Everything is crazy priced on Ultra Hard Mode while the machines hit for major damage and several have 1 hit kill attacks. Usually tail attacks from thunderjaw and stalkers and the slam attack of rock breakers.

      Story expansion is already confirmed . Yeah we need Higher Level Cap ,Super Bosses, more Corrupted Zones ( with 3 Thunderjaws at ones for example) 2-3 Banditcamps ( with hardcore Difficult level 50 etc ) just much more Endgame Stuff. The highest Bandit Camp Level 30 is way too low Level 34 corrupted Zone too

    Played through the game without farming and I was too OP by the end of it.
    A game is definitely too easy if in 50 hours play you die more from falling off things than you do by getting wrecked by a 50 foot tall metal Tyranosaur.

    To be honest I even started on VERY HARD and never farmed. I just minimized my fast travel and did the sidequests. By the time I was at the last mission I was pretty much level 50.
    The best aspect of this game is the EXPLORATION part. I agree with this guy. Don't spend too much time on the same spot killing the same robot a dozen of times for experience and loot. Its better to explore and discover the world.
    Trust me the story and data text points you discover is really interesting.
    Happy exploring

    • @Julioti
      @Julioti  7 років тому +1

      You can't be more right, that's exactly what I think the developers wanted us to do, explore and progress that way.
      Not exploiting because that's what it is essentially. I also was level 50 a bit before the end, which in my opinion wasn't even that special. Thanks for sharing your opinion!

  • @THANE_MITHRA
    @THANE_MITHRA 7 років тому +73

    i see too many people commenting negatively on this opinion. I unlocked all achievements for this game. When i started i picked up everything i could see killed anything and everything on hard maxed my pouches by 19/20 .. did not bother doing the main quest line did some side missions , tutorials, cauldrons and hunters lodge challenges . BY the time i went to meridian i was rich and op. He makes a good point . After meridian it took me short while of side questing to hit 50. I ran all over the map and picked up everything.When finishing the main storyline i saw how much unless xp i got and laughed half the time as i was modded up and maxed out. This is not a grindy rpg like never-winter or black desert online. His point is valid that questing gets you value and most importantly your time is yours if you want to spend it grinding ..... just do not complain for choices made as the game is structured well to support questing vs grinding .SUBBED

    I understand what you say about Farming. BUT not all players are equal. I am 72 years old. I came into this whole thing late. I was born into it as many of you are. In other words: I am a poor player. I cannot ever complete some of the hardest challenges in the game if I don't discover some advantage to do so. Therefore I don't consider it a cheat because most people are much better players than I. I do it because for me it is necessary. Thank you for your information.

      Julioti I may have followed the videos in my recommendations and tried the thunderjaw farm a few times to see if it worked, but after the 3rd kill or so I said to myself once I unlock the tinker skill this will have been pointless.
      I played the game probably differently from most, I did every single side mission as soon as I got them, hunted every cauldron as soon as a quest took me close to them on the map, and did the hunting challenges for the lodge weapons as soon as i got the final power cell. Playing this way made me level 50 well before the final missions and even had all skills unlocked before reaching 50. By time I beat the game I unlocked at least 5 skill points I couldn't do anything with.

    • @Chr15Payne

      TL:DR..
      farming xp and mods are totally unnecessary. If you're enjoying the game, just play it as you normally would. Chase an item if you like but everything else you need will come right to you over the normal course of the game.

    I started the game already at Ultra Hard and farmed just enough to have the sockets I'd be using for the rest of my weapons.
    Actually, I enjoyed how they made everything cost at least 10x more than the actual price in scraps, just like I enjoyed how everything two-shot you easily, even with good armor or sockets. It's like, you've got to use your big weapons to take down any foe before they take you down eventually, but using too many good ammo or resourses can quickly drain your scraps and leave you without means to buy better weapons during the game (or even a useful weapon at all).
    The challenge goes from the beginning till the end, without being frustrating most of the time. It still require some nerves of steel, but you'll get the hang, eventually.

    in my opinion farming is a must for ultra hard. specially if you are a perfectionist like myself where every piece of gear is a must in at least 1 set up with 2 for weapons. each adept gear is 8k a piece i think and so are the weapons. lets not forget the damn machine parts that rarely drop in ultra hard. yes i could of have overpowered in easy difficulty but first play thru was to do collectibles and missions as to avoid ruining ultra hard. now harvesting 1 heart out of either a thunder jaw or a storm bird takes at least 10-15 kills and do they take some time lol

    I was max lv way before I finished the game. Completed all Bandit camps, Quests, Hunter lodges, Corruption zones, got all Overdrives, etc. Only used the shield weaver armor on the very last mission against Hades Deathbringer.
    So I agree, farming in Horizon will make it incredibly easy. However, farming/grinding has become a habit for a lot of us.

  • @frodobaggins6277

    Whenever I finish the game and want to start over, I like a fresh new start. I sell almost everything I have, except for hunting trial weapons (because they're annoying to try and win again), almost all of my resources and potions except for 1 of each maybe, and certain coils and weaves that are HARD to aquire. Like Frozen wild ones.
    And I get rid of most of my suits except for 1 or 2 silent ones. I've only kept my ancient armor a couple times. I don't even use it that much.
    And right before a start a new game I always like to have the original Outcast outfit on with one of the basic bows and no blaze or fire arrows or meat so that I'll have to find all of those again.

    Like you said its your personnal OPINION. But it can be applyed to all video games .Farming/cheating and even coop (Dark souls) can make the game easyer and ruin your experience. People doing that are the same people saying that games are too short and to easy. They will learn that it gets boring fast doing so. I farm so I don't have to worry about expending too much ammo, potions, etc. If it weren't for farming, I and many others would be much more conservative with our resources and as such would probably never expend it. I do see your point about farming making the game less fun, but farming gives players a safety net in terms of resources and let's them use whatever we want with peace of mind, which also factors into how fun the game is.

  • @CNcyanide18

    I played the whole game using the Nora Brave outfit. It looks way better in cut scenes, and I also agree that the Ancient Armor is way OP and its a good thing you can only obtain it late in the game. Only used it while battling the corrupted behemoths and rock breakers.

  • @PeterKaitlyn
    @PeterKaitlyn 5 років тому

    Part of this game is about working for and getting the various weapons & mods for those weapons... Farming makes that possible. There are even places in the game that are setup so you can easily farm all the shards you want. At the west end of the Nora lands there is a spot with 4 Scrappers and 2 Scrapper piles that will give you purple mods early in the game. In the far north there is a Behemoth site with 2 Behemoths and 2 Long Legs that will give your the best mods in the game. I don't know why you think that farming is undesirable, but most players want the various mods and weapons... all that takes shards and getting them easily means farming.
    So if you want to play through without farming then do so, but don't say that farming shards and mods is a wrong way of playing. The game developers themselves setup farming as part of the game. My spear has two 30 point damage mods on it. Most of my weapons have 65 handling. You can't get those mods unless you farm, or unless you are very lucky.
    So don't farm if you don't want to but farming isn't in itself a bad way of playing. It's a common attribute of most games that have a graduated reward system. It doesn't make the game easier. Farming takes patients and ability.
    The great thing about HZD is that the structure of how the machines fight, where the are generated, the difference in their components is varied & interesting... so that farming is still exciting and demanding even when you have done a lot of it.
    Great Game.

Sure, there are hard parts - GOOD - otherwise it would be a cakewalk and none of us want that, but none are terrible and the feeling of accomplishment is way better if you just use what the game gives.

    I'm 50/50 on this. Well if I work my butt off to level up so I can get better upgrades, and not get my butt handed to me all the time, I actually didn't fight same spot over and over though. I actually went to all side quests, killed everything, only grinded certain spots a few times. Technically, yes it is an exploit as example I'm level 30 but the mission I'm on recommends me to be level 15! I'm eating everything alive! Yet, the developers allow this common practice. Without grinding also we couldn't make enough money for these awesome weapons! It would take just as long to get the weapons, just way later in the game. Im a completionist and didn't start playing like this til I got the assassin's Creed games. Wanted to own everything and be powerful. I get where you are coming from bro! I understand your point. You aren't pushing anything on anybody, appreciate the opinion!

      Julioti Thanks! This game is awesome, and I happened to come across your video. I agree with you! I understand completely where you are coming from. I read some comments and it's kinda funny that some took it a different way. Definitely would make this game fair and probably more of a challenge. I don't come across videos like this and it actually reminded me of how I used to play games. I used to not play like I do today. Some games in recent years seems to have gotten harder and I got used to grinding to help make it easier. Example, Fallout 3 and 4, Dark souls trilogy, Bloodborne, many others. I rarely play games like I used to and got very rusty, my edge was to exploit to make myself tougher. Like the videos! Appreciate the response!

    It didn't even occur to me to farm anything. With all the junk and duplicate mods you always have to sell, you get a healthy stock of shards pretty quickly.The only thing I needed to keep an eye on was the resources required to keep my ammunition well-stocked, plus any crafting ingredients I required .

    I played this game recently and I’m proud to say that I didn’t farm. I didn’t know that this is possible. I just do all quests from main up to tutorials. I was level 36 when I tried the DLC pack. The DLC missions are hard when I tried it while using only carja mighty bow, shadow carja sharpshot bow, tripcaster, ropecaster, and tearblaster (During this time I haven’t completed the hunting grounds to have the lodge weapons). It’s freaking hard so I did the hunting grounds trials so that I can manage to beat the monsters in the DLC pack and I managed to get through and man it was a lot of fun. I’m currently level 52 and I just got the master override and the ancient armor because I did all of the quests before doing the main ones including the DLC pack missions. As of now I’m on the road to finish the game without buying the Banuk weapons in the DLC pack to see how I manage to get through these missions.

    Oh for sure on your first play-through, no need to grind. But if you're doing an Ultra-Hard NG+, it's very demanding on your resource stockpiles. A single demonic fireclaw takes hundreds of arrows to take down, you're constantly running low on wire for ropecaster ammo, prescision arrows, and tripwires.

    Totally agree with this. I personally think unless you're playing on the hardest difficulty, modifications can be ignored if you don't want to sort through them, and you'll be fine. Also I think the developers did a pretty good job where if I fight a thunderjaw at level 20, then again at level 40, he's still going to be a tough enemy. Like levelling up and mods don't make you able to 3 shot a thunderjaw, which I really like. The game is a challenge no matter your level (excluding the Shield Weaver outfit, that kind of breaks the game) but the developers created a pace to the game to allow you progress as the game progresses. May as well stick to the pace

    Sadly it is not just farming in the sense of looking for the best mods that leads to this problem. I've been playing on hard so far and I just did everything that I came across on my way (barely fast traveling) and I was already level 50 before I've even finished the Merdian story line. The main problem for me was that fighting machines brings a lot of exp but it is also so much fun to do (at least for me). Once I'm finished, I'll probably replay on very hard, hoping that the game will be more challenging.

    Easy way to improve your game experience with frozen wilds. After completing mainstory to the moment you can get mount, screw everything and travel to frozen wilds area, get blueglem map then farm those like crazy and get your Banuk Striker Bow place your damage, handling, fire mods in and enjoy your lvl 7 experience with thunder jaws. And if this is not enough and you still for some reason do have problems with the game, get some balls and stay in banuk area. Weakest machines there do provide behamoth ammount of experience, so you can get lvl 60 really fast. Thank you, I hope i made this game even more interesting.

    What about farming Grazers for Blaze? I always go through Blaze rather quickly and Grazers are an easy way to get it. Also, what about getting a Stormbird heart? The drop rate for them is really low.

  • @peterelfman
    @peterelfman 7 років тому

    I agree, farming isn't necessary. I tend to use a lot of the explosives and incendiary weapons, so I need a lot of Blaze, but honestly between the unending number of random encounters there are while traveling just between campsites, and buying what I need from merchants - once you become a Seeker and reach Meridian for the first time, you basically have an abundant amount of Shards for the rest of the game - I really don't have to go out of my way to fill on up on Blaze via farming methods.
    Remember, folks, you don't have to kill everything yourself. Between the corruption arrows, and converting robots to your side, you can often get the robots to kill each other, which is less resource intensive on your stock and yields rare drops at only a slightly lower percentage. If you want to bring that percentage up, just finish off your target with a regular arrow, the least expensive weapon to replenish.

    Julioti I agree but the shield Weaver has been nerfed, and it is crazy to play on very hard with it. I mean just killing a thunder jaw was far more challenging than before when I played on normal. To me, i think it is impossible to kill 2 thunder jaws on the same site without shield Weaver on very hard because one tail hit and you're dead. The games won't be fun if you die every 1-2 minutes. There is also a disadvantage with farming; eventually, you run out of materials to craft the arrows, or you run out of blase for bombs. So you could only farm for that long before spending almost half the shard you just collected on wood, string and blase (my English sucks so half of what I am writing doesn't make sense so if you are reading this please just try to make sense of what I am saying)

    I've gotten to where I don't like too much easy-ness on HZD because of how many times I have played it, so I farm as much as I can and then when I get to the end, before I restart it, I sell or drop A BUNCH of my items except for the very important ones- like the Frozen wild coil and weave combos. And I put myself in my outcast suit so that the game restarts looking normal.
    One time I even dropped the Ancient Armor but I didn't like that cause I was going from very hard to ultra. And I NEVER drop or sell my Lodge/hunting ground weapons cause those are annoying to get back.
    I also don't drop the original bow that the game starts with.
    But I drop the forgefire and other Frozen Wilds weapons because they're so easy to aquire.

    That's exactly what I thought, hence why I stumbled upon your video, I was searching for shard farm but no exp increase, but seems no one like this idea.
    I just realized I am getting some exp I don't want to in search for shards because I am on ultra hard, and just a armor is around 4k.
    My most logic choice was taming machines and let them kill the enemy and just loot what it kills, besides farming flowers, creating potions and selling the potions (since selling the flowers yields half profit)
    Any better ideas?

    Thanks for your opinion and this video. I agree that it can make you OP really early on. I'm level 42 and about to do the final quest to get the last Power Cell for the Ancient Armor. I haven't done most of the side quests because yes I saw videos on youtube explaining how to get this armor. The thing they didn't tell you was that it's a part of the close to last missions so you don't get it early on. I'm still going for it while leaving almost half of the map undiscovered. I'm honestly looking forward to the armor because I'm having fun with the game right now. I'm definately going to have fun after I get the armor.
    I see your point though, but some people just play to have fun with the game. I also like walking around a lot and there's some enemies I can take on no problem but some that I still stealth through because even though I've beaten them before I'm not up for the fight right now, like the Rockbreakers. With the armor I'll be able to look down on them while they squirm.

    you basically don't need to farm because if you follow only the main quest line you'll end having the main mods.

    Yea - I didn't have to farm, just went through the storyline. I received the invincible armor with about 2 main quests left and if it weren't for that I wouldn't have made it through the last fight for hours probably. Now I'm level 50 - have all the skills maxed out, around 12,000 shards and waiting on a DLC.
    My advice - just play the game and run the side missions as you come to each town. Don't purchase any weapons until you can afford purples.
    Also - I went the entire game (until the end) using the purple stealth armor which was my first purchase.

    I dint farm, I went out hunting if Needed something by walking from place to place rather than fast travel and I had what I needed sometimes I was low on everything so I walked around more, hunting more until I had enough herbs, skins, machine parts mods etc. Your right the game gives you more than you need and I agree I would not have liked to have had that armour too early. In fact I think I might have preferred not to have had it for the final boss fight as it was almost a little simple with it. I played the game in full inc dlc and racked up about 275 hours and not one felt like filler. I got right up to level 60 but that was becasue I was playing a long time and 'slogging' through it rather than fast travel everywhere. It was so fun that way and it has been my fav game ever so far. The best are pristine weapon coils gotten from the frozen wilds. There is only one per playthrough so you need multiple new game+ runs. I enjoy the game and have tried speedruning so i do have a banuk powershot and striker bow with max pristine weapon coils. Of course the bows are adept and i also have a champion bow and a blast sling. I sometimes swap the blast sling for a ropecaster.

  • @pistachiosan
    @pistachiosan 7 років тому

    But the game encourages farming with the way it's balanced. You're going to need mods to avoid dying and to conserve resources. The way the system is set up with your money being your ammo, you can find yourself completely out of shards after taking out a boss. The only way to get them back is to farm low level machines you can kill with your spear. Later levels with more powerful machines require more shards to kill them and better mods to bring the shard cost down. The best way to get these shards and mods is to farm bigger and bigger machines.
    Plus that example you showed isn't exactly fair, because if you take the shield weaver armor off, and replace it with anything else, machines will have no trouble ending you if you get even slightly distracted.

      'But the game encourages farming with the way it's balanced. You're going to need mods to avoid dying and to conserve resources.' No, it does not and it wasn't made like that.
      I don't know if you are talking about killing machines you come across or purposefully fast travelling to a site... as I said in the video though.
      Because there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with killing machines on the way, in fact you need to do that especially in the beginning.
      And if you want shards and mods, do (side)missions, errands, bandit camps or any of the remaining. That's WAY more fun. (in my opinion anyway)

    Well said, I don’t farm at all and I’m enjoying this game so much. It is a well balanced game that matches the difficulty of the main quests with your abilities as the story progresses. IMO the game is more enjoyable if you are not invincible and have to fight for victory, or sneak past machines that are very powerful. Thanks for this video, it’s good to know that at least some players play the game in the spirit it was meant to be played in.

    very good point with side quests and errands and tutorials etc youll easily gain enough xp and mods etc i did light farming half way through and found i threw off the games designed progression. the designers really did a great job setting this game up to just play and gave fun not have to grind.

    My second playthrough I ended up grinding and didn't have as much fun as progressing organically. Ultra Hard on NG+ is a breath of fresh air.
