Making a judgement about an entire country based on her experience in one city. Sounds fair 🙄
Many things she brings up are not facts. As others have said ,hand held shower heads are available in the US. It's 3,000 miles from East coast to west coast and thousands of cities in-between. Many places in the US have very low crime rate

After 5 years she obviously does not understand the US. I live in lower mid-michigan, here's my take.
      1) Fixed shower heads are less expensive and easier to maintain. I have a detachable and have had to replace the hose, not great for rentals or hotels.
      2) Mozzarella cheese is available in many different textures including rubber, try a different store. The rubbery kind works great for a stringy cheesey pizza.
      3) My phone comes with a texting app that works just fine. I don't live through texting so why waste memory on a separate app. It's a choice.
      4) I might agree on the air conditioning comment, however, it is more comfortable sleeping in a cooler room.
      5) A front-loading washing machine is more efficient but also more expensive to purchase and maintain, I own one. Btw Top loaders clean clothes just fine.
      6) Gun violence and/or crime is all about where you live. At my previous house I didn't lock the doors and people regularly took walks at night. They would also say hello as they were passing me having a cocktail out front and enjoying the night air. It's a big country, you can find what you want.
      7) Banking, well get used to it, cash apps work fine.
      8) Climate-change, yes, climate crisis, maybe not so much. Man-made and to what degree, very debatable. If you earnestly study the subject you would know this. Many lies have been told, the models are consistently wrong and the predictions have not come to pass. Despite what you hear, there are many very intelligent people that refute the "science". If you've paid attention during our latest biological crisis, you'd understand that the experts or majority may not have your interests in mind. PS Many scientists are moving away from evolution because the more we learn, the less it makes sense. It's even kind of ridiculous. Step outside your bubble and know your subject if you're going to make comments about peoples ignorance. Maybe Independent thinking isn't allowed in Germany.
      9) In Michigan we have bottle return and recycling, more or less depending on where you live. We have stores that supply bags and others that require you to bring one. Freedom of choice doesn't always result in the best solution for the environment.
      10) I can easily feed my family for $10, that's way cheaper than fast food but, you have to learn how to cook.
      11) I have 1 and 2 handle Faucet's. Two handle faucets are generally less expensive, more reliable an easier to maintain, great for any commercial application like a rental/apartment or hotel.
      12) In Michigan you can buy beer at most stores and some gas stations. A liquor licence Insures any random fool isn't selling out of the back room. The state does charge a little much for the license though.
It's a very diverse and varied country with the freedom to make choices for your community, she should experience more of it. She kinda sounded a bit condescending, like we aren't up to Germany's level of sophistication. Cincinnati might not be the best representative of the average US neighborhood. I have seen her videos before, seems a bit snooty, not a huge fan.
So that's my rant, I had some time to kill.

Wow. I live in Mississippi (which is often listed as the WORST state in many categories), but we have hand held showers, it’s easy to find great produce, dairy, bread, etc for very reasonable prices (your neighbors will GIVE you more vegetables and eggs than you can eat), and we can easily pay bills and transfer money. At our house we mostly use real plates and silverware and I tend to take reusable bags shopping because they’re sturdier. But, my neighbors are free to eat mostly carry out, use plastic bags, paper plates, etc. That’s called choice. As for not believing in “facts” - we tend to believe everyone has a right to their own opinion and it’s very American to question things and maybe educate yourself instead of just following others. As for the safety thing, we are an “open carry” state and I feel pretty safe almost everywhere. We’ve never had a problem having a drink at the beach, river, on a picnic, etc. Of course, we don’t walk around with it. You simply take it in a cooler, and only get it out once you’re settled. Recycling is recycling. Doesn’t matter how. Maybe give us kudos for not having to be paid to do it. This is the first time I’ve ever disagreed with almost everything said on one of these videos.

The bread and cheese thing is largely due to her being from Bavaria, Germany. The quality of German bread is considered some of the best in the world, and it's widely available. Artisanal breads are everywhere. They don't really do processed bread like we do here. Bavaria is also one of the cheese making capitals of the world, though they also have ready access to French and Italian cheese as well. In other words, it's just her being spoiled on the really good stuff. It is possible to find stuff that good here, but you have to go out of your way to get it. It's available on nearly every corner in Munich.

As far as laundry goes, top loading washers are generally considered the average in my experience. Newer washers tend to be front loaders. It's mostly about water usage. Newer front loaders are more "green" they use less water. A lot of people prefer top loaders even though they use more water because they feel more water can do more clothes in one load and dilute the detergent better. It doesn't help that U.S. detergent bottle measuring caps are very excessive compared to the rest of the world, and they encourage overuse of detergent to increase sales.

I live in Cincinnati and while a fixed showerhead is seen in hotels and older homes as a default option, most people that would want a hose showerhead have them as they are an easy refit and our hardware stores have plenty in stock as that is what most people buy. Even if she is renting in an older part of Cincinnati, she can go down to Home Depot and get a 40.00 refit kit and have it put on in 5 min…
As for group messaging I would say most Americans use Facebook message app but also regular text as most message and data plans are unlimited here on Cell phones also you have generation choices as well. As for the iPhone, just in 2022 got over a 50% market share so we have been mostly Android here in the US until just recently.
Glass bottle deposits went away in the USA in the 1980s, now “some” people recycle or even collect Aluminum cans for money at a metal recycling company for cash. Funny note, the highest spot in the Cincinnati area is actually a landfill now called Mount Rumpke.
As for the food, is she shopping only at Walmart?.... lol I can get fresh mozzarella in about 5 min if I walk out my door… and there are a large number of places to get fresh bread. Variety is always and option here, guess she has never been to the local Jungle Jim’s locations here in Cincinnati where there are thousands of square feet of foods from all over the world..
As for AC we love it… Southern Ohio gets very humid and hot… AC is a must. She also showed an older top loader washer, most do not have the middle post anymore, that said Home Depot and Lowes sell plenty of front loader washing machines too.
As for safety, yeah if you’re in the inner city there are parts of town you need to be careful in at night, overall, the Cincinnati Metro area is really safe and most violent crime is drug related. Cincinnati has a Metro population of about 2.2 million people, as for the inner city this was their stat from 2022. Seventy-eight people were murdered in Cincinnati last year, down from 94 each in 2020 and 2021. Eighty-two percent of victims last year were Black men, and most victims were between age 20 and 49. Keep in mind the crime statistics for Cincinnati are based on the “City” population of 300,000 people, not the surrounding 2.2 million where crime is much rarer. Also 40% of the population lives in Kentucky and that isn’t even included on any of these crime stats. Based on her experiences she must live in the inner city somewhere, definitely not out in the suburbs.
As for facts, well there are a lot of stupid people out there everywhere, that is not a US thing for sure.
As for food, Kroger’s literally has Blueberries and Raspberries, 2 pints for $3.00 as I type, and strawberries are almost always on sale.
Faucets are a mix depending on what people like. There is a mix in my house.
I know Germans love alcohol, one day at work we had a bunch of German colleagues in from out of the country and they brought in cases of beer to work here and were drinking at work… and us Americans were all like wtf?...lol That said Cincinnati was settled by a lot of German immigrants in the past so we have a lot of Breweries here.
That said there are many new “entertainment districts” now in the Cincinnati are where you can carry a drink with you.

Hey! Cincinnati has some awesome areas. The arts and culture scene here is actually just as good as the major cities, like Chicago. But yes, there are some really bad parts of Cincinnati. It's improving though, overall. I used to go to school in Over-the-Rhine, which was considered the most unsafe part of Cincinnati; you wanted to be out of there by nightfall. It's now considered one of the safest, most happening places in Cincinnati. Especially the nightlife. She lived in Clifton, which is an area where there are actually some really nice neighborhoods, as well as some really bad neighborhoods, almost right next to each other. That's sort of her issue. She lived in the nicer areas closer to the university, but they're also right next to the ghetto.

@@fuzzhead76 I agree that one can be ignorant and genuine. Text lacks tone, so to clarify let me say I wasn't patriotic ranting just expressing my opinion that she is making content based off expected stereotypes or just willful ignorance. I base that on conversations with my international friends. She is not speaking to her experience, she's declaring things like "most places showers are like this" then proceeds to redress all of America and tell them why they're not doing it right. The many replies here have indicated that her number 1 complaint that has grieved her for 5 years is easily solved in 5 minutes at the local hardware store. That is what I mean by willful ignorance. To me that makes it not a genuine complaint, just a weak attempt to create content. She's not just conveying what she doesn't like, she's taking it further to berate an opposing opinion that she assigns to Americans rather than just explaining her own preference. I believe Americans are quite frequently called out (rightfully so) for doing this same kind of thing when they visit other countries. I get it's supposed to be light and fun, but it comes off as arrogance. I'm not speaking of all her videos, just this one was a bad in my opinion.
To add to this, I've even given her the benefit of the doubt and checked the article she linked about A/Cs and the podcast. The first paragraph of that article straight up says "Air conditioners do not cause sickness, but they can interact with our environment in ways that make us sick." So again, she makes a broad statement that is false with a hint of truth and running with it as if it is total fact. The article she chose is from a commercial HVAC company that is also providing the maintenance services that prevent said health issues. In the podcast she just goes with anecdotal evidence being scientific proof, so I have even less regard to her talking about science deniers when she's is sort of in the same boat to an extent. Again, not saying she's totally wrong, just that she may be the wrong person to be airing this in the format that she chose.

We have single handle water faucets too, most of the time they are in the showers and kitchen, where our bathroom sinks have the 2 handle faucet. Most showers in my area have the handheld shower heads that attach to the shower head. Granted, they are not provided in new houses or in hotels, but people have the option buying them with their own money if they choose to at the hardware stores and a lot people do. I am not going to get into the gun issue but there's crime everywhere but it has nothing to do with guns, people will just use something else like a car to mow people down or knives. The problem lies into the culture, not into an object, since they do find something else to use. As for bags and straws that depends where too. In CA, it is illegal to give out free plastic bags in certain type of stores (like grocery stores), they have to charge you by per bag. So a lot people have switched over using stronger re-usable bags that they bring with them...yes, you sometimes forget or can't plan out to bring bags, but we are in the mindset to bring our own bags now. For straws, the law is you have to ask for them, but no one (restaurants) follows that over reaching law. They tried to use a picture of a turtle with a straw up it's nose, we were like "Really? How often does that happen?" Also, USA is nowhere near the top when it comes to polluting our oceans with trash...studies have shown by far amount that the real solid waste ocean polluters are the Asian countries. I think what we're taking exception to is the idea that Americans don't know what recycling is, we don't recycle, somehow the Europeans are enlightened in that regard, etc.
All 50 states have some kind of recycling program, ok. Blue and red. Even in the ones that have the tax per bottle, most people don't take it to a machine to do it one by one...most will just put the bottles in the recycle box.
I used to work for Goodwill and one of the things I did was take recycling, and stupidly (from the worker's perspective) it wasn't weighed, it was counted. If someone drove up with a truckload, I literally had to count each bottle. (most companies accomplish this by using a machine....but Goodwill was doing the recycling so they could donation stations at those locations...and they're a charity so they can't afford to buy the bottle counting machines.) I'm so glad I don't work there anymore....but my point is, a very small percentage of people in the suburb came to my trailer to have bottles counted. I would get maybe 10 people a day for that. The vast majority were leaving their bottles in containers to be picked up by the city. Which, there's nothing wrong with that, it's still getting recycled.
A European can't say "oh you guys are terrible for collecting the recycling in a truck instead of taxing the bottles and redeeming it bottle by bottle" huh? It's way faster to just collect it in bulk.
Plus -- and this applies to both Europe and the USA -- for the first several decades, a lot of recycling was sold to China, and China was NOT recycling it. They were just dumping it in their landfill. And it's China and India who dump most of the plastic that ends up in the Pacific Garbage Patch. I would link an article but we can't do that in UA-cam comments anymore. But they did a study and most of the plastic there came from certain rivers, all of which are in either China or India.
Now that China is no longer accepting our "recycling", all the G7 are trying to figure out how to get that stuff actually recycled, here on our own soil. Pepsi, Coke etc. have been helping out in that regard. They would have to participate, it can't be done without their help (since they are the companies that would buy the recycled plastic anyway).
But it's definitely offensive when Europeans make these videos saying we're stupid. Recycling is just one example. They love to make videos about "oh you guys are so stupid for not using HSR"....uh.....low population density? Far distance between population centers? Hello? It's a little different. And they don't dump on Canada or Australia, who also don't use HSR, for the same reasons (low population density, high distance between population centers).
That's what is good about the Beesleys, their videos are a positive voice! A lot of us, even the moderate liberals like myself, are glad to hear people talking about our country and not speaking ill of it for once. 🙂

Even if you did move to a city, you avoid sketchy areas. In my experience, young women like this tend to have absolutely zero situational awareness, and then complain about safety the moment they get spooked the first time. I have seen it firsthand with some of these twenty something girls when I was that age and living in the city. And I was shocked by their obliviousness even then.

She attended the University of Cincinnati, which is based in the Clifton area of Cincinnati. There are some sketchy parts of Clifton, including near the campus. It doesn't matter where you are in this country, your kids will be doing active shooter drills in school, and there will be threats. My kids go safe schools in safe neighborhoods in a safe, small, low-crime city, and have still been locked down on several occasions. And she could have excellent situational awareness and that's exactly why she knows she's not entirely safe.

Before you read further, a disclaimer: Grew up in Silicon Valley, part of the San Francisco Bay Area. Democrat since turning 18 in 1996. Moved a bit to the right during and after my service in the USN on submarines, but am still a liberal. Voted for Bill Clinton in 1996. Voted for Obama both times, voted for Biden in 2020, plan to vote for him again in 2024. Can't stand Trump.
Having said that, have you looked into the actual chances of being involved in a mass shooting. It's quite low. I can't put a link on here (it eats your post if you do), but look for the article title, "Mass Shootings: What are the Odds?"
It says, "In Bivens-Tatum’s analysis, we stand a 0.00000143% chance of getting killed in a mass-shooting incident."
The Time Magzine article, "How Likely Is the Risk of Being Shot in America? It Depends", says "Statistically, the average American has a greater risk of dying from heart disease or cancer than from a firearm, according to the National Safety Council. Car crashes also kill about the same number of people in the U.S. as guns do each year, CDC statistics show. In 2017, firearms killed 39,773 people and traffic deaths killed 38,659; in 2016, firearms killed 38,658 and traffic deaths totaled 38,748."
So, while we hear about it often, and even ONE mass shooting is one too many, the country is geographically vast. Any given individual is in very little danger from mass shootings.
I do support banning semiautomatic rifles, or at least treating them like we do fully automatic rifles (technically not banned but you can't sell a new one to civilians, and there's a lot of red tape to get one of the older ones, making them expensive and out of reach for mass shooters), and if we can't do that, I would support at least raising the age to get one.
Still, don't overblow it. The USA is just as safe as Canada or France.
(and I wouldn't necessarily want to be in Paris right now, due to the protests over moving the retirement age up TWO YEARS! Oh, the horror! See what I did there?)

You can actually drink outdoors in some touristy areas of the country. I haven't had a paycheck in over 20 years, it's direct deposit. I don't write a check to pay any of my bills. I let my teenage boys outside at 11:00pm to walk the neighborhood when that Pokemon Go game was popular, the only thing they ever had to worry about was some dog that got loose. A single or double tap, is really your choice, they can be easily changed out. I like the double tap.

    • @rightlyso8507
      @rightlyso8507 Рік тому +1

More than a few of those "developed" nations now have 'no-go' zones, actually specified by the police there. If you do not look like one of it's inhabitants, and stroll through, you just might find out why it's called a 'no-go' zone. The police themselves do not go into such areas. Sections of Sweden (of all places!), England, France etc have their own 'hostile' areas.

@@rightlyso8507 I'm sorry, but this isn't true at all. I've seen some right-wing pundits say this on and off again over the years, but it's not based in reality at all. There are absolutely no "no-go zones' in Europe. At all. Yes, some people avoid certain neighborhoods in places like Malmo, but that's just personal preference.

@@willsofer3679 Thank you for your input! However, I'm not sorry in telling you that you're, most certainly, not correct in your assertion that there are no "no-go" zones in Europe. I have no idea how just stating a fact would make a person a "right-wing pundit". That's certainly an extraordinarily odd correlation. Anyhow, there are more than a few videographers, here on UA-cam, from Sweden, for instance. I'm not aware of their political orientation, though. They detail their concerns with these areas and how they are basically off-limits to those that do not share the same demographics as these areas' inhabitants. Rotherham, in the UK, is another one of those "no-go" zones. Hopefully, as clear-minded folks vote in governments to finally represent them adequately, this blight in their countries can be cleared up.

I find that when visiting cities in any country there are places you just don't go especially after dark. I lived in Rome for a while and have travelled all over Europe for the past 40 years and there have always been areas in every city that were unsafe. It has definitely gotten worse over the past 5+ years, but it isn't like you could walk anywhere you wanted in any city and not have to be aware of your surroundings.
Some of the things Feli complained about are strange and are not applicable across the US. It may be that in Cincinnati she has experienced some of these things, but in other cities - on the coasts and across the Mid-West - they simply don't hold true. I also find what she says about Germany to be a bit odd. Some of the things she talks about being used to in Germany (specifically Munich in her case) aren't true across Germany.
My conclusion is that making broad generalizations about an entire culture based on a very limited exposure to a specific, localized community is silly. Every country in the world has different regionalized cultures within their borders. The US is about 3.53 million square miles and all of Europe (including the Russian portion of Europe of 1.5 MM Sq Mi) is about 3.75 million square miles - the US is about 221,000 square miles smaller (about the size of France) than all of Europe. The US is populated by people from all across the globe and they have brought their cultures, habits, practices, preferences, etc. with them. Regional differences are significant and even within regions there are pockets of different cultures that are distinctly different than the rest of the area and even the rest of the US. The "American Dream" is what bound this diverse country together for several centuries, but it unfortunately appears to be fading of late.
