- Aamna 101 I Episode 4 | Mahwish Zaidi | The dos and don’ts of hijabwear | Casual & Formal | Sportswear and More
AHI is about women, who - like snakes - are gorgeous, intelligent and hugely misrepresented. AHI is about changing perceptions. It’s about us.
We'll cover fashion as a source of self-expression and body positivity. Interviews with exceptional women who have survived society and its outdated expectations. A little bit of style, a bit of lifestyle and a whole lot of Aamna 101.

As a hijabi I wanna add my part too in the discussion,
Just a little tip:
Wear printed hijab with plain shirts ... And plain hijab with printed shirts ..
Like Mahwish here is wearing plain scarf with a printed shirt.
Find the fabric that suits you ... Like chiffon/Georgette suits me for plain hijabs & for printed I prefer cotton/linen..
For occasions:
Hijab can lift the whole dress ... If I'm wearing simple dress, I always wear a glowy or a bit shimmery hijab ... (Cotton/polyester or Silk may be)
If I'm wearing any embroidered dress I take simple hijab ... (Chiffon/Georgette)
Colour & shade of hijab depends on your dress it's material+ material of hijab
For caps: I only use beige, white & black ... And believe me these colours goes with every hijab ..
Thanks for the Info❤️
She said that in the video
Want to do it but confused how to start
I'm a Hindu woman from India but just loved the whole episode especially Mahwish.I always enjoy her conversation with Amna.
Same
Wow this is so cool. Massive respect for all the women supporting each other irrespective of religion
Same here. A Hindu but loved the way Mahwish presented the hijaab.

Exactly my sentiments too🤗
As a hijabi of many years, I would advice women to not match the color of their outfits to their hijabs. Go a shade or two lighter or darker than your outfit. It brings emphasis to your face. If there is print, pick a dominant color and wear that color hijab.
Also know your skin tone. If you're warm toned, cooler colours don't always suit you. Some lighter colors can wash us out. Look out for those colors.
Also, have a staple gold/champagne and silver hijabs, they go with a lot of formal events. Even if your outfit isn't too festive, a champagne colored hijab will elevate your look and make you party ready.
Very good points! 🙌🏽
Absolutely right
Great tips!
Hi Yusra, I couldn't agreed more about what you said. The skin tone also plays a key role in your final look with the hijab. I have struggled with whites and beige color hijabs since they make me look dull.
Can you suggest what fabric and colors to go for while selecting hijabs for formal events?
I live in Canada and when I started doing the hijab, the best part for me was when I was greeted by fellow muslims in the mall with Assalam o Alaikum sister, who before my hijab wouldn’t know if I was Muslim or not.
I would sometimes be asked if something is halal by strangers because of my hijab.
Once a gora Canadian asked me if an ice cream he was buying for his Syrian neighbour’s had the right ingredients.
She’s a positive soul… I love that she take hijab as her own decision and the way she loved it. I’m also a hijabi and I want to add if someone want to start doing hijab don’t spend too much initially on accessories gradually accessorise it will not put load on your pocket and you get to know better options… try different options
I also started taking hijab 2 months ago but it took me 2 years to take a decision, the reason was that two years back when its was lockdown we were completely locked in our house, during that time I started noticing the behaviour of some extremist muslims around me and on internet, I spent most of the time on internet watching youtube all day and then a time came I just started hating muslims, I thought that this is what islam teaches, but then God made me open the Quran, I only read Arabic Quran before but when I open the Quran with urdu translation I got to know that this is not what our religion teaches and that was only culture not islam, I got more and more closer to Allah because Allah answered me everytime, if I have any Question I just opens the random page in the Quran and my answers are always there, there's even a verse which says:
" Yeh kitab hamne tumhare lie hi toh utari hai "
Cuz I was learning the Quran by myself I read the verse:
"And put your headcoverings over your chest........"
(Surah noor verse 31 )
Then I got to know that hijab is permanent and compulsory in islam just like namaz, but still it took me 2 years to take the decison
After I started taking hijab I was treated and looked up as the odd one, even tho Pakistan is an islamic country but still people will say things about you, people called me hajjan, ustani jee and many more. The women who takes hijab in Pakistan are either those who are married or those who takes hijab from the beginning, but If you start taking hijab in your teenage suddenly, people will stare at you, at first it was hard but now I like my hijab and look pretty without exceeding the limits and maintaining the modesty, I started loving myself.
When I was struggling whether to take the hijab or not even tho I got to know that this is compulsory, I read the verse:
"Allah ki ayaton ka ku inkar karte ho, kia tum be khof hogaye ho?"
I don’t wear a hijab but I absolutely loved the episode and how both of you handled the topic so sensitively … there was respect to religion, personal choice but also telling people it is ok to want to look smart and feel good about yourself . The lack of judgement about peoples personal choice and preferences was so refreshing . Aamna well done for asking all the relevant questions and Mahwish to be so articulate and informative. Thank you so much both xx
Thank you for this. I find it easier to wear Hijab in the UK than in Pakistan. The Pakistan society especially in the bigger cities is very judgemental.
This is so true. I've always worn hijab and im born n bred in UK. whenever we would go pakistan we would stay in the villages but when we went to the city, the pakistani muslims would make remarks. I found it shocking because its a Muslim country. We actually got more respect for it from the non Muslims.
Because it wasn't a norm to wear scarves and hijabs in pakistan. People used to cover with dupatta but didn't properly cover their hair 20 25 years ago. It is increasingly common now, yet in some parts of the society, it is still not encouraged.
@@maryammahmood1207 so true...I live in London and wear hijab to work also...people who put us hijabis down are not non Muslims thet actually are our own Muslim people...🤍💯
So true...lack of education and good guidance l guess...🤍
I m surprised...it is in their genes... They both look much younger than their age... Zabardast... Smart ladies both are
I love the overall presentation of this video. The dialogue is extremely mature ( of course you are two very mature and intelligent women) It is not condescending towards those who do not wear Hijab, yet it is somehow also encouraging to look into wearing Hijab. It also presents an over all positive impact about the whole thing especially for Indians to see because of the ongoing Hijab row. I am an Indian Muslim and my family consists of Hijabis, non Hijabis and even Niqabis and we happily co- exist.
This was such an insightful conversation! I’m not a hijabi, yet watched the video and actually had some really inspirational moments along with those styling tips. Mahwish is a good speaker and her personality really keeps the audience and listeners intact, just talking about how one can carry themselves gracefully is such a rich topic and you both did a great job having a thoughtful conversation on it. Just to add, this video had more of a podcast feel to it but as long as it’s fun talking and listening, it should keep going so keep it up 🙌🏻
Jazakallah khair Aamna and Mahwish. It would be awesome if you can have a plus sized women to do the same segment because I feel it is much easier for skinny ladies to wear/style oversized clothing.
I don’t wear a hijab but this was a wonderful episode. It is true that you owe it to the hijab to make it rock! Thank you ladies
Gosh, I just love mahwish. What a treat, she's so well spoken
Dear Aamna I'm so delighted that you called about hijabis as "open minded" ..and" kuch log aise bhi hain jo bilkul dusri taraf ja chuke hain..!!" You are truly a genuine human being who never let down their traditions 😘😘 I love and respect you even more after listening this ❤️❤️
#Is there any possibility to visit India??
Very interesting show, great conversation between both Amna nd Mahwish
The best part about this 101 was Mahwish's story how she became a hijabi......n Amna's bewilderment at finding out about a hijabi's accassories!!
That's a very good point about religious wear. Actually Islam says that you shouldn't appear before Allah as you wouldn't like to appear in front of people.
Such a beautiful journey ..I appreciate that you are covering this chapter ..Being a hijabin myself, It feels liberating hearing this
Thank you so much for inviting Mahwish!! Love how she talks!!♥️♥️♥️
Salam from kuwait..
What a wonderful episode... really appreciate you coming forward with a video adressing modest style choices ... it absolutely doesnt matter whether u yourself wear a hijab or not..
I started my hijab journey back in 2010 and I am the only one in my family wearing a hijab... as mentioned by Mahwash... we hijabis are much more fashionable and making en effort on our looks... trying to keep it simple modest yet fashionable ....
Luved the whole 101... keep up the good work amna...
I have over 63 hijab and 29 caps... my hijab range from cotton to linen to chiffon to very very expensive silks... all for different occasions...
Now there is a wide range if magnetic pins as well in the market... that saves the hijab from piercing and potential damage...
Really enjoyed this session
Thanxx Amna and Mahwish
May Allah bless u for the efforts...
I absolutely love this episode, it was very informative for me as a hijabi, I got so much inspiration from Mahwish, she is very elegant lady, I use to find very difficult to wear mask with scarf but now problem has been solved ,Thank you so much Aamna for talking on this topic, really appreciate your efforts and your ideas
Wow is the word. I wear hijab and abaya almost all my life. Transistion from chader to hijab to knowing how to to be able to look elegant... but failed. This conversation opened up like a new avenue of self discovery...
Absolutely loved the conversation
Hijab is not only covering u r hair but u r chest also.
Hijab is a used for fashion now.
Better using a decent dress with long dupatta which neatly covers u r body.
Strongly agreed
I get really worried when 95% people normalize taking hijab to cover head only.
Its like a joke with religious teachings n rules.
😔
Alarmed every single time when I see someone doing this practice.
I dont want to discourage such people but please stop saying that its a journey. Its not Start covering ur chests first
@@arshkhalid3770 Exactly. I think covering chest is more important than hair. But then everyone has their own journey. Even I am not a Hijabi. May Allah guide us❤️
@@arshkhalid3770 Exactly. I think covering chest is more important than hair. But then everyone has their own journey. Even I am not a Hijabi. May Allah guide us❤️
A lot of young girls these are forgetting that. They jus wear it like a towel and go out without a dupatta. I think the way mehwish is carrying is fine. Her chest is covered too.
I really enjoyed this episode. I am a hijabi too and I have two things to add to this. Living in America it’s very easy to stand out and look not so classy in a hijab but I think there are two ways to combat this.
Firstly, layers makes hijab look very cool. Long coats or jackets go very nicely with it and gives it a modern look.
Secondly, if there is a lot of print on your shirt or clothes overall it looks a bit too traditional. I have learnt that solids and pastels look very nice with hijab. Just pick one color as your outfit and maybe some hints of a second color and that’s it. It looks very modern and you can’t go wrong with it. Just my two scents. This is my personal style with hijab :)
Very good idea for an episode. Keep it up !
Mahwish is so graceful and she explains everything so nicely MashaAllah 🥰
Loved the episode so perfect and curated towards women who are hijabi and love styling…
MashaAllah!
Very informative and delightful! 👍🏽
Thankyou Amna... really appreciate your efforts... jazakallah khair
I started watching this just for the hack of it but as Mahwish started the conversation, It seemed it was me talking as first & foremost my reason to start taking hijab was exactly the same as hers and me being sporty and all of that ... I just connected and enjoyed this episode to the fullest. Bravo Amna for not coming up with your 2 cents but actually bringing a Hijabi to share the knowledge. Kudos to you & Mahwish Zaidi Rocked
For me hijab is my freedom.. If i feel more comfortable and feel beautiful in it than nones opinion matter..❤️
your cousin is so graceful, also you two have such good friendship Lov you too
A hijabi here! Thankyou for so much insight 🤩
Only 15 minutes into this but mashallah it’s a great episode so far. May Allah swt give us all taufeeq to understand and implement our deen, ameen 💜
Amazing conversation and insights. I am a hijabi from India, i agree to all that Mahwish mentioned about the responsibility a hijabi carries since there is a community that gets represented. I agree that carrying dupatta with a hijab is a bit difficult to style and i am still struggling to figure out a way to do that. Look forward to more such amazing content from you Amna. Great show. Congratulations.
Absolutely loved this conversation, enjoyed it and learned so much! Very much was able to relate, very motivational and positive!! Thank you so much Amna for the sensitivity and the thought behind everything you put forward!
I am hijabi.fortunately my sister lives in Capetown she buys abaya from there. I have many irani , turkey and Pakistani abaya. As a university teacher i wear simple but in dinner/ parties i have little bit fancy. In Karachi Qurtuba market is good place to buy abaya . I design for myself and many tailors in Karachi stitch abayas. Scraf and cap are easily available at melinium mall , Qurtuba and jama cloth market
Asalamalikum aamna. I wanted to add that the biggest accessory a hijabi or for that matter anybody can have is SMILE. It looks very odd when hijab is are not smiling especially here in west bcoz many people assume about us if we are hijabi.
I Really appreciate you for bringing this for us. I loved how a fashionista like you related to our problems.enjoyed the tips from Mehwish. Always enjoyed her on your show.
Yea best episode hai. Annah hariri is one of my favorite designer. I think I have almost all her dresses. Meray favorite boho dresses hain because cotton material me hain. Yea bohat ghalat sooch hai ke aap ne sirf black or white dresses hi wear kerne hain hajj ya umrah per. Modest kapray hone chahiya. Hot weather hota hai Tu better hain lighter colors pehne.
Two beautiful souls radiating positivity ❤️
Hijab is a part of our beautiful religion ISLAM❤️
Please more vlogs on hijab/ dupatta wearing styles even abayas
Elegant abayas especially in Middle East!
Love them
MashaaAllah hats off to you mahwish we are Muslims reading how our Propehts and their families lived!!!!!
And you felt and started hijab which is part of our faith what Allah has told us to!
Good informative vlog. She basically covered what needs to be covered for a Muslim woman-
Covering of the bosom - as per a Quranic ayah for women
Covering of head with a chador - another ayah from Quran
Prohibition of Wearing of see thru clothes from ahadees
Prohibition of tight-body hugging clothes,
And covering up the hips according to authentic ahadees by our prophet pbuh
The the actual purpose of these rules is to show modesty first, and also a projection of Muslim identity which gives a unique identity to Muslim women which sets them apart from non Muslim women. Plus the feeling of security and protection from strange men s eyes.
I started late too but it did change the way I looked n felt - secure n protected.
Lovely episode amna and mahwish
Im a hijabi and overweight as well!! Im so appreciative of people who wear a hijab but use it to express our essence, not just our religion!! Hijab keeps everyone around us within their limits while making the world for us limitless!! Thanks amna…
Btw my 4 yr old always watches haute bites calls u “NamNam!!” And wanted to know where hssn was..
Even tho this video is a little longer and not so inclusive for say people doing hijab wear in Pakistan people doing hijab with duppatas etc butttt still I loved it gave me a new perspective over many cute little hijabi things I do hijab myself and I think I am going to own it more with pride and fun now❤️ Thankyou to you both
Simply loved this!
So so so much enjoyed this fun and informative conversation. As a hijabi I was already doing many things Mahvish mentioned but also learned a lot of new tips. Mahvish has such a charming and beautiful personality. May Allah bless you both. 😊
Love this! Such a beautiful episode
Brilliant episode - Aamna i really appreciate your efforts and your genuine comments on each and every topic you speak about. You always come up with unique and creative ideas. This video on how to style with hijab also bring motivation for people to wear hijaab more confidently and yet look flattery. Mahwish good to see you and wish you a prosperous life ahead. Shine on @Hiss- More power to ladies.
Absolutely loved this episode. Being hijaabi I totally understood whatever Mahwish said. I lovedddd her hijab carrier. Very well done Amna 👏
Great talk.Good Job Aamna & Mahwish
Very informative video , I’m not hijabi but I shared this with some of my friends who may benefited. Bottom line how to be comfortable being ‘yourself’. Thank you both💖
I love Mahvish, I think Amna you and her should conduct a series where you discuss different things, it will be really informative. Thank you for the video, thoroughly enjoyed it :)
Very nice episode and very thoroughly explained . JazakAllah mahwish great job
As a hijabi, I loved this episode! ♥️♥️
Very informative. Thanks and JazakIllah:)
Really nice and informative vdo
Amazing episode! Loved it!!
Really appreciate your efforts Amna... jazakallah khair
Loved the episode :) and What a co incidence.. I also started wearing hijaab in the same month and year as Mahwish and her hijaab style is exactly as mine! I can also say that I feel more comfortable wearing hijab in Australia where I live compared to when I am back home
In Pakistan, which is sad! I loved wearing Sarree Pre hijaab and can never see myself carry it with my hijaab, I guess other hijaabis also feel this way .
Thank You so much ❤️
Love to watch and listen Mahvish and Amna together.
Omg,amna mahwish is great in so many ways,ma shaa Allah a very good effort from u
Masha'Allah thanks alot ❤️❤️Stunning Aamna 💕Amazing Mehwesh 👌👌
love Tabesh n his honesty but there isnt a dot of arrogance or impoliteleness, lovely, fun and informational , well done guys
Lovely conversation and the guest very expressive.
I want this kind of Pakistan. Where both hijabi and non hijabi women can sit together and talk about hijab for those who wear it. Learn to accept each other with or without hijab. Both are carrying our Pakistani culture and tradition so beautifully and one is hijabi.
Thats how all Pakistanis should accept each other and not fight
Maza aa gya🥰
amazinggggg jazakallah for amazing episode
Thank you sooooo much amna for this 101. I just started doing hijab but I just loveeeeee all the episode and it was soooooo useful.❤️ lots of love❤️
Aamna truly their is amazing to watch and thanks a lot to Mahwish for to be a part of it hats off👏👍
Absolutely loved it❤️❤️❤️❤️
Amazing Video…Loved it ❤️❤️
Just loving this episode, feel very related in fashion as hijabi, very need in this criteria, also want brands to make wardrobe for hijabis
I m one of those who have headache by the all covered caps ... so i have improvised it and use Head Bands
OMG What a conversation!! MashAllah you both speak so gently!! I don't wear hijab but enjoyed the episode so much!! Mahwish mashAllah is so beautiful and hijab adds to her beauty!!
I love Anna Hariri too. She is awesome designer for modest wear
It is always a treat to see Mahwish.... Amna you should bring her on your channel more often
Great points loved them!! Mahwash is very good with explaining and has good style❤️ As a hijaabi agreed with a lot. Thank god here in usa there is many online optoons now👍Just a point For comfortable wear jersey hijaabs are really good. In the usa we wear them casually you can just put on with no pins needed and are the most low maintenence - also can dress them up when needed👍👍
This is such an insightful conversation. So much informative as well. Thanks Aamna and Thankyou Mahwish as well. ❤️❤️
My journey of hijab started nearly the same time nearly the same way as that of Mahwish. I felt really happy getting related to her and listening she took time the same way as i did. But the time since i have started taking hijab people around me are getting used to of it and it has become a part of my life and i do style but overall the episode was really engaging and helpful.
Loved this episode. Thank you Aamna & Mahwish. 💖
Loved loved this session, mahwish is very soft spoken like you amna 😄.
When I started travelling , I found mostly Korea and Japanese clothes are very modest and yet so so beautiful. They are so comfortable to wear that till today I don’t wear any skin tight clothes. Don’t feel the need anyway.
I discovered Muji in Japan and Uniqlo as well and since then i only buy my clothes there. You have both shops in Australia. Otherwise online shopping is the go to.
They have really good quality products you won’t be disappointed.
You have given hijabis another level of respect mahwish kudos to you and amna.
Thank you 🙏
MashAllah Mahvish you are so organized with your scarves if I was half as organized., and I totally agree with you that wearing it amongst Pakistanis, or in Pakistan is much harder, you get looked down upon honestly thats how i felt. I also lived in Malaysia where women wear hijab and drive bikes and buses there is no issue, even in the US i worked with my hijab in the corporate world did not have any bad experiences. But i do agree its a physical struggle to wear it i hope people realize it and may Allah give reward to all ladies who try their best to wear hijab the best possible way... and lets keep judgements to ourselves whether you wear hijab or not..
Thankyou so so much 💓 for the inclusion 🥰
Thanks amna and mehwish!
Love it!
Thanks a lot for doing this Amna n Mahwish. I’m a hijabi and follow almost similar style but really enjoyed watching this
My favourite episode ❤️
Amazing love it
Thank you Mahwish, this was so insightful!
Awesome episode. I don't wear Hijab but the chat & information is so great that I shared with my family & friends who wear hijab. Got lot of tips not only fashion but also on human relations. Thank you beautiful & brilliant ladies. May Allah bless you both & team Hiss-Aamna 101 👍😍👌❤️👏👏🤲
Thanks alot for this video!! ❤️❤️ Keep mahwish a constant part of your channel 😉 Also you can highlight some issues women face in this society and discuss under islamic teachings.
Such a beautiful show. Can't thank both of you enough for sharing these precious pieces of information ..
May Allah Ta'ala shower His immense blessings on u both.Ameen 🤲🤲
Was waiting anxiously fr the hijab episode.loved it
Salam, the back and forth between aamna and mahwish is delightful. They have such an air of familial comfort between them. Must do a video on your fav foods.
