Hitting a few hundred balls with it and letting it know I was sorry for neglecting it for so long has led to us becoming fairly decent friends now. Thing is you can do that same thing with a 56 if you know how to play those shots. Dan grieves always says to take a lw out of your bag for a round or two and it will make you learn to be more skillful with other wedges.
Think people rely on the lob wedge way to much, to the detriment of their game, using it means you pretty much have to be spot on with the flight, Rick often uses his when he should be using a bump and run type shots,
My 60 is literally my go to wedge, anything inside of 100 yards 70% of the time is my lob and anything green side is 95% my lob. Depending on how open your face is and your swing speeds you can get a lot of different results out of that one club
I used to play a 60 degree wedge and dont mind this opinion, however once you get to a certain skill level, and have the shots you need with wedges (flops, flighted shots, runners, spinners, etc) then you really only “need” a 56 degree. I have found that i hit my 56 degree aprox 105 yards, but when i start hitting 50,60,70 yard shots for example, i find it is way easier to control and is a much lower flight, with enough spin to do what i need it to do on the green. And if you open up the face with a 56, you can still hit your flop shot (that doesn’t need used as much as most high handicap players think.) I like the take though
The only time I don't use my 60 vokey for 80 yards and in short game shots are under tree punches and 50+ yards bunkers lmao. Love my lob wedge to bits.
Because I do not hit the ball far I got rid of my 2-7 irons. I use my 3 wood or two hybrids for those distances. Driver, 3W, 3 & 4 Hybrid, 8 & 9 iron, PW, LW, SW, Putter. That's my bag. Lighter and less options means less guessing.
I was hoping hed say gap wedge as i dont have one. I have a nice 60 degree that i cant hit anything but 10 yard whiffs or 110 yard blades with as a 28 handicap. I also hit bombs with no accuracy for fun i dont take golf too serious.

A 7 iron. I've played entire rounds from the standard mens tees and shot my typical score on several occasions. A lob wedge is useful, but remember Seve and his 3 iron. You can do everything with a 7.
56° is enough for me, I can still flop with it and chip around. I dented it with a big rock in a bunk when I first got it so it’s also my “I don’t really care if I hit a rock” club lol
It’s funny a 60 Lob Wedge completely transformed my game as a 14 Handicap. For approach shots within 100 years I don’t even think about using my 56 anymore. 90% of PGA Tour Players who use only three Wedges use a LW and only 30% use a SW. LW are so much better out o the sand as well. Honestly think using a LW dropped 2 Strokes to my Handicap. So underrated I honestly only use my SW for Greenside Chipping.
I took out my lob wedge. As a 40-45 handicap, I have no business with those "hero" type of shots. I have enough skill with my high toe 56° and can open it up a bit if needed, but I have little faith in a 58 or higher in my bag on the course. Great on the range and I love the 68° and 72° there, but I never use them on the course.

I grew up without a 60 and consider it pretty useless. If you know how to hit a 56 with an open face, which is much easier than it sounds, than you always have a lob shot around the green and out of bunkers. The only time I sometimes wish I had a 60 is from around 50-60 yards, but I still prefer having an extra hybrid in the bag instead.
Id disagree with this one solely because a 56 can pretty much do anything a 60 can do and more. Personally id say a long-mid iron like a 4 or 5. Perfect for 175-200 yard shots, can use it when your struggling of the tee with the big clubs and is very useful for punch shots if you have tree trouble or just need to get back in play.
Once I got a 58 I never used a SW again. Just PW, GW and LW. LW does everything SW does better (approach shots, flips shots, bunker) except chip which I use my GW for.
@@Moishe555 I’m the opposite I haven’t used a Fairway Wood in a Decade and have a 4 Handicap. 3W at the most is only going 20 years further than my Hybrid. If I’m going for a Par 5 I just do a Driver off the Deck, Hahah. I’d always use Four wedges a sacrifice a Wood or Hybrid depending on what you can hit best.
Learn how to hit flop shots and short shots with a SW. Then put a lob wedge in your bag. I try not to use it too much. Kinda like getting a hammer for Christmas. Every shot looks like a nail.
Idk that’s a dumb awnser if you think abt it. Go look at guys like Seve belesteros. Those dudes could chip w a 3 iron. They didn’t have all these different wedges back then. If there’s a better question it’s what’s the 3 clubs you NEED. And I’d love to hear the answers there. For me it would be 3 wood, 6 iron and my 56
I'm inclined to disagree. it would be interesting to tally club use and find out. I know my putter is the most used. averaging at least three uses per hole. my driver is used on every hole longer than a par 3. but usually no more than once per hole. I think my 4 iron is probably my least used club. a quick look shows it is the cleanest in my bag. for the average golfer, I'd say either fairway woods or long irons would be the least used, because they would tend to favor one over the other.
Not sure I agree. A 30 handicap golfer doesn’t understand you need to compress the ball, they’d be skulling it all over the place. They’re always trying to lift the ball because they don’t understand the loft does that. I’d say either a high lofted driver or 3 wood. In saying that I use my lob wedge for short bunker shots, but I play off +1 and it took years to be confident playing flop shots etc and I still skull a few
LW are better for height, spin, sand, flops. When most Pros ditch a wedge they always ditch a SW, because the only thing a LW can’t do is chip, but GW are great for chipping.
Better question: if you had to play golf for one year with only one club. What do you think you’d have the best handicap with? I’d say pitching wedge for me

I honestly believe that this is horrible advice. A flop shot takes finesse to do consistently...something that 99% of amateurs don't have.
I love my 60 degree. If I'm on the fringe of a green I'm more likely to use that than my putter. (13 hc)
I can use a 3 iron as a putter
7wood imo. Everyone needs a rescue club
56! Can use that think for literally every shot from 100 and in
Id disagree with this one solely because a 56 can pretty much do anything a 60 can do and more. Personally id say a long-mid iron like a 4 or 5. Perfect for 175-200 yard shots, can use it when your struggling of the tee with the big clubs and is very useful for punch shots if you have tree trouble or just need to get back in play.
My 58 does nothing but add extra strokes 😂I usually just use my 54 if I need to get over something.
Would you consider a 58 degree a lob wedge?
Two clubs plus a putter to finish 18? I'm doing my 7 & 58
Once I got a 58 I never used a SW again. Just PW, GW and LW. LW does everything SW does better (approach shots, flips shots, bunker) except chip which I use my GW for.
Been playing with just a 46* and a 50* and will never look back
This is the exact reason why his shortgame sucks
i’ve got a 64 degree and i use it out of the bunker and as a chipper
Thought it was going to be a hybrid.. don’t disagree with LW though :)
i thought driver but then again I know people who only use 3 wood and do great
@@Moishe555 I’m the opposite I haven’t used a Fairway Wood in a Decade and have a 4 Handicap. 3W at the most is only going 20 years further than my Hybrid. If I’m going for a Par 5 I just do a Driver off the Deck, Hahah. I’d always use Four wedges a sacrifice a Wood or Hybrid depending on what you can hit best.
Carry as many wedges as you want but only love one!
Learn how to hit flop shots and short shots with a SW. Then put a lob wedge in your bag. I try not to use it too much. Kinda like getting a hammer for Christmas. Every shot looks like a nail.
Wedge. The club Rick can't hit!!
For me it would be 3 wood, 6 iron and my 56
I can't live without my mashie niblick
I can’t use a lob wedge, I don’t think I’ve ever hit a good one
In my opinion most people struggle with the LW over the SW because the LW generally has less bounce.
For example my 56° has 10° and my 60° has 4°.
I think more people should be putting a 3 hybrid in their bag then a 60.
A driver is one of the most specialized clubs today, and it is probably the least used one in every bag.
I’m a 6 handicap and I use my driver on literally every par 4 and 5… it’s my fairway finder and my favorite club
Love me 60 hit balls for the dog whenever I walk him got me real familiar with it
It looks so good being 30 yards from the flag and lobbing a ball next to the pin. Just as if you walked up there and dropped it next to the hole.
I would go driver, Good Good proved you can drive, run it in to the green and putt with a driver!
Can somebody explain why I need a 60 lob when there is S iron ? They have similar loft no
LW are better for height, spin, sand, flops. When most Pros ditch a wedge they always ditch a SW, because the only thing a LW can’t do is chip, but GW are great for chipping.
People use their lob wedges too much. Get the ball rolling on the green as soon as possible.
I practice my lob wedge a lot. I use it a minor amount. I STILL.HATE IT!!!! I REALLY HATE IT despite being able to use it well
Better question: if you had to play golf for one year with only one club. What do you think you’d have the best handicap with?
I’d say pitching wedge for me
I personally believed in the 90's most handicaps couldn't a lob wedge. Maybe now it's different..
I have a 59 degree LW
Nah. In my experience (
