Yeah - strings are pretty important when it comes to slap... the newer the better really. I change mine about once every two weeks depending on hw many gigs I'm doing. Glad you're enjoying the lessons!

Thanks a million, Scott! You are a GREAT teacher! have been playing 30 years in famous bands in Greece as a hobby, and most I know is from studying hard alone. Now with your help I learn new things just for my amusement! Thanks again!

I'm a proud member now! It's like 3:21am I'm at work don't have my bass. I just joined around 2:50am....just reading through what I'm offered is overwhelming! I'm not a Begginer, I'm a old school bass player 57yrs old, I've played professionally back in my hey day, with some famous people. I was considered a very good player then. I'm a self taught pocket player, and really lack technique and theory knowledge ( lhave some not enough ). I quit playing for over a decade, and recently started playing again I'm actually getting a few good gigs but not the level I was on before. It wasn't necessary in my day to have the chops and knowledge needed today. I need this to get to the next level. I'm excited about this, there's a lot of people my age ( 50's are the new 30's ) going back to school or taking courses to improve their skill level to get better jobs. So I'm excited... I guess I'm saying all of this so you can REALLY feel the gratitude in my THANK YOU!

Excellent bassist, and an even better teacher. I needed a teacher like you years ago. I am a self taught hard knocks player. You make it look so easy, but I know it takes a lot of hard work.I have never had a need to play slap bass, but it is nice to learn it as another tool .Being able to play all styles of music , and being solid at it keeps me playing. No music on the spot, and no idea what song will be called next or what style of music. All style bands.

this took me about a month and a few weeks to master, but it's really fun and automatically used now that i learned it, it was what i was missing from my techs cause i always have a triplet feel i want to use, now that i've mastered it i can use it for an entire measure just hitting octaves putting a percussive thwack between the root and octave, i'm looking forward to if you do more slap bass lessons, cause i get alot more from your tuts then i do from others, thanks for the wonderful tut

The following is no cheat it is my desire to articulate my respect for what Scott is doing or trying to do: I am a studied bass player, who took a pretty long break due to work. I recently joined SBL and I have to say that it is superb - go for scott, he really knows what (!) and how (!!) to teach - and I can guarantee you this: This is a rare combo!! If you take his advices seriously, you will become a bass player! I am really thankful for what he does.

Thanks, Scott. I've been a bassist for years and never truly understood a lot of the art of slap bass. I have a bit of knowledge on it, but this is very informative. I appreciate your openness about the tricks of the art. A lot of folks would rather maintain their secrecy and let others guess at it. A good musician with the right attitude is willing to help, however.

I play guitar as my "main" instrument, but look to many drummers, keyboard players, and serious bassists for new techniques and flavors to add to my playing/writing (I play all of these instruments, and compose/jam on them equally in various styles).
I just wanted something new to learn this morning, so I looked up "ghost notes bass lesson" on UA-cam, and found this video. This triplet technique is the final piece of the puzzle for me in getting that percussive sound out of my fretted basses (also something I just recently got into on my 9 string guitar) so, thanks for this lesson and the funky practice exercise. I just subscribed.
