Hi, as an ex deer farmer (Red Deer) I can tell you that we do breed for results that gain us that extra dollar. Nothing new there as we have to compete with the Northern Hemisphere farmers and hunters. We farm red deer, red deer-wapiti crosses and fallow deer. Possum is an introduced animal and is classified as vermin and hunted and trapped for its fur. Both deer hair and possum hair and skins can be purchased from on line supply companies for those keen fly tiers. Try New Zealand products, we are famous for our fishing and hunting! Cheers mate. Good video. I dig through lots of bucktails to find good ones for musky flies. I’ve been buying Primotail for years. Ever since I fished with Brad in 2011 and saw his amazing colors and the fiber lengths. I get as many bucktails as possible from friends during deer season. Highly variable but some are really great. I leave them white as I don’t want to get into dying. And I’d never be able to duplicate Brad’s colors.
Gunnar what you don’t realize is that you because of who you are gets the best bucktail from musky fool. I tried to get some of the best bucktail, long fibers and that colour from Wisconsin that you use and I got neither. Yes I received OK bucktail but not like you receive. So because they know you promote them and you have a lot of viewers they give you the best where as the average person is not as lucky.
I dunno man..Dan at Musky Fool runs a solid business. I buy 90%+ of my tail from MF, Primo tail, and pretty much every grade AA I’ve bought and many of the A’s are very good no complaints. I’ve gotten a couple that were ridiculous like Gunnar has here..I felt bad cutting it, it was such excellent tail. You gotta expect the biggest customers/promoters of MF to get first pick of limited supply premium product. But I never feel like I got sold bottom-of-barrel-stuff. Just my .02. I’ll still keep buying from MF
Gunnar - not sure you’ll see this or have time to comment back. What can you do about a greasy bucktail? Unfortunately I have to buy online 90% of time. I bought from a very reputable WI retailer that we all know well. However I got a couple tails they are greasy and don’t spin or flare well. Any options? Thanks.
Awesome video, as always Man! We have our own line of Bucktails comeing out. Appalachian tails from right here in WV. Our mountain deer get big. Working on dying 1000 tails now. Should have them available first of the new year !

Here in Europe allmost every kind of bucktail is sold out. Any idea why this happend ? Impossible to buy any kind of bucktail, sadly. Importing as a private from the States will bring on Hole piece of bucktail up to aprox 30$ at least.
Concur on both the MF tails and Brad's. I picked some of Brad's up at the Maryland Fly Show a few years ago and have used them sparingly since he doesn't list them on his website ever. Thankfully now I can get them from MF!!
I love Daniel Holm - I learned a lot from his channel! Dude has passion that doesn't quite and the best humor on the planet. He definitely runs a quality shop!
And the other huge problem is here in Europe - everything have to come from the states and the import taxes is a bigger killer than the Hiroshima bomb.. that’s why you pretty much cant find any bucktail other than the cheapest shit you can find and often been packed in a plastic bag for month/years before someone buys it. Bend and twerked out fibers - and pretty much useless..
Brad Buzzi tails are hands down the best! It is incredible how the quality has so much attention to detail! So good, so consistent.

It’s also hard in the states unless you want the generic ungraded stuff, have to wait for the big drop then wait months for it to be back in stock
