Hey Doug, "there must be a better way....?" - have you thought of having a dry old blunt "sacrificial" chain in place to protect the bar groove and end sprocket from the powder coat? Then remove (let gravity do its thing) before baking. Clean off the chain between powder coatings. Great video, great idea and great team work 👏
Doug, that's a really slick process. You and Adam have it figured out. I wish our weather had it figured out. So far our spring has sucked. Anyway, stay safe, try to stay dry and healthy. Bill H from Cranberry Township
Nice work Doug, when I did conformal coating in electronics, I used a latex rubber liquid material to mask the appropriate areas some were quite detailed, after coating was completed the latex just pulled off and left a clean surface. This might be a masking option for you to consider. As always your work is original, detailed and well done. Just watched the completion on Adam’s channel they do stand out. 😀👍👍👍
Absolutely awesome job Doug, i would love a video to show a step by step guide to making a home power coating setup, with equipment needed etc. Really enjoyed this one
To cover the sprocket end better, why not cut pieces of the thin tape you run around the edge - to fit into the spaces between the sprocket and then run the tape around the edge over the top of it. I think the additional small pieces between the sprockets will eliminate you having to clean out so much overspray.
Excellent work, Doug. I previously worked for a powder coating company until accepting an offer to a new organization at the end of 2023. We did some cool powder coatings on car chassis, wheels, welded exterior stairs, etc. Yours is a good idea, and yes, I know it is expensive. Have you considered NIC Industries Cerakote? It is a durable finish as well, and self lubricating so anything that allows the chain to run smoother can't be a bad idea. I do not know how it would respond to a laser. They also have a clear cerakote that would further protect any metal that was exposed after a laser was done to it.
I don't know anything about powder coating so it was a very interesting video, would some type of food grade grease work for the sprocket to keep the paint from sticking. It would probably melt off in the oven. Not sure if would make a bigger mess or not.
Truthfully, I wouldn't do that to my bars. I don't use my saw enuf and it's just not something I'd be willing to spend money on. Adam talked about using it on a retired chainsaw...that's a pretty good idea for a conversation piece. All that said, it is a real cool looking bar when done No denying that!
Wow beautiful job! For your sprocket problem, would a putty or silicone work? Would have to be some kind that doesn't crack under high temperature, and doesn't leave a residue behind that will gum up the gear.
Doug… are you not flipping your bar to even out the wear? I can’t recall ever seeing your logo inverted, and it should spend 50% of it’s life with the lettering on the bar upside down. 👍
Very nice job! Depending on how you sharpen your chain, wouldn't the traditional jigs damage the powder coating? That might fall under normal wear and tear…
Very cool process! Am I correct in assuming this wouldn’t work with the Japanese (Tsumura) style lightweight bars with the impregnated resin? Great job!
Yes on both counts. I don’t live far away and can drop it off today or tomorrow. I’ve purchased some slabs off Adam. It’s about a 40 minute drive and would love to see the progress
I will not be able to do it today or tomorrow, but you are welcome to drop it off. Send me an email to make this easier please. Sometimes these comments get lost and deleted. oneeyecustoms22@gmail.com
Great job Doug and Adam! Those custom bars are going to be in high demand.
Well done collaboration Doug. A very interesting idea. I really think you guys are onto something there.
Good day Doug , I’m interested in a 24” Husqvarna bar done with my logo. Once I am settled with Adam on the sign. Outstanding work Doug. 👌🏻🔥🇨🇦
You two are always dreaming up new ideas, keep up the good work
I like Adams idea of color coding the different length bars. I probably won't do it, but very cool idea!👍
Well Doug and Adam you know what the rest of the wood hounds will be wanting you guys to do now 😮😊❤
Both of those bars are beautiful, I like the orange one best myself
Youtwo will be having plenty of orders ❤ LOVE these in this community watch out
My coffee’s getting cold without a sunday video from Doug! Haha. Hope everything is ok
All ok other than tons of rain and couldn’t get out to get a video this week. Thanks for checking in!
Great video Doug, I think they turned out very nice. The orange really pops.
Thanks 👍

Great tip!
For protecting the end of the bar with the teeth, try Plumber's Putty. Flexible and easy to remove.

Thank you! Cheers!
Looks awesome!
Thanks!
Hi doug and Adam, i like your shows on UA-cam. Good job with the chainsaws
Thanks 👍
You are welcome
Neat idea! I’d stick with the gray bar for everyone’s logos. 👍

I’ll have to look into that!
That Husqvarna orange looks awesome on that steel lol.😆 😂😅. In all seriousness, that looks awesome.

Great suggestion!
Those sews need some WestCoast Saw 3 point dogs!
My 462 has them and a bark box.
Looks good like the spray booth, just need a bigger oven. I like watching both your channels!
Doug, is there anything you can’t do?! Very nice.
Thanks. Can’t fly a plane or get CDL license. One eye problems

I think the "wear n tear" on the 264 looks good .
Always a great vlog
Thank you!
@@OneEyeCustoms your welcome my friend .
I like the orange. Keep it up.
Looks amazing. But, now when the bar is flipped the design will be upside down.
Yep, no way around it.

Yep, I am flipping it. Couple videos with it upside down mine and Adam’s videos.
Very nice job! Depending on how you sharpen your chain, wouldn't the traditional jigs damage the powder coating? That might fall under normal wear and tear…
I grab my bar in a vise with aluminum jaws.
But yes, a traditional vice would damage it
Do you think some kind of modeling clay would work to seal up wont you don't want to spray ? Should just flake off when your done
Has to withstand 400 deg F for 30 min.
It might work??
Get u neon green
Very cool process! Am I correct in assuming this wouldn’t work with the Japanese (Tsumura) style lightweight bars with the impregnated resin? Great job!
I’m really not sure. I would have to look into that before trying it.
@@OneEyeCustoms I've got a couple I could send you to test on if you're interested. Thanks Doug!
Adam looked 6’-6’ in this video …is he growing?
lol, I think it was his high rise shoes
Is the powder stickier on wood than the factory paint?
Not that I have noticed.
@@OneEyeCustoms good to know.
Doug, would it be possible for you to powder coat my WCS clutch cover? I really like it but it needs covered.
Is it bare aluminum?
And in Stihl grey?
Yes on both counts. I don’t live far away and can drop it off today or tomorrow. I’ve purchased some slabs off Adam. It’s about a 40 minute drive and would love to see the progress
