As a Senior golfer (with a bad back), trying to maintain all the supposed Proper Swing Techniques, this is going to help my ageing ass out... Thanks Chris!!!
70 y/o geezer here, it's basically the Hogan swing, it creates a very powerful position so u can go at it as hard as u want with no back pain. VJ Sing used a towel or glove tucked under his armpit to practice feeling it.. not that u need my advice lol. it will make driver the best club in your bag..bombs away
Thanks for validating my shorter swing. I have been concentrating for a couple of years now on keeping my right arm tucked into my side, and it has helped me a lot. I've always seen the other guys that I golf with take their long swings, and I've felt bad that if I did that, I sprayed the ball all over the course. Keeping it close and shorter helps me hit straighter drives more often.
Another awesome and very educational video. You have a longer back swing but you definitely explained how to shorten mine up and hit it more pure. Keep the videos coming my friend, cheers.
Im 66 and I've evolved into almost the exact same swing you demoed today. I can't hit the 320 yds. drives I could with my full swing 20 years ago but I still get an occasional 300 (runout) on a hot TX. summer day without throwing my back out.
Tell u what Chris it’s a great tip mate..last April I was 6.2 then went up to 9.2…I was having trouble out of bunkers arms leaving the body catching the heel and thinning..tried the “tuck tip this morning boom legendary out of bunkers no problems..irons were more consistent..my driving always decent but irons sometimes lack due to the flailing arms..this will change that mate I can see it 👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥 cheers best tip on you tube for ages this..
My nephew is a professional golfer. I solicited him for a lesson. This is what he taught me and it was instant success. I videoed taped my swing and, admittedly, I look a little constricted, but the result was straighter drives and more confidence.
He explains a 3/4 backswing and demonstrates a full swing where the Club is pointing to the target or even slightly downwards. That is not a short backswing at all, sorry. Have a look at Jon Rahm to see a short backswing with superior length.
First, his hand position at the completion of his backswing is just past the 9’o clock position for a right handed player, that is a 3/4 position. The flex of the shaft at the end of his backswing is bowed downward giving the impression of a full or over swing. Hand and lead arm position at the completion of the backswing determines 1/4-1/2 and 3/4 backswing. Better than average players know this.
@@saokuerten8173 It does not depend in which way the club reaches its final position in the backswing. Most important thing is the way the clubhead travels to the ball. A clubhead pointing to the target or even downwards is not a short backswing at all. Low single digit handicap player know this.
Was working on something similar at the range today from Cowan. My accuracy was way up but my distances we still down. I think mostly i hit the ball with more compression but it was a very new approach for my swing and I think I need some time getting used to it. I struggle with duck hooks and blocks to the right usually.
Just wondering why Chris has his right thumb on top of the shaft? When I did that it activated my right side too quickly. However, I like the short compact swing.
A flying right elbow did just fine for Freddy couples and Jack Nicklaus. It seems easy to shallow out the club when you do have a flying right elbow and pull it in in the downswing
Funny enough I tried this exact technique based on two other lesson videos, one to tuck the elbows and one to avoid bending my trail arm past 90 degrees. Works very well.
I restrict the hips on the way back, much as you, and finish the back swing once the left shoulder hits the chin. Only 70kg so need to spin the hips to get lag and generate power.
I'm not sure who thus guy is but that swing wasn't short and compact at all! He went past parallel. Do not do any of this unless you want to hit it 20-30 yards right of your aim point. As you can see from his video, he hit this ball way right of his target. You can clearly see his feet aimed at the meet side of the fairway and his ball ends up going somewhere down the right side or into the rough. If you want a short powerful swing jeep your keep your left arm stiff on your backswing and when you feel your wrists needing to bend stop and fire. Your best swing thought using this will be thumbs down at set up... thumbs up at the top and stop of your backswing... and thumbs down at impact. All these videos online might work for 50 handicaps but if you're a 10 or less looking for short backswing and power then cut your clubs down an inch and get senior flex shafts.
I have a short backswing, but I somehow tihten up on the grip which then becomes a negative wrist cock and so I get even less distance. At almost 80 years old I can't figure out how to stop this negative wrist action!!
Only started playing golf last April (aged 41) Played once or twice a week at my local par 3 course up until October, Spent since then watching about 500 UA-cam videos and practice swinging in my house Got the opportunity to play today for the 1st time in nearly 4 months Felt so confident I was going to be pinging golf balls all over the fairway and how wrong I was 😂 I was absolutely horrendous, played 18 holes and think I hit 4 decent shots the whole round (1 was 8 feet from the pin on a par 3) Pretty much everything just skulled along the grass. So annoying
Hi Bro ! I ll give an advice ; lets try practice - with your irons , and 5 or 3 woods - with tennis balls , on somewhere playground ! About 2- 3 weeks time after , you defenetly hit storger , faster ... and accurate ! Just try hitting low trajectory , slight draw or straight shots ... how far just you can , first . Then the finish , try higher straight shots with backspin . When you get confidence with this practice , try real golf balls ! Dramatically fast improve ! Good luck ! 😉
Trying to think of half a dozen moving parts, during a two second swing, is impossible for me. I like this single thought approach - I’ll give it a go.
“Connected” is what I sim for but can’t honestly understand what part of the trail arm you’re trying to keep close to your body. I end up with my trail elbow and up stuck to my side. 🤷🏼
Nice dissertation but YOU should view your own back swing which is ridiculously long; to the point you could see it over your left shoulder. Nice ball. poor demonstration. FYI
How on earth would you know what someones full swing is? Chris's "full swing" almost takes out his left knee at the top... its all relative. sorry you couldn't make sense of it
Your swing looks awfully armsy to me. You shorten up a swing by swinging with your body trunk muscles only. This is also called "the connected" swing. And there is actually an increase in power. I see more and more touring pro going to this today. Almost zero arms.

Simply. Great. I will give it a go, this is definitely something I need to incorporate into my swing.

Sure you can 😮

Feel vs real
I thought the same his backswing was really a full swing sorry to tell you ,have a look at it yourself,

@@saokuerten8173 every one has different range of motion on their back swing....watch jon rahm vs adam scott

With my jacked up shoulder, I can't wait to try this out!
Great looks very helpful!! Thanks very much Chris

Love it! Simple but effective..
Guys, this was another fantastic lesson, thanks so much!!
At 3:19 you are past parallel on your backswing...that's supposed to be a shorter backswing?
worth a go, whats to lose, will try this on my next round, tuck in that arm
Batman and Robin... best duo on UA-cam! Thanks for another great golf lesson.
Great video. Great 2 shots! Cheers to a great new golf year
Love it!! That is powerful!! Keep up the great work!!

I just switched to this and shot 1 over today as a 8 hcp.
This swing is genius. Can’t wait to hit simulator again. Will use for irons.
At 61 years old, my swings have become more 3/4. Like the practice with a towel or head over under my arm. Gives the same effect.
In simple words, that's the Ben Hogan's Magic move😊 good video btw, ahhh you could use a small towel as well😁
swing thought to do this, if you think fold my right arm it tucks in just as you say
Chris is amazing fantastic swing..the problem is the average guy has 85 to 90 swing speed ..so you lose distance show a 85 mph swing speed thanks to
Love this. Off to the range!

Great video. But, that doesn’t look like a compact backswing. I think of Finau or Rahm. You’re going to parallel..just a thought.
Damn! this could be good for me (senior)!
Trying to think of half a dozen moving parts, during a two second swing, is impossible for me. I like this single thought approach - I’ll give it a go.
SUPERB. !!!
Thank you
Once again, Chris for the win...
thanks for that!!
Chris for the win with Robbo running scared simple tip for maximum james’ money return 😂😂😂
Your swing looked good , almost Hogan like at the top. but not very compact in terms of 3/4 shorter more compact.
ummm, a short backswing is a great topic... however, you demonstrated a regular full swing
Right in the trees, just like mine😂😂, I will try this, I tend to try and kill it and duff the shot.
That backswing was parallel to the ground.
That is the idea of the drill, this swing was actually shorter than Chris’ normal swing all part of the process 👍🏻
But could it help MHD?
It’s a tip not a miracle Davo
1:23 that's not really that short a backswing!
The simpler the swing the better
Martin Hall's voice coming from this young lad.
Doug Sanders could swing in a phone booth!!
Not as long a swing and yet both shots at the end of the video are full swings 🤷♂
“Connected” is what I sim for but can’t honestly understand what part of the trail arm you’re trying to keep close to your body. I end up with my trail elbow and up stuck to my side. 🤷🏼
Yopu guys are the dogs bollocks !! Better than Morecambe and Wise, lol greetings from the soft south
Errr nobody was better than Morecambe and Wise, check out the numbers for their Christmas Specials😉🤣
Lol, true, i meant in the Golf World!@@MC-nb6jx
He doesn't have a short backswing at all! Goes past parallel everytime.
Jon Rahm
That isn't a short backswing, you should see mine
So are we gonna just leave out the fact this also helps ball striking and accuracy?
Not a short backswing you’re showing
What course are you playing on that is open in this fucking weather...?
Why don't you try having a go at the single plane swing like Moe Norman did years ago. Keep it simple.🤔🤔🤔
Nice dissertation but YOU should view your own back swing which is ridiculously long; to the point you could see it over your left shoulder. Nice ball. poor demonstration. FYI
Good job Chris isn’t trying to play in the masters then and spends his time helping people like you for free isn’t it. FYI
As a fly fisherman this offends me
Both drives were FULL swings. This video makes no sense.

I hate too see his long swing..🤔
😅😂 Hi there !
Next time , please showing swing for SHORTER GOLFERS ! 😆😅🤣.... ( i'm 5' 2" ) short but powerful !😉😅🤣 ... ☝️👍👍👍
No no and no .sorry but not correct at all .
Cheers Jim
Those didn't sound like great drives. Seemed to be blocked a little right.
Too complex.
Lol
