An underrated president and a great Chief Justice.
You're absolutely right! He was determined to get rid of everything that even remotely resembled a business monopoly, and although his physical size was problematic, emotionally and mentally he was super strong! Moreover, as to ideas about world peace, he was already in 2023 in 1909! Cherry on top - when asked about his presidency, he said he didn't see how he could have done any differently from what he had, and this despite the fact that he hated being president with a passion!
Thank you for telling his story
Thank you for thanking me for telling his story
Great music!
A few fun facts about this president:
It is thought that in making the choice he did for Chief Justice, he was trying to maneuver his own way into that post.
He was the one who created the Department of Labor.
Archibald Butt, who was one of his military aides, was on the Titanic.
He attempted to create a stuffed animal opossum and label it as a Billy possum to counter the teddy bear.
He was physically unable to tie his own shoes when he was president.
When he got on the Supreme Court, two of those he had appointed were still there.
From 1924 to 1929, he was the only former president of the United States still alive.
The famous Taft-Hartley Act does not refer to this Taft, but to his son Robert, who was a prominent politician in his own right.
Edit: regarding the two justices he both appointed and served with, Mahlon Pitney lasted less than a year after Taft became Chief Justice. But the other such justice, Willis Van Devanter, was on the Supreme Court until 1937 - and thus he outlasted Taft by seven years!
His grandfather was old enough to meet washington
I really like the music
Notice that at 1:57 he seems to be just as excited to get out of office as Wilson is to get in office!
An interesting fact from the politics of the United States: Taft never used horses because he was afraid of breaking them into two parts and secondly: once he got stuck in the bathtub and was taken out with the help of oil
The reason for all this: WEIGHT
I am sure that at first, this president came across as pretty intimidating (with a guy THAT size in the top spot). But that probably faded away in two seconds once people saw his friendly demeanor and heard his rather high and somewhat subdued voice!
Love new video
Can wait for the jimmy carter a life though time (1924-) please
Please do William 4 please

Only former president to ever swear in another president! 2 of them actually, in both 1925 and 1929
And it must have been quite a thrill for him, being on the other side of that equation!
fun fact William H Taft and Harry S Truman were close freinds

Wow
For being so fat, he lived a long life.
To be fair, he did lose more than a quarter of his body weight after he left the White House, to end up at 240 pounds. Not quite healthy weight, but off the extreme list!
