  • On this week’s episode of the Escape Your Limits Podcast, we interview the “Godfather of Glutes,” and the man who created the viral glute workout-the hip thrust- Bret Contreras.
Wanting to understand the functionalities of the body more with certain workouts, Bret published over 50 peer reviewed articles that discussed his findings from everything between the effects crunches to doing higher reps with lower weights.
Contreras dives into the anatomy of the glutes, and the best way to train them. He also gives insight into building your muscles, and what some of the best practices are to see growth.
Due to his in-depth knowledge of the glutes, he has become known as the “glute guy,” and has trained hundreds of clients and transforming their bodies.

Great content. I went through this journey in my mid-forties and lived what you explained, got muscles packed, went from 0 pull ups to 8 in a set over 5 months. I have not lost much belly fat but have gained tons of strength and muscle. I would not have believed what you preached a year ago when a believed that a gym workout was for bodybuilding and not for regular people with kids/day jobs.

I've had amazing gastroc muscles from birth. Arms, chest and glutes are difficult for me as a man to grow. (BTW, I can't help myself when I see a UA-cam podcast by a beautiful, young woman with naturally large glutes teaching the viewership how to exercise the glutes. I'm spellbound, transfixed, but after a few minutes I'm able to recover and watch important news about the war in Ukraine, the coming war with China, and Global Climate Change.

It is always hilariously ironic when someone doesn’t understand the dunning Kruger effect but then try to tell people that the Dunning Kruger effect is when stupid people think they’re smart. That’s not what it looks like at all. It doesn’t look like an inverse relationship.

    mind muslce connection:
ignoring the the task and focusing on the mechanics making it happen instead, i.e bodybuilding is all about lifting weights? no.. thats a bi product, body building is all about stressing a targeted muscle, technically we shouldnt need to read what weight is on the bar our muscles cant read they only know stress, weight numbers are for powerlifters, powerlifters seek to make heavy weight easy bodybuilders make lighter weights as taxing as possible.
if you are performing a barbell curl and swinging your entire body to lift it, you are not stressing the bicep your target muscle, instead concentrate that the movement of the barbell is achieved only through the tensing and contraction of the bicep muscle.
do a barbell curl without a barbell, have some one put an arm against your foreamr now have them resist your forearm while you flex your bicep as if to show it off you are now focusing your mind into that muscle and moving your partners arm in the process (the bi product is movement)

Bodybuilders don't concentrate on the gluten as much because it's not something that is scored. Striations maybe. Also, the conventional thinking is the gluten gets worked through leg exercises. Not concentrating on the glutes had nothing to do with homophobia. Am from, "Back in the day" an it was seen as too feminine.
