  • Click to find out what you must know about forward pedaling bicycles for women. Forward pedaling designed bikes have become popular in the recreational market because of the comfort they provide and also safety features. The forward pedaling design allows riders to stop and put their feet flat on the ground while still getting ample leg extension when riding. For women, a forward pedaling designed bike can be a great option, especially if you are between 4'11" to 5'2" tall. In this video, Alanna who is 5'1" shows us how she fits on the sixthreezero EVRYjourney, a touring hybrid bicycle that features a forward pedaling design.

Another handy thing about this kind of bike is that it'll often fit well into a car. I can fit my bike into a little Micra after taking off the front wheel.

Thanks for sharing this video. About adjusting seat height. On common bikes ,we usually set a seat height at a point where the leg could be fully extended with the heel contacting the pedal, which is at the lowest position (6 o'clock position). Could this method also be applied to forward pedalling bicycles? Thanks in advance for your advice.

    • @sixthreezero
      @sixthreezero  5 років тому +1

Not really because your leg will be extended forward. I'd suggest just looking at the end of the leg, and adjusting height until rider's leg has a slight bend but is not fully extended. The forward pedaling adjustment is not as standard as a "normal" frame bicycle.

What about the knee bend required to pedal it? I can no longer ride my traditional bike because one of my knees only bends 90 degrees. I’m desperate to get back to riding!

Do you mean your knee cannot flex further than 90 degrees or cannot extend more than 90?

I honestly can't decide between the journey or the ATB. I plan on using a bike for grocery shopping and commuting to the train station. My local grocery store and train station are within 2 miles of me. The way to the grocery store has some hills but nothing super steep. Would a 7 speed internal journey be okay for going up hills? or maybe even a 3 speed? or should I go with an ATB 3 speed for the fact I can get more of my body weight on the peddle?

Hi! These bikes have significant differences that are important to consider when choosing.
The Around The Block has the classic cruiser design that has been around for about ninety years. With the EVRYjourney, the frame has been changed in two ways.
The frame is extended a few inches. so it is a bit longer, roomier.
The pedals have been moved forward so that the rider can sit closer to the ground and touch the ground with both feet flat when standing.
Another key difference between them is that the EVRYjourney is made of aluminum while the Around The Block is made of steel so, when fully assembled, the EVRYjourney weighs about 35 lbs. and the Around The Block weighs about 38 lbs. (The actual weight can vary depending on the size and speed choice)
Some other differences that the EVRYjourney has compared to the Around the Block model are:
The inclusion of a quick-release front wheel.
      A much softer seat.
A three piece crank instead of a single piece crank.
A much higher quality material for the grips when comparing the single speed variants.
It's worth noting that both bikes offer an upright riding position to take the strain off of the back.
You can also check this video:

I hope this helps you make your decision on which one to choose.
