Great video and topic that I never thought of. I’m a DIY home owner that maintains his own trees by learning from you guys. I run a Monkey Beaver 2.0 saddle and Rope Runner Pro using SRT. Thanks again from a loyal YT subscriber for all your great and well-explained content, well done as always!
SOLO, could you do a video on sending tops? like what notch cuts to use to get them to land flat, cuts to use which better help you flip the butt over so they land in the opposite direction etc that would be pretty cool and a big help thanks as always fella, love the vids
Hey Anubisrunner08, I will definitely see what I can do about putting something together for you. It would be a beneficial video for everyone to watch. Stay safe brother.
Great video again. As a former tree climber who is highly allergic to wasps and hornets, always have a game plan to get out quickly. I always tried to have a tie in before my boots left the ground, so if I had to I could bail. And there was acouple times I had to bail.
Even on the ground. I set my climbing line in a big oak, stepped up to it, threw my flip line around, clipped it in my D-ring and felt a familiar stinging on my legs. There was a yellow jacket hole between my feet and my dark blue pants were now yellow. Before I could get unclipped and get away they wore me out below the waist. I had a long sleeve hi-vis yellow shirt on and not one even landed on it. I found out why bee keepers wear light colors.
Always a good thing to keep in mind. I was about 20ft out on a maple limb doing a reduction and got hit by some carpenter bees. Luckily they live in small groups so I only got stung/bit 2x if it had been a hive or nest of another species I would of gotten torn up. Couple weeks later I was trimming a Sycamore and nearly stuck my boot in a honey bee hive. Fortunately I saw it and avoided it so I didn't get stung honey bees tend to be docile so I was able to finish my trim without a problem. I've been climbing in my area for less than a year hives and nests a definitely a regular occurrence and something to look for.
They call me the bee whisperer on my crew because I used to keep bees and never wore a bee suit because I figured out that for the most part they are docile if you can keep a cool head and not release any stress hormones, probably the same reason you didn't get lit up since you just calmly got down. I am way more afraid of poison oak lol.
Damn that happened to me in a pine by yellow jackets. About 4yrs ago. I to this day don't know where they were. I'm thinking under bark. I was 30ft ish.
I hadn't thought thought about that as a serious hazard. Keeping an EpiPen in your first aid kit might be a good idea for all of us. Definitely for those who are highly allergic.
Yeah man definitely bees and wasps can be horrible I was up in a maple cut right through this hollow leader thank goodness I was tied in already I got hit at least 16 times in the back of my head I flew out of that tree so fast if I wasn't tied in though I'd have been hit a lot worse
Always good to have a back up…so true. Great scripture:)
We all learn so much from you. Thank you. 🇺🇸🪓🪵🪓

Thanks for sharing your story Ray. I was blessed on that day to not get hit more than once.
