Great reaction as always. Wonderful performance and it was great and fitting to hear Woorim’s voice. He needed to be there one way or another. This was a celebratory performance since they have won King of Kings 6 times and still hold the record. I thought it was fantastic how they embraced their different styles right down to the clothes. You have Mingyu the classic band leader, Doohoon the musical actor and Hyungho the rocker. It is the uniqueness of the 4 members that makes Forestella the best and add their individual amazing talents and vocal ranges and you get the best quartet around. I’m curious about Hyungho’s last note he hit at the very end. It sounds like it’s way up there. Keep reacting to Forestella. I love your analysis ❤

I enjoyed the Forestella reaction today as well. Yes, they are trio for a while. But in this performance they were quartet. They brought woorim's voice through prerecording ❤ "Immotal Song 2" is a program where junior singers cover the songs of legendary senior singers to determine the winner. And the winners who are selected every week gather to play the king of kings twice a year. Forrestella is a team that participated in the King of Kings eight times and won six times, and showed this "Piano man" performance in the first half of 2024 as an invited singer before the ceremony.
Regarding your comment regarding the conscious use of different types of singing styles by the individual members: It is actually one of FORESTELLA's INTENTIONS to further dissolve the boundaries between the different "classes" of music even more. They are known to have very different musical backgrounds and different musical preferences, which also applies to their fans. In order to keep everyone as happy as possible, they (originally a classical crossover vocal group) changed agencies in 2021 and decided to include more contemporary music in their repertoire. There are many classical crossover groups, but FORESTELLA is an exception here. Unlike other "classical" crossover groups that add rock/pop elements to classical arrangements but remain in the classical genre, FORESTELLA takes a different path. Thanks to their extremely adaptable voices and talents, they are able to shine in any genre. Starting from a wide variety of contemporary music, especially pop and rock, they mix a wide variety of genres and styles in often unusual ways. Both in terms of the choice of instruments, the conscious use of classical singing techniques and the clearly accentuated use of classical vocals. (Which is still considered a "no go" in pop and sometimes sounds a little unusual to some). But as you have already said: IT WORKS and the number of international fans from all areas of music is constantly increasing.

Woorim is there in spirit, since they have recorded him for background vocals. (Yes, that’s him in the backing track) They each are representing different musical eras, their clothes, their backgrounds, their dancers… Hyungho has the Elvis outfit with the rock band, classic 50’s rock background and the modern street dancers, Mingyu has the ‘Prince Eric’ outfit with the stained glass and strings behind him and the dinner party waltzers, Doohoon has the elegant suit next to the piano with the newsies dancers. They definitely had a lot of fun with the visuals here. Mingyu’s “Doll” like look is most definitely his classical training coming to the front (although he no longer considers himself an Opera singer/vocalist, the training remains). I love that we get to hear so much more of Doohoon’s Baritone sound with Woorim gone, but I still think we will all be happiest when Woorim is back with them. Mingyu even goes on to say how much he misses Woorim (while tearing up) in the short interview they do after the performance. They were given high praise before this performance, as this is the intro to the “King of Kings” special episode of the Immortal Songs contest and Forestella currently hold the record for most consecutive wins in the show’s history. They truly are Immortal Song’s “King of Kings”. ❤🌲💫

Watched this on your Patreon page unfiltered, it’s always nice to see the performers because their bodily movements typically reflect their vocals in some way. I grew up with Billy Joel, he is such a brilliant songwriter and performer. I loved the counter tenor’s vocal tone, it actually reminds me quite a bit of Mitch Grassi’s tone, light, but with roundness, body and clarity although I think his vibrato is generally faster than Mitch’s. Still, I hear a lot of similarity in their voices. All in all, a well-balanced performance by all 3 singers, lots of dynamics which helped keep the piece interesting. It was definitely Ko Woorim where you heard him, quite certainly pre recorded, as he is currently serving his military service until May 2025. His voice is unmistakable!

The Korean verbiage you see in the beginning which is typical in live performances are attributions to the artist and featured musicians (in this case, dance team, guitar soloist, grand pianist, etc.). You are right that there was no live harmonica. The pre-recorded bass you're hearing is in fact Koh Woo Rim who has been absent for the past year due to his mandatory military service (South Korea still has conscription since they're still technically at war). The other members who are much older have already fulfilled their active military duty and have continued in the interim as a trio.

Yeees, incredibly creative, they turned the song completely on its head!! Their most successful song so far, 20 million views within two years testify to it.
The original is already so perfect, that I was skeptical that this could work. 😅 But the addition of the flute and the strings and the harmonies sound pretty. 😊 But there are some parts in this that gave me a sudden 80s Top Gun feeling. You made my day! I found the video itself yesterday. So happy to see you do this so soon! As always, fantastic R & A! A bit of context: If you look at the stage, not only are the singers dressed differently, but they do so to represent different timelines: Bae Doo Hoon (singing in a bar context), Cho Mingyu (dressed in a 17th century (?) costume, with the stained glass and strings behind him), and Kang Hyung Ho representing a rock star (with the neon lights, the guitars and drums, etc.). One of the things I love is that you nailed it in your R & A! Ko Woorim is doing his mandatory military service and is about half-way through. I'm pretty sure that's his voice on the backing track, but from what I understand, he won't be appearing with them in person for another 9 months. I think his service is over sometime toward the end of May, 2025. In the interim, the other three are still performing. I must admit that I've not listened to many of this year's performances, but this is the first time I've heard the bass come in as a backing track. It's nice that he's present in some way, even though he can't be there in person. BTW, Kang Hyung Ho actually IS a rock star: can't wait until you do some of his solo work as Pitta. The actual song starts near the 4 minute mark, although if you turn on cc in English, you'll get some great context for it. I recommend watching the whole video for the context. It's really touching. November 9, 1973 -- just 20 days before my 24th birthday -- that's when Billy Joel released the song. I had been living in Soldotna, Alaska, but had been in an auto accident involving a two-year-old-ish moose (I didn't hit him, or the reverse, but I DID hit the only tree in the vicinity, while trying NOT to involve the two-ton-ish moose), and broke my right arm OFF (under the skin) at the wrist. Ultimately, while healing, I went back and stayed for a while with my mom and dad (and my first two kids) in Valdez, while my husband (who became my ex-husband a few years later) was commanding the National Guard unit, in Seward. So...when this song came out, I was in a household with a great piano (bought by my dad, especially for my mom). Valdez still didn't have TV, but I was raised listening to the radio to hear new music. Mom and I heard the song for the first time, together, and she immediately began to pick up on it. You see, HER life had been pretty much spent as the "Piano Woman," though she BEGAN playing music on the violin and also played six or seven other instruments, as well. I had gotten my right arm back into condition enough to play a (somewhat slower than usual) version of "The Birth of the Blues" (a great one for learning to reach at least an octave, while your arm is still in a restrictive position in a heavy cast). So the two of us spent quite a bit of "special" time playing and singing both of those songs (not at the same time, obviously), while my two little ones danced around the living room to the music and the family parakeet was also learning to sing a new song that my dad had been teaching him: "All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth." Seriously! So when Sammy heard us singing one of the other songs (and others by the wayside) and playing the piano, he just HAD to chime in with his own notes and rhythms that didn't match any of the songs on which we were concentrating. Sometimes we just had to put his cage cover on, so he'd drift off to sleep. Then Mom would shake her finger at Daddy and say to him, "See what you've done to him, Frank?!" Then we'd all get a good laugh. So...yeah...rather strange memories regarding that song, but I will ALWAYS love it, Forestella did a totally WONDERFUL job with it, and your Reaction/Analysis was really GREAT. WOW!!! Thank you! 😀

Great reaction as always. Wonderful performance and it was great and fitting to hear Woorim’s voice. He needed to be there one way or another. This was a celebratory performance since they have won King of Kings 6 times and still hold the record. I thought it was fantastic how they embraced their different styles right down to the clothes. You have Mingyu the classic band leader, Doohoon the musical actor and Hyungho the rocker. It is the uniqueness of the 4 members that makes Forestella the best and add their individual amazing talents and vocal ranges and you get the best quartet around.
I’m curious about Hyungho’s last note he hit at the very end. It sounds like it’s way up there.

Forrestella is a team that participated in the King of Kings eight times and won six times, and showed this "Piano man" performance in the first half of 2024 as an invited singer before the ceremony.
Regarding your comment regarding the conscious use of different types of singing styles by the individual members: It is actually one of FORESTELLA's INTENTIONS to further dissolve the boundaries between the different "classes" of music even more. They are known to have very different musical backgrounds and different musical preferences, which also applies to their fans. In order to keep everyone as happy as possible, they (originally a classical crossover vocal group) changed agencies in 2021 and decided to include more contemporary music in their repertoire. There are many classical crossover groups, but FORESTELLA is an exception here. Unlike other "classical" crossover groups that add rock/pop elements to classical arrangements but remain in the classical genre, FORESTELLA takes a different path. Thanks to their extremely adaptable voices and talents, they are able to shine in any genre. Starting from a wide variety of contemporary music, especially pop and rock, they mix a wide variety of genres and styles in often unusual ways. Both in terms of the choice of instruments, the conscious use of classical singing techniques and the clearly accentuated use of classical vocals. (Which is still considered a "no go" in pop and sometimes sounds a little unusual to some). But as you have already said: IT WORKS and the number of international fans from all areas of music is constantly increasing.

Woorim is there in spirit, since they have recorded him for background vocals. (Yes, that’s him in the backing track)
They each are representing different musical eras, their clothes, their backgrounds, their dancers… Hyungho has the Elvis outfit with the rock band, classic 50’s rock background and the modern street dancers, Mingyu has the ‘Prince Eric’ outfit with the stained glass and strings behind him and the dinner party waltzers, Doohoon has the elegant suit next to the piano with the newsies dancers. They definitely had a lot of fun with the visuals here.
Mingyu’s “Doll” like look is most definitely his classical training coming to the front (although he no longer considers himself an Opera singer/vocalist, the training remains).
I love that we get to hear so much more of Doohoon’s Baritone sound with Woorim gone, but I still think we will all be happiest when Woorim is back with them. Mingyu even goes on to say how much he misses Woorim (while tearing up) in the short interview they do after the performance.
They were given high praise before this performance, as this is the intro to the “King of Kings” special episode of the Immortal Songs contest and Forestella currently hold the record for most consecutive wins in the show’s history. They truly are Immortal Song’s “King of Kings”. ❤🌲💫

Watched this on your Patreon page unfiltered, it’s always nice to see the performers because their bodily movements typically reflect their vocals in some way. I grew up with Billy Joel, he is such a brilliant songwriter and performer. I loved the counter tenor’s vocal tone, it actually reminds me quite a bit of Mitch Grassi’s tone, light, but with roundness, body and clarity although I think his vibrato is generally faster than Mitch’s. Still, I hear a lot of similarity in their voices. All in all, a well-balanced performance by all 3 singers, lots of dynamics which helped keep the piece interesting. Enjoyed your breakdown as usual 😊

The Korean verbiage you see in the beginning which is typical in live performances are attributions to the artist and featured musicians (in this case, dance team, guitar soloist, grand pianist, etc.). You are right that there was no live harmonica. The pre-recorded bass you're hearing is in fact Koh Woo Rim who has been absent for the past year due to his mandatory military service (South Korea still has conscription since they're still technically at war). The other members who are much older have already fulfilled their active military duty and have continued in the interim as a trio.

A bit of context: If you look at the stage, not only are the singers dressed differently, but they do so to represent different timelines: Bae Doo Hoon (singing in a bar context), Cho Mingyu (dressed in a 17th century (?) costume, with the stained glass and strings behind him), and Kang Hyung Ho representing a rock star (with the neon lights, the guitars and drums, etc.). One of the things I love is that you nailed it in your R & A!
Ko Woorim is doing his mandatory military service and is about half-way through. I'm pretty sure that's his voice on the backing track, but from what I understand, he won't be appearing with them in person for another 9 months. I think his service is over sometime toward the end of May, 2025. In the interim, the other three are still performing. I must admit that I've not listened to many of this year's performances, but this is the first time I've heard the bass come in as a backing track. It's nice that he's present in some way, even though he can't be there in person.
BTW, Kang Hyung Ho actually IS a rock star: can't wait until you do some of his solo work as Pitta. Please start with his (Pitta's) newest version of Phantom of the Opera, which won him another award. It's in this video: ua-cam.com/video/x-o7o8OKGrM/v-deo.html. The actual song starts near the 4 minute mark, although if you turn on cc in English, you'll get some great context for it. I recommend watching the whole video for the context. It's really touching. The keyboardist is a keyboard genius. He is also the musical director for Pitta's tours this year.

November 9, 1973 -- just 20 days before my 24th birthday -- that's when Billy Joel released the song. I had been living in Soldotna, Alaska, but had been in an auto accident involving a two-year-old-ish moose (I didn't hit him, or the reverse, but I DID hit the only tree in the vicinity, while trying NOT to involve the two-ton-ish moose), and broke my right arm OFF (under the skin) at the wrist. Ultimately, while healing, I went back and stayed for a while with my mom and dad (and my first two kids) in Valdez, while my husband (who became my ex-husband a few years later) was commanding the National Guard unit, in Seward.
So...when this song came out, I was in a household with a great piano (bought by my dad, especially for my mom). Valdez still didn't have TV, but I was raised listening to the radio to hear new music. Mom and I heard the song for the first time, together, and she immediately began to pick up on it. You see, HER life had been pretty much spent as the "Piano Woman," though she BEGAN playing music on the violin and also played six or seven other instruments, as well.
I had gotten my right arm back into condition enough to play a (somewhat slower than usual) version of "The Birth of the Blues" (a great one for learning to reach at least an octave, while your arm is still in a restrictive position in a heavy cast). So the two of us spent quite a bit of "special" time playing and singing both of those songs (not at the same time, obviously), while my two little ones danced around the living room to the music and the family parakeet was also learning to sing a new song that my dad had been teaching him: "All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth." Seriously! So when Sammy heard us singing one of the other songs (and others by the wayside) and playing the piano, he just HAD to chime in with his own notes and rhythms that didn't match any of the songs on which we were concentrating. Sometimes we just had to put his cage cover on, so he'd drift off to sleep. Then Mom would shake her finger at Daddy and say to him, "See what you've done to him, Frank?!" Then we'd all get a good laugh.
So...yeah...rather strange memories regarding that song, but I will ALWAYS love it, Forestella did a totally WONDERFUL job with it, and your Reaction/Analysis was really GREAT. WOW!!! Thank you! 😀
