- Admiral William "Bill" McRaven addresses attendees during commissioning ceremony for the Navy's newest guided-missile destroyer USS MICHAEL MURPHY, Saturday Oct. 6, 2012 in New York.
The ship honors Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy, a Long Island native, who became the first American awarded the Medal of Honor (MOH) during the Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), when he was killed during an ambush in Afghanistan in 2005.
Navy Secretary Ray Mabus said the ship would guarantee that Murphy's story would be retold and U.S. Rep. Peter King heralded the young sailor for "unbridled courage."
The $1.1 billion warship, built at the Bath Iron Works in Maine, is to be based in Hawaii.
was honored to attend, Admiral McRaven spoke very well of Murph and his legacy....
Just got my commission as an Ensign from The Naval Academy. We have what is called Ship Selection. When it was my turn I had one ship I wanted to be on. When I saw the Michael Murphy on the board I ran for it. I'm home on leave now. I can't wait to walk up and ask permission to board this awesome ship.
its not until you hear what these special men do, that you truly realize how extraordinary they are-God Bless them all
That sailor at 3.37 should have 200 dollar fine.
Yo chill hes not being disrespectful or anything. If he was sleepinf yes but Sailors usually get like 4-5 hours of sleep especially when they are doing arduous work. Its normal for them to be tired
@@josephkingston9411 yooo you mean he didn’t get his 8 hour sleep in because he had extra work loads and now he’s allowed to yawn in the middle of a ceremonial speech before commissioning a ship built for a war hero who died for our country ?? Why did I join the army ?
He's just the typical dipshit you find in every crew. Every crew has them.
Why must I see Schumers face there
Shout out to the GS's in blues!!!
AWESOME God bless America.
Roger Clemons: He's got at least 1 BSM, with a device.. Hard to tell with the image, but it could be a "Valor" device.. Regardless, you don't just go to a combat zone, and "win" a BSM, or ANY medal.. Regardless, the Admiral has a Trident, which means he is a SEAL, so....................
Two BSMs. No "V" device for valor.
That Navy guy is just yawning @ 3:36
After that they made him do push-ups.... legends say, he’s still making push-ups
