    To protect the emblem you can brush on silicone over the emblem and over the skin color on the face. After you finish the deoxidation process you can easy peel off the silicon. I use the regular silicon for showers. Home Depot sell it for $2.00. There better thin grade silicone available in Walmart at the automobile department but is more expensive. The auto parts sells small amount of the thinner grade to put on thermostat gasket for less than Walmart but you get only a small portion which is perfect since you only use very little on each figure. Don't forget to wait for the silicone to fully cure before submerging. I heard there is also what is called a rub on latex mask. Which is used for scale models. But i haven't try it yet.

    I've always heard that some Joe paints will be damaged while others won't..... I wish there was an ultimate guide on which are safe and which aren't. All the Star Wars ones survive they say but joes will give you some surprises. I have yet to try any.

    Nice Video! The Salon 40 is definitely the choice now days. I'm surprised your Cobra symbol didn't fade with submerging it in the peroxide and salon 40. You had the issue with the skin tone on the head. Most people now use this with a jar and don't submerge so it doesn't ruin the rest of the paint. Out in the sun the fumes from the peroxide or Salon 40 will do enough to whiten him.

      It was a bit faded to begin with. Since making this I have learned that brushing a thin layer of petroleum jelly on the painted parts and other parts that you don't want to bleach can stop the extra bleaching. I hope this helps!!

    Cool video! I use peroxide to clean up orginal Star Wars figures all the time. I just bought an original Stormshadow, and he's just a little on the off-white side. I'm worried about soaking him in peroxide though, because 1) I don't have an extra head as replacement, and 2) I've noticed that peroxide causes red emblems on the Star Wars figures to fade to yellow! Peroxide does a brilliant job whitening figures if you leave them to soak in a ziploc bag (or clear glass mason jar) under a uv lamp or outside in the sun for a few days). You only left your figure in peroxide for a few hours. Other than the fleshtone around his eyes, did you notice his flesh turning more yellow? The red cobra fading a little? Just wanted to know. Thanks.

    • @COLLECTIONCONNECTION
      @COLLECTIONCONNECTION  7 років тому

      Loston Wallace the red was still perfect. I noticed the paint around his eyes fade a bit as well as the flesh color in his elbow area. If I were to do this again I would get a paint brush and brush the salon care 50 on the head and arms, sparing the parts that I don't want to fade. I would still soak the rest. I hope this helps!

    • @PersephoneMilneaux
      @PersephoneMilneaux 5 років тому

      It's done often... honest sellers disclose RetroBrighting, others don't (but you can usually tell - especially on Storm Shadow by how pink / faded the Cobra emblem ends up appearing as well as the eyes. The good thing against the scammers is that just the gasses of RB/H2O2 in the process will fade everything so it's hard to hide to the trained eye).

    40 Volume isn't 40% H202... it's about 12%. (30 Volume is roughly 9%, 20 Volume = 6%, and 10 Volume is 3% which is probably the concentration you started with the liquid bottle). Also, the glass in most consumer-grade mirrors will absorb so much of the UV light that it is an unnecessary step, you're better off skipping it and rotating the pieces (or agitating the baggie) a few times through the process).

      That is indeed the main problem. If you're a loose collector like me and you display your figures in the open, even in a closed cabinet, away from sunlight, the yellowing will come back. So, in my experience, it only works as a temporary solution for most figures. It might last longer if you store it away in a closed ziplock in a box, but where's the fun in that. You can of course repeat the process, but I would advise to be careful with that. Aside from the whitening of colored parts you don't want to whiten, I've also noticed the plastic material becomes more brittle. My Countdown v1 is an example of this. While the process works best for white, it also works for other colors (lightblue of Shipwreck or Shockwave are examples). But in some cases, it doesn't seem to work at all, even with white. Ice Viper v1 is an example of this. Not much luck on the Steel Brigade blue either.
