    1:48 - If you're above 200lbs, that dropper post is going to bend seat rails due to the narrow width of the bottom seat rail clamp. I went through this with my TransX on 3 saddles (two chromo WTBs). It would bend from regular riding unless you were over cautious when going over bumpy, rooty terrain. I recognized its style right away. I also discovered for about $15, you can order a top/bottom clamp replacement for a compatible redesigned Kitsuma that will add another 10mm+ to the rail clamps and give way more support to the rear of the rails. All of this was figured out after I bought a $200 OneUp thats already using a wider clamp. Now I have a spare dropper. It makes a world of difference on the rails, especially if the top "overbites" the rails with how it basically sets it up for bending. I'm not dogg'n the post because I've never had mechanical issues with it. The TransX post actuation itself has been great and never failed, but I consider that seat clamp a design flaw.

    I have ridden a Marshall all season this year and I'm approaching 1000km on it. I agree with the critiques in this review, the bike is pretty heavy and the 35 silver fork is the weakest part speced. Swapping the fork to a brand new take off RockShox Revelation 150mm addressed both problems by dropping the weight by 770g (1.7 lbs) and gives the front end a WAY more supple feel. The Debonair spring compared to the SoloAir is like night and day. I picked up the Revelation for $500 (CAD) at the end of the summer and I sold the 35 silver for $300, so only cost me $200 to upgrade. Going tubeless and switching the DHF/DHR II for a Dissector/Aggressor saved about another pound of weight and improves the rolling efficiency dramatically. I'd recommend these changes for most riders on a Marshall. Find a take off RockShox Revelation, Pike select, Fox Rythm 34 or Marzocchi Z2 and sell the stock fork. It should only cost $200-300 and will move the bike from a beginner to intermediate ride for minimal investment.

      Thats funny, I just ordered a Marshall for 2022, and I have a Revelation to put on it. What was the benefit of changing the tires? Were you able to sell the takeoff tires as well? I assume you'd get the weight advantage by just going tubeless with the stock tires as well?

    • @jasonsheridan6222
      @jasonsheridan6222 2 роки тому +1

      @@robinturner139 Adding the revelation will be a nice improvement over the decent but really heavy 35 silver. As for the tires, the main reason I switched was to decrease the rolling resistance, but the Aggressor + Dissector tires saves about 1/3 lbs of rotating mass which is nice. You can go tubeless with the stock tires as well to save almost a pound of weight and all the benefits tubeless brings. The DHR and DHF provide excellent grip, but you can really feel the loss of energy due to rolling resistance. If you ride more aggressively down hill just keep the stock tires as they do provide slightly more cornering and braking traction than the dissector and aggressor combo I'm using. Yes I sold the original tires after some light use which covered most of the cost of the new rubber. The DHF and DHR are well respected and in high demand so I sold them for $75 CAD each.

      Very truth! But the spec is along with a price point. Devinci made a low price bike and ready for upgrades. If they put revelation the bike would at the price level of Django and I guess it wasnt the idea.

    • @jasonsheridan6222
      @jasonsheridan6222 2 роки тому +1

      @@bikestacjakozioa667 Agreed, the $500 difference between the base model Django and the Marshall is mostly due to the lower spec fork and wheels. In early spring 2021 I picked up a Marshall for $2600 CAD, but even now at $3000 (edit: $3400 as of 2022) it still represents a solid value trail bike. I would still recommend upgrading the fork fairly quickly as it makes the front and back end a better match in capability. Plus the sooner you sell the original fork the more you'll get for it. I would have bought the Deore/base Django if it was had been available at the start of the year. Actually trying to find a Django last winter was how I found out about the Marshall.

    I still dont understand the whole “bite point” thing. Going from my 4 piston Srams to my 4 piston XTs, I felt so much more confident braking last second and railing corners. The on off switch feel really helps my cornering speed, and the Srams just feel weak and spungy.

    • @SpencerBaum
      @SpencerBaum 3 роки тому +2

      It's not that the bite point changes how it feels, it's that it changes where during the lever pull the brakes activate (when the bite point happens)

    • @halfgeek1394
      @halfgeek1394 3 роки тому

      @@SpencerBaum I have never noticed that before, and I've ridden quite a few Shimano brakes. If you ride SRAM brakes a lot, there is a much different feel, and there is definitely a physical shift you feel when you engage higher end Shimano brakes (the "bite point"). If you are used to the more linear pull and sponge feel of the SRAM, then yes, the bite point will feel weird and almost unsteady, but very confident once you hit it.
      Maybe the bleed or type of pads affect this feel as well, since some Shimano pads are known to rattle around in the calipers. What I am trying to say is unless you measure the length of pull of the levers, you really can't feel a change in bite point, unless you have air in the system. SRAM biased reviewers will also probably find these brakes strange in the way they activate, but I love the confidence they give. I'll take a "shifting bite point" over feeling like I need to brake as soon as I see the corner, rather than right before entering it.

    • @SpencerBaum
      @SpencerBaum 3 роки тому +3

      @@halfgeek1394 I own both shimano xt brakes and a set of sram code rsc brakes and really like them both but they definitely do have a different feel. I personally will take shimano brakes over any low tier sram brakes, but if the sram brakes have the swing link lever system (any brake that has s in the name such as code rSc) then I prefer those to shimano brakes. I have two different pairs of shimano xt brakes currently and both of them experience the wandering bite point phenomenon. From what I know it really only happens with the newest generation of shimano brakes and It only happens on really long steep descents (over a mile or so) I'll be braking and then I'll let go of the brakes and when I go to grab the brakes again, they engage way earlier in the stroke. But after a second or so it goes back to normal. Also, it's not a bleed issue. I've bled them myself and had them bled by a shop and it still does it. While it's really not that big of an issue, it shouldn't be an issue at all for top of the line brakes. My codes on the other hand, have been absolutely perfect for the year and a half that I've had them

    • @halfgeek1394
      @halfgeek1394 3 роки тому +2

      @@SpencerBaum I haven't ridden anything "S", but maybe it is all about a personal preference thing. I simply brake less with Shimanos, and require less finger strength to actually engage them. It could really be a difference in how you engage the levers. I slowly pull the levers until I feel the bite and then lay on them, it's kind of a natural feel I have. SRAMs I have to use like car brakes, slowly apply it and then keep going and going and going.
      I can see how if you are more aggressive with the initial pull, SRAM brakes will be more consistent. I try not to overthink this, but my first ride on my new bike with a brand new set of XT brakes led to me going down a trail much faster than on a similar bike with Code RE brakes. They've always had that mechanical "clunk" feeling, I just think maybe it's a little lighter now?

    • @SpencerBaum
      @SpencerBaum 3 роки тому +2

      @@halfgeek1394 I totally agree with you about how the brakes feel and how you engage them. I'm pretty sure I do the same. From my experience, the S brakes have a much more pronounced bite point like shimano brakes while still having the post bite modulation which Is why I really enjoy them.

    Obviously Divinci doesn't want to canniballize its other lines but should offer a better trim level
    play land
    The SLX brakes, well.. those are supposed to be "top end" maybe non-4 pot brakes... more Shimano's fault than Divinci's
    Also Divinci has a tendency to overbuild their frames... whether alu or carbon, the Wilson, Troy, Marshall that I recall from the past were always chunk AF, but hey... Canadian build and reliable? I'd take that
    I have a 1st gen Marshall which was a 27.5+ short travel - 110 (maybe 115ish) rear, 120 front with a Reba... Alu with a GX build and a monarch r rear. The way the DW split pivot works, I feel is perfectly fine with a medium tune basic monarch damper... it just is way less active than Maestro or FSR, so you just don't need to worry nearly as much about damping/rebound.
    Once I replaced the Reba with a 130 Pike and put on some Rocket Ron 2.8s... this bike absolutely smashes.

    Seems like quite a nice bike, with money spent and saved in most of the right places (I'd appreciate a Deluxe Select+ when spending $2K+), but it can't help but remind me of the excellent value of Polygon and Marin, because this bike is specced almost identically to their lower end Siskiu T7 and Rift Zone 2 (only real difference is the RS 35 Silver instead of RS Recon Silver), which both cost under $2K, while the Siskiu T8 and RZ3 are both noticeably better specced for only slightly more.

Its easiliy noticable that canyon for same price gives you better spec at the first sight. You can be sure that all that you cant see is more of a crap side :/ In Devinci the most important thing its a solid, well made frame as a heart of a bike. The components its the rest that any manufacturer provide depending on the final price.

    I’ve had this bike for about a month now. I’m loving it for the most part, but it does feel a bit bulky, especially on the climbs. I also just realized that my bike shop sold me a large frame, and the recommended height range on the sticker is 5’10-6’2. I am 5’9. I’m wondering how different the frame sizes are and if it matters that much for someone like me who is right on the line. My last bike was a GT from the 2000’s with 26-inch wheels, so maybe this was going to be a rough transition regardless. I also haven’t tried the lockout yet, so maybe I ought to give that a try (even though this video didn’t feature it).
    On downhill routes this bike is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced 👍

I have XT 8120s on my current bike and have not had a single instance of wandering bite point so it looks like the issue is fixed on newer batches. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of UA-cam. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!

      Yes the frame is welded in Quebec and assembled there. Hard to say how far the chain goes down for frame creation, source of aluminum, how the frame is formed and such. They say the frames on this model are made in their factory.

    This is the second review where I have heard this bike described as “not the bike you want to take on long days.” Is this simply because of the weight, or are there other factors that lead to this comment?
    I’m looking for a good trail bike for 50-100 mile rides, but I want more travel than a XC bike. Where I’m riding is mostly a lot of elevation change along some pretty chunky downhill sections.
    Besides the Ibis Ripley, are there any others that might accommodate this riding style well?
    Thanks for all the content!

    Am I really the only person on earth who didnt have any issues with shimano brakes? I have xt 4 pots, 2021 model, rear brake isnt even bled that well, never had any wandering bitepoint, maybe once and it was only almost noticable. never had any of this "oh it might pull to the lever and then the next time it wont".

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 3 роки тому

      It was an issue with 2019 and 2020 model brakes. I experienced it a few times on my previous bike with 2020 spec SLX, but only when the brakes were really cold. I have 2021 XTs on my current bike and have not had it happen once on the current setup.

      I think a lot of north american riders like to death grip their brakes. coming into MTB from a moto background I definitely prefer the firmer feel and lighter effort of Shimano brakes. The bite point issue popped up on 2019 and 2020 spec SLX and XT brakes, usually when the brakes were really cold, pretty sure it's fixed now as my 2021 spec XTs have not experienced it. The bite point issue at its worst was still probably not as bad as the typical inconsistency of SRAM guides.

      So do you say it’s a bad thing?
      I really like 66deg headtube angles!
      My 2016 Nukeproof Mega has 66deg and it can plow through everything if it wants, but still has enough maneuverability to use it as a „daily driver“ for nice and chill mtb tours through the forest.
      I tested newer enduro bikes with much slacker angles and they aren’t much fun if you use them for anything else besides steep descents and rock gardens..
      To me 66deg is somewhat of the sweetspot between descending ability and maneuverability!

      @@rolux4853 bang on the money there dude! I ride a 2017 Kona Process 111 and it has a 67.5 degree head angle, occasionally I wish it was slightly slacker but only on really steep stuff. A slightly steeper head angle makes for a much more playful and agile ride on flowing single track and is fine for all but the steepest downs so long as you ride it with confidence.
