I was gonna say, your probably losing a ton of material that way...but it is all good time in the wild my friend's ,it's really what it is all about after all...happy panning!........
If you're on the river down below the canyon, be very careful, as people die every year in the river due to the undertow. I lost a childhood friend, there. He drowned and a relative tried to save him and also drowned. My partner is still haunted by a "floater" she saw as a child after someone drowned and hadn't been found, yet. She grew up in Bakersfield and kept her horse down by the river... Rode her horse along the river. Even though there are signs warning people and telling them to stay out, we watched a family group playing and swimming in the river, even where there were eddies and ripples from the undertow. When it gets up into the 90's-100's, people will always be going out to Lake Ming and Hart Park and get in the water to cool down... and some will get sucked under and die.
Glad to hear it. Now that the river is way higher like you mentioned in another comment, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out w/ regard to where we can sluice or the newly-created deposits of gold we find. :) I'm excited for this season! Keep us posted.
I appreciate the compliment! :) As for the water level, I haven't been that high up the river in awhile. Because it's hovering around the 400 cfs mark, I have to imagine that it's relatively shallow although in the Kern, that doesn't mean much. Be careful w/ the faster moving water wherever you happen to end up!
Awesome Thank you, I'll have to take a look at it in a few weeks. Ya I'd been warned a few times about that river so I stay out. Talked with the owner of the Mine Shaft once and he told me about a few interesting things they had dredged up.
Here's where I get my info about the level of the lower Kern River, which tells me a lot about its relative speed, depth, etc. www.californiawhitewater.com/rivers/lower-kern/flows/
Hello there... Just met a man out by the river while my gf and I were collecting rocks... James Hunter was his name... This is an interesting hobby... What is the location on this video? I see some nice rocks I would like to gather for the mrs... Great video btw 👍
Just head on over to Hart Park right outside of Bakersfield, CA and park on Kiddyland Drive near its intersection w/ River Road. Walk east towards the Kern River and you can't miss it. Look for the island out in the river for a point of reference. And thank you for the compliment! Making videos is my pleasure! :)
That’s a great question, and I can’t think of a single reason why a person shouldn’t use one. Given my options last year, I opted instead for a concentrating table due to the fact that I’m very visual and the table’s relatively large surface area allows me to easily inspect my cons. A person would be hard pressed to do the same w/ a spiral wheel. However, the spiral wheel does offer an element of automation that is sorely lacking in my concentrating table. We each must identify their own personal criteria for gold acquisition, pros vs. cons for any given device, etc., in order to decide upon our gold cleanup-systems at home and mine just happened to align w/ the concentrating table from Royal Manufacturing. Maybe I’ll look into a spiral wheel though, at some point in the future. Thanks for your question and keep ‘em coming! :)
I wish I could say "Yes" to EVERYBODY. Truth be told, I'm so busy w/ my current gold-prospecting buddy (who is also my business-partner) and work that I have very little time outside of that. I appreciate the inquiry though. Maybe you could attend some meetings w/ miners in the area and ask around? There's at least 2 clubs in Bakersfield, alone! :)
Thank you for the reply. I’m glad to see someone’s doing videos on the kern river. Its inspiring to see what can be found. Can you tell me the names of the local clubs, maybe I can become a member. I will be following you on UA-cam and look forward to seeing more vids.
I found some links that might prove useful. Although some are from out of town, I understand that they still like to prospect in the Kern County area. www.kerncountyprospectors.org/ www.goldprospectors.org/Community/Chapter-Map/Chapter-Home/ChapterId/BAKECA taftprospectors.com/ www.oc49er.com/index.html I'm a member only of the KC Prospectors Club and can't vouch for the others, but that's what I found in a quick search of the web. Hope this helps! :)
Slower my friend that build up from going to fast is letting gold fall out and over, this was hard to watch, you threw all your hard work back into the water,I know it's all for fun but I have friends that have gone up there and made up to 500 bucks a day
But we must ask ourselves “Why?” or “Why not?” I’m constantly looking for new or better ways to accomplish the same task. Some of them aren’t feasible, and some of them aren’t as fun, either. lol Based on how my sluice operates, I’ve deemed it not just acceptable but ESSENTIAL that I use my hands to help it along as I’m processing material to find gold. I can do things that my sluice would never be able to do on its own such as breaking up clay or other less cooperative materials, moving some of the rocks out of the way faster after being cleaned, or just helping the material stratify on the bed-portion of the sluice. I’m convinced, therefore, that helping my fluid-bed sluice to both separate and extract the precious metal/s I’m looking for is important enough to not only mention, but to actually do out in the field. To each their own though. That’s just my two cents. Heavy pans, my friend! :)
No permit is required. :) And since I only go to the spots I've covered in my videos basically, there's where I go to meet up w/ my business partner. I point out my favorite spot in my earlier videos. I'm sure w/ a metal detector, your choice of where to go would be different seeing as you're not sluicing, also. Good luck w/ your metal-detecting in the meantime!
Gold Phenoms nice. I was looking to take a pan out to kern and give it a try. Not looking for anyones spots but any advice on where you can go like public places and such? Maybe you could show on a map some areas where you know you can pan. Love the vids
The gold there looks is too fine for a metal detector. Better off in a area where there are gold nuggets. You will need a metal detector that is made to detect small nuggets and handle the mineralized ground.
If you go to Hart Park just a few miles to the northeast of Bakersfield, you can park you car and walk a short distance north to the Kern River. There should be plenty of space there in which to pan. Good luck and let us know how you do! :)
Actually I'm not. lol :) You're probably thinking this footage was captured at Delonegha Bridge which has similar topography. (P.S. I'm also a member of the KC Prospector's club at the time of this comment on 7-7-19, and naturally, I'm familiar w/ their claims, including the one at Delonegha Bridge. I may have to do a video at that location soon.) In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed the video above. Heavy pans, brother!
I can appreciate what you guys are saying about going too fast. We've all lost gold out the back end of our sluices and I'm certainly not immune to that. This particular sluice has a fluid-bed though, and can handle an incredible 8-12 buckets per HOUR. Even on the slow end, that's one bucket every 7.5 minutes. In my video, you can see that the grizzly is processing the material well and with some assistance from me for the rocks that occasionally got caught in it, I went through my bucket in a reasonable time frame. Once inside the holding compartment of the sluice (where further processing takes place), I trust this item to expel the lighter materials on pace with me shoveling them in and the proof is in the pudding. I get gold when I do my cleanout/s. :) Don't get wrong, I'm sure some was lost but no one can get it all. Maybe I should do a video where I slow things down a LOT and see if there is any significant change in my take per bucket? If I was to make such a video, what part of the process do you think I should really focus on slowing down? Thanks for any additional thoughts you may have on this. :)
That blue stuff is supposed to be deteriorated bedrock. You are on the right path.
Gold mining on speed! This dude is a trip going way to fast! Loss is the word of the day!
putting that dirt in their way to fast no time for the material to process
I was gonna say, your probably losing a ton of material that way...but it is all good time in the wild my friend's ,it's really what it is all about after all...happy panning!........
Some of my biggest flakes have come from Clay layers imbedded in cemented gravels.
Glad your back,and well

I would have a 4ft slice , ridges, screen, with good mats to catch as much gold as possible.
You can't even see the rocks anymore or set up a sluice because the river is deep right now at Hart Park
I've been prospecting at Hart Park the past mont and found lots of flakes. I found some good spots
Glad to hear it. Now that the river is way higher like you mentioned in another comment, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out w/ regard to where we can sluice or the newly-created deposits of gold we find. :) I'm excited for this season! Keep us posted.
Great stuff
Cool vid mate just subscribed to your channel😀
Always good gold there me and another two guys dug most of that big round hole there
That gold is deposited from cottonwood creek
Good video man, i havent seen many of them on the Kern. Do you happen to know if the water level closer to the dam is about as low as where you are.
I appreciate the compliment! :) As for the water level, I haven't been that high up the river in awhile. Gold Phenoms thank you so much for the info... Looking forward to finding these beautiful rocks... Have a great day...
whats up buddy move to the right finding really good gold. vic
Swirl your pan with black sand ,it makes it easier.
Well you found out why that guy left that hole.
Why doesn’t anyone use a spiral wheel to separate the fine stuff?
That’s a great question, and I can’t think of a single reason why a person shouldn’t use one. Would you be interested in extra help. I live in Bakersfield NW area i’ve been looking for someone to pan the river with

I always told to not put your hands in to the sluice box
But we must ask ourselves “Why?” or “Why not?”

one bucket not bad
Can you tell me how to find fossil
I wish I knew a surefire way to do so. Fossil hunting sounds fun but it's not my area of expertise, unfortunately.
Hola i have a metal detector i am going to that park do i need any type of permite of sorts. Where do u guys meet..

Welcome to my channel!
You need more panning practice. Who knows how much you threw out
Your on the Kern county club claim

Way to fast .
