    That was the weirdest knock-off of wd-40 I've ever seen and I've run across many. As for the welds, those are. Mostly for mig or tig. Sure you can use them with stick, but unless your skill is 8/10 or better it would not pass union standards.

      I can almost guarantee anyone welding for a union with a tig torch is walking their cup unless otherwise impossible. As for mig welding, unless the material is VERY pre heated weaving is actually going to make your weld weaker because of a lack of penetration. Every weld that was woven and gone through destructive tests I've administered have failed due to a lack of penetration, the problem is you cannot keep the material hot enough for long enough to guarantee uniformity along the length of the weld.

    A couple of those looked too hot and widened out, and one was built too high. I suppose either could be useful depending on a particularly unusual situation… but I usually weld between two different patterns that are a happy medium between all of those - which are 1st a simple two steps forward, one step back basically in a line. Or 2nd pattern if the weld needs to fill in a little extra width or get a bit hotter for deeper penetration I use a circular weave while sorta keeping that similar overlap to the first pattern. I love arc welding because when you have the amps just right you can actually push the electrode down a bit while your welding and feel the molten metal penetrating into the base material, sorta like mixing it up as you go to get that perfect bond.

      Careful, as you "push the electrode down a bit" too much, you can also start dragging slag down into the molten puddle and entrapping slag inclusions. Weakens the weld, and bad news for you if your weld is subject to inspection by UT or RT.

    • @prdprdprdprdprdel
      @prdprdprdprdprdel Рік тому

      Sounds nice.. Welding is not the main thing we did, so we had a grand total of one type of electrodes for everything from sheet metal to I beams.. So most of it was welding metal too thin with a rod too thick and trying to add material as fast as possible to catch up to the hole that's inevitably forming around the weld because anything below 60A sticks and doesn't work with the setup.. Also, welding through thick paint/zinc coating, because we apparently didn't have the 5 minutes to grind it off... Nothing like the smell of burning zinc in the morning..

    Во всех случаях просто согнал весь металл в кучу, технология шва не только в рисунке, но и в растоянии проходов между собой, а ещо добавлю что эти швы не всё под один электрод, а под разные размеры электродов. Дофига можно прочитать в интернете.

  • @jackreisewitz7219

    The weave pattern used is dependent on the configuration and position of the weld you are trying to make. Puddle control is always the primary consideration. Understanding this is what makes a welder competent. If you're getting undercut, or slag inclusions, you're doing it wrong.
    As an inspector, if I had my choice, if a welder who was trying to get his qual came to me with a test sample with any undercut, I'd fail him right then. He's already shown me he's either incompetent, or doesn't care about his work. But the code permits some.
    Nevertheless, he's already shown me what kind of welder he will be.

      and that is?? I'm genuinely curious as I didn't think the amount of splatter (not sure of correct term) while welding was normal? were his settings incorrect or is that normal? total welding newb here but watched lots of videos and seemed like a lot of splatter lol

    • @jackreisewitz7219
      @jackreisewitz7219 Рік тому +1

      Spatter is governed by many factors. I wish I could give you a concise, black and white answer , but it just doesn't work that way.
      That's not to say that you can't diminish the problem.
      Welding is a talent, a skill not everyone has. It is a gift. Some people become artists at it, and take pride in their work. They're the ones that I value.
      Some people are just doing it for a paycheck. They take no real pride in it. "Just give me the money, and don't tell me I've got defects in my weld!". If their weld looks like a goose flew over and crapped on the weld joint, they're content with that.
      I used to weld, too - before I became an inspector. I can tell the two kinds of welders apart.
