    He didn't specifically address this article, but he did an interesting dive into the topic.

    I really like that analogy of "waterskiing vs scuba diving", it's a very apt way of describing the kind of reading we do in our life vs the reading we do for books.
    I hadn't seen other hot takes about this article (other than mine) and now I'm wishing I'd seen the one about mammoth hunting ancestors, it sounds hilarious!

      I came across your video 3 months ago and you were one of the few videos that were insightful about the topic!
      Gonna be fair to mammoth guy. His argument was men crave fiction because men crave to hunt and seek excitement. Still a wild take so I made the mammoth example for comedy’s sake.

    Video games, television, sports and music have for sure taken over. Hip hop is where a lot of writers go if it's not working on a game, shows or movies. I'm still trying to write novels myself and as a guy I hope other guys enjoy them, because my stuff is different in a great way, just gotta refine it.

    I don't read anymore. I don't think there is any fiction being made for men anymore.

      @CBSmith-js9yl I've heard that men are being shut out of publishing. It really seems that way. Fiction is all feminist nonsense now. I have no interest.

      Sci- fi is great. Political thrillers, spy novels, military fiction, historical fiction. Also it doesn't have to be recent. There is an ocean of literature written by men from the previous centuries. I like Herman Hesse and Dostoyevsky.

    • @Dragon-Believer
      @Dragon-Believer 11 днів тому

      @elliotdance7790 it isn't men who have a problem. It's the publishing industry. Go woke go broke.
      I've read all the old stuff I want to read already. I have other things to do. I read Lord of the Rings when i was 8.

    I feel like that’s the kind of question that doesn’t have one particular answer. Off the top of my head, the way we adultify boys at an early age may cause them to see novels as childish, but that doesn’t explain the interest in fantasy or sci-fi. Another thought is that reading novels is associated with women and society deems womanly activities as inferior, so men avoid doing such, unless it is a more “masculine” forms of fiction like fantasy and sci-fi. Again, there’s likely multiple factors involved, but these are the two that crossed my mind.

    • @CBSmith-js9yl

      @@pseudodidact3956 I’m gonna respectfully disagree on your take of adultifying young boys at an early age unless you and I are just thinking of different things and we re talking pass each other.
      One of my sources brings up how when more women read that’s when the attitude towards reading (especially genres popular by women) became negative.
      But Yes, multiple factors that I would not be able to fit in a 5 min video or a puff piece article but I think that professor from that Dazed article hit a decent nail on the head with hustle culture.

    • @pseudodidact3956
      @pseudodidact3956 13 днів тому

      @ Yeah, I like the hustle culture one too. I’m not big on my adultification take either, cause it doesn’t explain all the data. Plus it might just be a regional thing, since I’m from the south and boys here are expected to do physical activities and not sit around.

      Women read smut. We all know what women read. Acting like it's an intellectual activity is absurd.
