  • Szymons Setup is quite a unique one as much as the resulting sound is. He is playing a bass by Charles Quenoil in 1945 and handmade synthetic strings by the company Sonores (Gerold Genssler). The bow is a custom made model by Boris Fritsch.
    Doublebass: Szymon Marciniak
    Piano: Jongsuk Kim
    Recorded in studiobörne 45, Berlin

    Absolutely woderful performance here once again from Szymon. Bottesini can sometimes sound rather mechanical but when played as here one realises how beautiful it can be. (I found the camera work somewhat distracting).

      Tempera re the camera work, it was a creative approach and more interesting than just having a static camera though! Maybe a bit less movement with you changing the angle of view as the musical phrase changes and breaths perhaps next time?😀

      @@Bassman4581 Thanks for the feedback David. Actually thats about my conclusion from that project. For the Cerny (did you see that?) I am pretty happy though. Its really hard to judge from the small camera screen especially because the digital stabilizer crops a little too so every movement feels much bigger and every closeup is too close. But yes, "next time" ;-) - Jan-Ole

      @@Temperastrings HI, I just watched the Cerny. Wonderful piece and playing of course and I wasn't even aware of the camera which is an excellent result. I could just enjoy the music. Bravo.

    I keep wondering if a certain bass soloist might be interested in trying your strings, but I don’t think she tinkers much, I get the impression she’s plain old spirocore solo and pops rosin and doesn’t have much interest in experimenting (and yet gets amazing results, with incredible projection and range of tone colors). I could be wrong though. (Actually Szymon knows her at least a bit and she plays the same kind of bass.) But I keep hearing such great things about the strings that I maybe hope she’ll give them a try - maybe the results could be even better?

      I might know who you are talking about :) well theres always a "right time" for rethinking. Would help a lot to take another step for musical expression and possibilies. Lets see...

    • @Pensivata
      @Pensivata 3 роки тому

      A cello cannot play this piece. It doesn't have low enough notes. Not to mention the inferior sound ;-)

    • @MrKermitt71
      @MrKermitt71 3 роки тому

      @@Pensivata I know. It was a joke ! But I see that this very difficult piece is played exclusively on the high register of the bass. But for me, that's not "bass" ;)

    • @Pensivata
      @Pensivata 3 роки тому

      @@MrKermitt71 It still wouldn't be playable on a cello - because - even tho you are correct in saying most is played in the high register - there are some low notes the cello could not play, rendering the piece impossible for the cello. Bottesini, after all, was a bass player, and he wrote this pice for the bass.. however, I like your playful wit, you can still come to my parties ;-)
