Always great to see the top pros do beginner tutorials. Well taught, confident and competent beginners, are the future of any sport... After all is said and done, that's where we all started. Well done Dave! Keeping it real and keeping it Fun ;0)
Absolutely, the more people we get into the sport the better it is for everyone as then hopefully more parks and places to ride will open up :) Cheers :)
Though I’ve been wakeboarding behind the boat for years, I went to my first cable park this past week. They had us sit start and first go I face planted. I blame that one on the left boot, which I realized was completely coming unstitched when I got back to the dock. Second go…faceplant. Third and all after…no problem. However, it seemed much harder than a boat start. Just as you said, the pull from the water is much harder. The cable is a sudden full speed pull…not like the boat which is gradually moving from zero to pull speed. I watched one of the kids do a sliding start and thought that has to be easier. I never did try it, but I will next time!
Finally did it went to a cable Park yesterday had a freaking blast ! You are right everyone was really supportive and I hit nearly every obstacle. Even got a 180 off the big ramp. Probably would not have done it without your support
I went to thorpe lakes today and couldnt stand up they showed us the hard way. Gutted ! Im going back again and trying standing up going in looks easier. good vid bro
Christian Reflogal no he isnt it differs per person, if you are new to board sports it doesn’t even matter because you will get used to it. Just look at it like learning to ride switch you basically started over again but just with another foot in front...
It seems like most people ride goofy on wake. Only people with previous board sports experience who have riden regular before keep it that way. That's my experience.
Love it, gona share the s.... out of it. Want to get more lads into wake boarding, myself only licked blood 2 years ago and was on the board a handful of times. So build up tutorial videos would be awesome. Thanks David
I always like watching your tutorials, maybe can you do a tutorial on how to get big air from the ground like your doing a flat raley but focus on the jump part because I’m having trouble with that
How long does it usually take for complete beginners to be able to get on the water and get going? I went for the first time today & didn’t really see any progress throughout the day, despite good help from the instructors. It looks like a lot of fun once you’re able to do it but it was such a bummer that I fell from the start every time.
Did you ever go again and manage it? I went earlier in the year and failed to get up for over an hour, although some of that was spent knee boarding. One of my friends managed it on the 3rd attempt (he snowboards). Another managed it once, but not again before the end of the session. People just seem to get it at completely different rates. Great fun though and I'll definitely be back. Can't let the challenge of it beat me!
Mind to share ur equipment and outfit? Do u have a video talking abt boards, biddings and life jackets? I am looking to buy everything. I am in the US. Suggestions?
At my cable park they teach you to do a sit start because they think it’s the easiest haha so when I’m going there in the summer I’m going to ask if they could let me do a stand slide start
I’m a lake girl all day but I’ve never tried skiing or wakeboarding but I have a 3 yr old and I want her to get into some water sports rather than softball or something that keeps us away from the lake. Soooo…at almost 40 I’m gonna give this shit a try. Lawd…I’m saying my prayers as I type this. 🤣 Maybe I should get some liquid courage first. Lol
Hi David. I had my first two wb sessions at a cable park in Cheshire last week and while I was getting up I couldn't get to grips with using heel and toe for directional control. I have a hernia and have 10kg more weight on my left foot than my right. Is there any way I can compensate for this when riding .Perhaps by positioning the board differently. I used to water-ski quite proficiently and felt that the cable wasn't pulling me up fast enough as the board was dragging through the water. Any tips you can give me before my next lesson?
Hi David big fan, you have got me into wake boarding and I have a question about bindings. I think I’m going to buy 2019 O'Brien GTX Wakeboard Bindings. And since they are O’Brien I thought to go straight to your comment section! Would you generally recommend these?
Hey Toby, Yes I do of course! So naturally I'm going to recommend the board I ride (O'Brien SOB). But being completely neutral my main suggestions/ features to try get on your board are. 1. Get a flex board as it's far better for cable than the traditional stiff boards. 2. Try get one with some sort of channel on the underside. This will give you a little more grip than a completely flat board :)
hahahah good question. I think it's hard to compare them as they're quite different as one is a 2 tower and the other is a 5 tower cable. I will say the atmosphere and vibe at ballyhass is the best in the world! But the new cable also has a tremendous vibe!
Thank you very much for this Dave! This is very useful but there are not many tutorials covering the basic stuff so this is fantastic! I have never wakeboard in the UK and looking into try it when I go back. Is there any chance you can tell us a few places in the UK that would be good for a beginner? Cheers!
Awesome Bella, glad you liked the video. I actually realised that too so thought I'd put a bit of focus into them. Yesss, there's loads of amazing places in the UK. It all depends where you go. If you're a beginner I would advice going for a set on a 2 tower cable instead of a full 5 tower cable as it will be easier to learn. Theres a great website here which show you all the cables so you can pick one near wheerever you'll be www.wakescout.com
@@DavidOCaoimhWakeboarder you are the best Dave! The website is fantastic! Thank you so much :) I absolutely love watching your vids. Keep up the good work! x
I’ve been watching your videos for a while now. Great videos. The doubles ride with Shaun Murray has been my favorite so far. However, I got up on my wakeboard for the first few times last week and I have a few very basic questions. How do I break the board free to initiate a surface 180 or power slide with fins? Should I use fins at all in the beginners bracket?
RogueLegend using fins is completely up to you it’s different for everyone and it depends on your board I ride a Valhalla and the channels are all I need but I used to ride a ronix that had no channels so fins were a must or I would slide around to much and also for 180s you should reduce the line tension and it will make it so much easier
Thanks for the tip. I will definitely give it a try. However, I’m riding a Connelly pure 141 with bolt on skater 1.9” fins. It does have molded fins also. I took the fins off this past weekend and it’s a lot more slippery. It’s a little more difficult trying to stay on edge but it breaks traction from the water super easy for surface slides and 180’s which is all I can do right now.
Nehemyah Berdugo im at the some point. I can hit the kicker easily and i can do a backflip on the trampoline. Just to scared to do a tantrum because im scared to land on my face when not making the full rotation
hahha sweet. So if it's just the 'balls' you need then watch my video on 'how to raley' - hopefully that should help lol. But also I think if you're confident in your level then that should give you enough to try one. Just make sure you do it safely :)
I dont understand why they give us the hardest lauching method, cause i have been trying mins but no luck, asked to be standing and did it straight away.

Why my first start was the sitting one? The trainers said it was easiest

Try start in the water behind the boat
Yes
👍🏻👍🏻
Love you but could u make a video explaining how to build up the balls to do a tantrum
Nehemyah Berdugo use a crafting table
Nehemyah Berdugo im at the some point. I can hit the kicker easily and i can do a backflip on the trampoline. Just to scared to do a tantrum because im scared to land on my face when not making the full rotation

Nehemyah Berdugo i still have not tried. A lot of find facing the kicker here so im waiting for it to calm down a little
This is for begginers ??
that last start was nasty!
I get up the deep water way because i wakebourd on a river
ohh yeah behind a boat or jetski that's the easiest
I have a video about it
I dont understand why they give us the hardest lauching method, cause i have been trying mins but no luck, asked to be standing and did it straight away.
For me, the jump is the hardest
30 tries today i didnt make it 😭
Only God knows why they teach you only to do a sit start at most cable parks

Nòoooooooooooo
show off ....
