Videos, like these, that showcase the urban fabric of a city are truly my favorite. Thanks so much for doing such an awesome update to your 2010 video! It's amazing how many changes have happened since then. I have never personally driven this stretch of Howard Avenue, but after seeing it, I really hope those MARTA stations are upgraded/renovated in the future. They look awful even for the time period they were constructed in. I'm looking forward to seeing what else you filmed in the city streets! Great work, Jim!
Thanks for showing us around Dekalb on Atlanta's east side. I really enjoyed seeing this as I've only driven thru that area a couple of times from the interstate.
Awesome video! On the route to Savannah last year we stopped in Atlanta in the morning we arrived, too bad we didn't have too much time to look around. Will have to come back :)
Its weird I was just looking up the name of that train yard (Hurley Yard). Ive taken MARTA to Inman Park Station a few times and it was just dawning on me that the yard must have a name. Its not wide but its very long. Great job as usual.
FreewayJim.....you sir, are the man! I love watching your videos and also got some friends and family members watching them! I love visiting ATL and love seeing those pockets of ATL that I tend to miss! Why does this road have reversable lanes? Evacuation route possibily?
Thank you very much! I think that particular road has reversible lanes to coincide with morning and afternoon traffic flow, 2 lanes inbound in the AM, 2 lanes outbound in the PM. Based on your comment I think you'll really like the next video coming later this week :)
Brought back some memories, as I attended several national professional emergency medical services conferences in Atlanta back in the late 80's, early 90's. the building boom was really just getting going back then, the CNN Center was pretty new, and you could tell even then that this city was getting ready to boom.
Seeing all of that graffiti and those murals was quite intriguing...definitely added a lot of character to what would have otherwise been just another overpass. I believe there's an actual alley in Chicago that is officially sanctioned by the city, for the purpose of tagging. Nice video! I had fun riding along.
Nice... interesting way into town and also interesting to see the transit tracks. I always did like to see the various differences of cities and I must say Georgia State's campus kind of reminds me of Akron U's campus- close to downtown Akron! Nice ride!
Nice video Jim and MARTA overpass graffiti would resemble the NYC Subway Graffiti from the 1970s-mid 1980s when the NYC Subway got new trains. On a side note I checked MARTA's website all of its stations are accessible from the late 1970s similar to both BART and Washington Metro since they already had ADA compliant station designs during the 1970s
Nice video Railway Jim. My hometown Fresno city officials have been trying to revitalize the downtown area for the past 25 years. They do not know how to do it. They scare off big businesses and it is just a mess. We do however have a new ballpark in downtown that was opened in 2000. But that is about it. A bunch of abandoned and decayed buildings. The old Del Monte plant just burned down a few days ago. A firm down in L.A. bought it and then went bankrupt and now the squatters most likely burned it down. Again thanks for this great vid. I know your name is FwyJim. FwyBrent sent me over to check you out. But for this video I will call you Railway Jim. =P
No problem. If graffiti were legal, I would've come down to the tunnel, and have drawn an interstate shield, which would say "FreewayJim forever," or something like that.
You did this on May 24? You should have parked up and went to the Caribbean parade. That's why the streets were blocked off. I was in it. Great video by the way!
I've been looking for this video! I watched it 4 years ago in 2017

Thanks, always appreciate your insights on these things, and I agree on the MARTA stations, bad even for 1979.
I'll be passing your favorite pizza joint in the next video :)
Thanks for showing us around Dekalb on Atlanta's east side. I really enjoyed seeing this as I've only driven thru that area a couple of times from the interstate.
Thanks, it's a pretty interesting area.
I really enjoyed this video. Inman Park is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city of Atlanta.
Thank you! yes it is a very nice part of town.
Awesome video! On the route to Savannah last year we stopped in Atlanta in the morning we arrived, too bad we didn't have too much time to look around. Will have to come back :)
Thanks, yes worth the time if you have it just to tool around town.

Thanks (Hulsey Yard) yeah it's pretty big, and you do get a great view of it from the MARTA train.

Just like the music, this was a cool ride. Fascinating with the tunnels, viaducts bridges etc.
Thanks Geoff!
Nice off the beaten path trip. I thought I seen this before. Interesting to see the reversible lanes on this stretch.
Thanks, yes, it's changed a little since then but looks better with the new gear and I though people would enjoy the tunnel.
I enjoyed the tunnel!

Thank you, and good luck!
We did drove The Blue Line on july the six and enjoyed it. Thanks Jim.
Very nice! Love the tunnel diversion as I'm a train buff. How many miles does the MARTA system have in service?
Best Song ever

cjs121675 I agree. I've lived in both places.
Awesome job can't wait for more
Thank you!
Nice video; I was just in the area of the Peachtree Center this weekend.
Thanks!
A nice town tour. I marvel at the gutsiness of the graffiti painters.
Thanks, yes I agree.

Lovely bit o smooth House to rift to with this one, Jim.
Nice.
Thanks!
Nice song, really loved it!
Hay Jim have you should be a record producer you have an ear to finding the right songs for your videos
Thank you Terry, I greatly appreciate that, it's just a "feel" I suppose.

LOL, Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Great shot, Jim! I'm surprised I didn't see any "FWJ" art or anything written in the tunnel. Oh well!
Can't wait to see your upcoming trip! :)
LOL, Thanks.
No problem. If graffiti were legal, I would've come down to the tunnel, and have drawn an interstate shield, which would say "FreewayJim forever," or something like that.
benlonghighway LOL, that would be cool!
parts of atl i haven't seen much of. you should do a blooper or gag vid. ever forget to turn camera on?
I think once, years ago I thought the camera was on but it wasn't.
A little off topic, but did you get caught in the big ice storm that crippled Atlanta during the winter?
No, I did not, I work 3.5 miles from home, no problems at all.
Freewayjim
Good, you were lucky
Love me some krog street my favorite place in atlanta
Thanks Jim.
wow, does Downtown ATL have anywhere in the street where you can make a u-turn?...That must be annoying, but I guess I would get used to it.
tswagg504 no. it's a lot of one way streets downtown
You just got keep making right turns
nice video and great song too!
Thank you!
I think I'm going to predict that your next video will involve Peachtree Street. Is it?
No it does not :)
Nice video Jim ! It changes the highway.
Thanks!
You did this on May 24? You should have parked up and went to the Caribbean parade. That's why the streets were blocked off. I was in it. Great video by the way!
Thank you!....I don't like large crowds and I had more footage to get :)
Freeway Jim do you live in Atlanta I live in the lithonia part :)
Yes I live in Gwinnett.
Cool
Very nice video! But I still wait for an video from my hometown Philadelphia :o
I have filmed several videos from the Philadelphia area. ua-cam.com/play/PL8429991D68389CFD.html
Oh, I'm sorry didn't see it!
Baum Stueck That's ok, now you don't have to wait any longer :)
This isn't the beginning of your road trip is it?
No, I shot enough around town for three videos Saturday, just making vids when I can.
Great, like always! ;)
Thank you!
Obviously, I liked this one.
That was a nice video :))
Thank you!
Bem interessante.
Love the video, but this shows poor city planning as far as traffic control, "Suicide Lanes" are always bad news.
Thanks, yes I agree about those lanes.
Freewayjim
I was wondering. What is the deal with the X and the Arrow lights above? It does not seem to be a heavily traveled road.
There isn't enough room to add another lane without using eminent domain.
