- 12 month of searching is over, I've bought a Mini Cooper Clubman SD, an R55. Some people say that it is a lady's car, for those people, like my self, we do have the Porsche 911 GT3 available for some proper manhood counseling.

@@Thataussiebattler Drive Experience: 8...for a small car it''s pretty darn good. As a former Porsche owner (before the kids arrives and I had to dump my 964 and 993 Carrera's), I love the way my R55 (S) drives.
Practicality: 6...it is no estate van, but put an overhead storage (Thule) on this car and it has plenty of room. With the sporty Thule, it looks good too. Fine for kids in the back. Decent amount of cargo space for shopping, and fold down rear seats for larger purchases...it's manageable.
Gas economy: 7...the sporty S with Turbo is a bit less economic...but it still gets decent mileage. It's not electric...but it is a small car...so mileage is certainly pretty good.
Maintenance: 4...If you change the oil regularly and at a higher frequency than OEM recommended, this is a big plus and a factor. Also, be careful of the timing chain tensioner, which was recalled. If you buy one, make sure that was already replaced. A timing chain failure will run you $2.5k if the engine isn't destroyed beforehand. Also, be sure the thermostat was recently replaced if in excess of 80K KM. This little thing is complex and expensive to replace...check the maintenance record thoroughly.
Quality: 7...Fit and finish are very good. It is part of the BMW family, and the fit-finish show it.
Overall: 7...I still love to drive my Mini. But...it is a bit of an attention seeker when it comes to care. Get a low mileage one with a solid maintenance record and frequent oil changes. Note the tensioner thing and the thermostat.

I have to admit I never drove a Mini but I was also fascinated by the design. It’s unique! No doubt. Nice to see how a cheaper car can make you as happy as the newest Porsche. It’s all about the fun and the “art of driving”, as you nicely say! Congrats!

yes GT3 is an epic drive, yet our history says what we have a fondness for, my first car was a 1966 mini cooper, it was old and tired yet has a place in my heart, i need to find one. Thanks for sharing this Janko and I'm glad your drone missed that tree

I bought the 2014 version of this car and it's amazing, i love this car so much and girls do too! They get more impressed by the quirky interiors on this mini than from an M3 exhaust note

@@JankoLind I feel exactly the same way about Mini Coopers as you pal. If you haven't done the speaker channel swap on your car, DO IT. I loved my Mini before then when I turned the stereo into a top of the range hifi with beautiful sounds, I loved it even more. I mile every time I get in.
I just bought a Cooper Clubman S, red with black roof and wheels. 138,000 miles but if I get a year or two I don't care.

Great Video work and great car choice! I am so with you, my daily is a '11 R55 Cooper D Hampton since a few years and i love it too, every time i push the button to start. It's a small practical car and give you so much back while using it. Btw, i saw the Lego Space Clubby in Billund parking and just thought "Yes :D". Take car of your R55. And if you love Porsche, do a factory visit at Porsche Leipzig for example on a Porsche Classic Cars & Coffee Sunday. For a petrol head it's a absolut blast to see how they built cars there. The BMW Leipzig factory is a few kilometers away from Porsche and also really awesome and future modern!

I love my mini R55 too. I've owned British and German cars and this was like getting the best of both worlds. It's like sitting in a Minor that drives like a Beemer. Yes, it's a PITA for this and that but if you keep an eye on the knick-knacks that rattle loose and tighten them up it's a great car in spite of it being a bit of a "tinker toy". Definitely not a cush car at least not my base model. I'm a professional photographer and I needed something to haul my gear so the barn doors are great for loading and unloading and it's a blast to drive.
It is a perfect car :-) if you need personality.

I have planned for more air cooled Porsche but many of them are not in traffic jet. Still a bit could in Sweden 🇸🇪

Fine car Sir! Had my Hampton SD Clubman now for 4 years, for me with the all important black roof lining black lounge leather seats and mood lighting. For me it's the perfect combo.
Your right it's not perfect, but perfect would become boring. My vehicle averages 54 mpg, £30 road tax and £250 insurance which is perfect though.
Having had many performance cars such as Alfa, Skyline GTR, Impreza, Audi TT etc what I can say is taking everything into account it is a great overall package for economy Vs performance with a dollop of Leftfield.
The only car that has a bigger place in my heart is the original Mini, but I have had no replacement parts on my Clubman in 4years unlike the Rover Minis I owned which never went 4months without having to tinker with them. Peace out brother, R55s are cool cars, and always will be.

I am looking at a 2013 R55 with JCW it only has 62000 on it but the price is high for me never own just trying to justify the cost of 15450 I have not seen it in person it looks so good I may lose all sanity. If I do.

As an owner of 2010 JCW R56 I'm pretty sure SD version has much more reliable engine, so it's finally a great choice.

Haha! MINI & 911’s are symbiotic. We also have one, but a Countryman Cooper D All4. A MAXI-MINI as I call it. Great cars, and zero faults on our 2015.
