Honestly. Dutch is what happens when you put German, English and a little French in an old blender and switch it on
I feel like there also is some scandinavian in there. There are so many words that sonds like the same in my language, but spelled different.
@Emily Bogel I always felt like dutch was a misture of german and english, so it's funny we see it differently :P I don't know dutch, but I know speak danish and english fluently. I understand norwegian and swedish and I have had german for maybe 7 years, so it's really interesting being able to recognize words that are similar to other languages. For example vikings took a lot of the danish/norwegian words into the english language, so if dutch have english words, that's probably why I think it's similar to scandinavian languages :P

In terms of language evolution, Dutch is like the bridge between English and German. Ik ben half nederlands- father Dutch, mom American- and because I grew up hearing Dutch, I was easily able to pick up German when I lived in Germany.

Not really. Most Americans are fascinated and enjoy foreign language. It's not about it not being english, it's just the simple fact it's different, and LITERALLY ANYONE FROM ANYWHERE who isn't used to people speaking foreign languages or hearing a certain language reacts that way. What is unique about America in this matter is people like you who want to dramatize Americans reactions to things for whatever reason.

As a Belgian I'm used to being entertained by Dutch expressions, but this one is this delicate setting with all the romance flying off the screen was so unexpected and HILARIOUS.
