Real creatives have a strong inner voice that guides their learning process and artistic decisions. They don't allow hustlers and charlatans to pollute their mindset.
One guy ive been listening to much more often is Ari Aster, film director of movies like Midsommar and Hereditary. There are a lot of interviews of him on YT where he not only talks about his films like Q&A's but he often oes into detail about his creatuve process. Im not even any kind of film maker but i find them filled with a lot of good bits of creative advice
Amazing, I've just pulled up a couple of his interviews into a notes doc of stuff to watch. Thanks, appreciate you taking the time to drop the info there.
That's funny that's come up. I am pretty much a noob on design, but watched and really enjoyed the Vogue piece on Owens. I'll take the tip and dig into some more interviews, cheers for the tip.
I only found this channel recently, but it has had a huge impact on my creative process. A lot of the times when I question myself I now ask why that is, and most of the time I just continue with my experimentation. Your videos on Rick and the importance of individuality have helped me push through some of my most doubtful moments, and I don't believe I would still be having as much fun as I am now without your insights, so I thank you for that!
I never leave comments on videos i watch on YT I'm always just lurking but your content has brought back that spark I've been missing. Thank you for that!
After reading Steal like an artist I ended up reading about Matisse and Willo Perron. They have really inspiration interviews for artists but the book talks about looking to your inspirations' inspirations and developing a tree almost of inspirations. Thank you for giving us all these valuable bits of info
Steal like an artist - I've heard of that, I'll go check it out, sounds like it will be useful for feeding back into this work. Thanks for dropping in and making the tip. Appreciated.
Like most of the other commentors here I'm super grateful for these videos. They're so inspirational and they're great to turn to in moments of internal turmoil. And best of all they really apply to all creative regardless of creative discipline.
Amazing, I've never heard of her and just found an interview with her by a podcast I've listened to a couple of times, so will check it out. Thanks for the link up there.
Bro you are an inspiration! I found your channel and it definitely gassed me up and now I’m on a full fledge aimless journey as a creative, I have no idea where I’m going though but I’m sure the artist you highlight would say that’s ok
One documentary that I always go back to is the fan made one of John Mayer called “Someday I’ll Fly” and it’s super amazing cause it just goes through his journey as an artist
Hey, I recognise this and appreciate the feedback. I try to stay aware of my limitations in this, and think a lot about representing a good range of mediums in my work - here's to consistently getting better with this in 2024 however, and thanks for reaching out.
Hey man! I've been thoroughly enjoying the content you've been creating on your channel. Your insights and recommendations have been incredibly helpful. I was wondering if you could possibly share the list of books you often refer to in your videos? Your suggestions have been quite insightful, and I'd love to explore those resources further. Thanks again for the awesome content you put out! Keep up the great work!
Hey, thanks for the interest and glad the work is connecting with you. Book list goes something like: Rick Rubin, 'The Creative Act', Tate: 'Brief Lessons in Rule Breaking' by Frances Ambler, 'Lives of the Artists, Lives of the Architects', 'Faith, hope, and carnage' on Nick Cave, 'The Book of Mac: Remembering Mac Miller', 'Most Dope' Mac Miller, George Saunders: 'A Swim in a Pond in the Rain'
Hope that list is helpful, looking to bring more into the vids in 2024. Oh, I forgot the Dilla book. 'Time' - reading this at the moment, it's really well written and goes in
Hey, great to hear. Thanks for bringing my attention to the problems the quick white images were causing. I've done some reading on it to bring my stuff in line. When I use a white for slide backgrounds in the future, I'll switch it to off white not full brightness and make sure it's on screen for more than just a flash. Thanks again for the info, cheers.
Does anyone know what video has the tennis ball/catch exercise? It helped alot can't seem to re find it. Ps. thank you for all the insights and inspiration. Watching your vids daily
Love this channel. It’s my go to for creativity advice. If anyone is interested in how to get into the right mindset for creative work I recommend the books: Create Now!: A Systematic Guide to Artistic Audacity + Creative Alchemy both by Marlo Johnson.
This might be a hot take. But with the exception of a handful, I’ll go ahead and say most modern rappers aren’t the ones to take creative advice from. Most of them all rap about the same shit, follow trends, rely on producers for 90% of their shit and they’re not even really creative performers. Off the top of my head I think rappers like Kendrick, Mac Miller, J.Cole, Em, Tupac are the most immediate rappers who have put out creative albums. If there are more I haven’t heard of or listed so be it. That’s all to say, don’t take creative advice from somebody just because they’re labeled an artist. Take advice from those who are actually creative

I'm a huge fan of Lynda Barry. She really helps cross that barrier of pressure you put on yourself, to remember that truth comes from play.

These videos are the best
Every couple months i watch the deepest depths of the burrow by nychos the street artist just to remind myself what’s possible and what the dream is.
Amazing. I've just copy and pasted that into UA-cam and found the doc. I'll be watching this one, really appreciate you linking it over.
Even just 10 hours of listening to other people on how they create sounds like a lot

What about Tyler
@@wayback1010 Yeah I’d include Tyler definitely. He’s a type of rapper who you know as soon as he comes on yk?
I just don't understand why you keep talking. Just let the clips play. No need to reiterate what is going to be said in the clip anyway.
He's providing commentary, which is a fair use of otherwise copyright material.
