    Thanks for this! I think the 11400(F) is still a brilliant budget chip if your primary focus is gaming. In Australia you can get one for $229, while the cheapest 5600X's are just over $400. The 12600K is closer to $500, and if I remember right the 11400 and 5600X had a pretty good fight.

    I just built my first Mini-ITX setup. Love it so far. For me half of the enjoyment with a new PC is the build it self. I didn't have any issues although it is quite tight with the cables and everything in the Lian Li Q58 Gen4. I run a 12600k with 32gb DDR5 and a 3060Ti GPU on a Asus ROG/Strix-Z690-I. I have like 69celcius on the performance cores during gaming and about 75celcius on the GPU. I guess that is quite acceptable temps?

    Awesome review thanks. Looking to put together my first ever PC and starting with the new NR200 max, otherwise everything else the same. Can I use this setup without a GPU until they become more available? Will it ‘just work’, defaulting to the integrated graphics? Then what happens when I do find a GPU, do you need to tell it to run the GPU and ignore the integrated or does it just take what it needs? Any downside to the integrated graphics version of the 11600 cpu chips? Seems the equivalent AMD versions took a performance hit with the integrated graphics which made me pause going down that route. I can just see it being another year before a 3070 or 3080 is available which I’m ok with as long as I’m not compromising myself from the start. Laptop gone bang so can’t really wait to get something just for office and internet tasks until a GPU can be found! Sorry, lots of Qs from a newbie!

    Excellent review, what after market M.2 heatsinks do you recommend for the build? (intel core i7 12th gen, Gigabyte Aorus Z690i mini itx, Noctua U12A in Cooler Master NR200P) and is it difficult to replace the m.2 heatsinks? you also mentioned in one of your NR200 case videos that a Gigabyte mini itx mobo has a higher cpu socket which causes the noctua U12A to remove one of the top case fans. is this applicable for the aorus z690i itx?

    Any recommendations for a cooler with this motherboard and a 12700k? Doing a build in the NR200P and got the Scythe Fuma 2, but the Fuma doesn't seem to fit the motherboard - the heat pipes hit the VRM heatsink, at least from a test fit with the plastic cover on the socket still.
    Not sure whether to mount it backwards, or return it and get something from Noctua or an AIO. I'd prefer air-cooled and being able to use the TG panel. Also considering just selling the motherboard and CPU (can't return the motherboard after opening, thanks Canada Computers) and getting a 5900x + B550i Aorus board.

    Even the Gigabyte Z690i is twice the price of the B550i so although the 5800x was maybe overpriced (and more so now) the Z690 motherboard prices are too high. Luckily for gaming Zen 3 still does OK.

      Yeah, if the the argument is $380 5800X plus $170 Aorus B550i, vs the $290 + $320 12600K combo, then it can go either way. The Z690i board has more features than the B550i, of course… maybe a little too many with the huge M.2 heatsink🤦‍♂️

    I'm lost on what to do for my CPU upgrade. I'm on a mini itx platform with a ryzen 1600AF & msi b450i gaming pro max. Almost everyday I have to restart my PC after booting & I believe it's due to ram. Stable at 3200Mhz after the restart but the start button sometimes is unresponsive so the restart is necessary to get it working properly. It does the same thing all the way down to 2666Mhz I believe. XMP is a disaster for it idk why but just manually setting to 3200Mhz is more stable. Would this issue go away if I swapped a 5600x into it? It almost makes me want to go for at least a 11th Gen i5 to get rid of weird issues like that

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  2 роки тому

      Hey Tyler, it sounds like the board is a little iffy with the RAM OC. Have you tried the latest stable BIOS? That is at least worth a shot. Zen 2 and up is significantly better for faster RAM (3200mhz dual channel is not an overclock anymore) so it’s absolutely worth a shot- and if your board is otherwise not faulty it’s more than capable of handling the 5600X (I’m assuming you have the Gaming Plus Max, which does have a 5000 series compatible BIOS version). Definitely would try an in-socket upgrade before switching… and personally I would not bother with 11th gen Intel at this point.

    You include Apple M1 Pro 10 numbers in the graphs, but Apple M1 has several huge disadvantages:
    -Cannot run x86 Windows software natively
    -Terrible for gaming
    -Photoshop on M1 is inferior to Photoshop on Intel cpu
    -Final Cut on M1 is inferior to Final Cut on Intel cpu
    -Hardware peripheral compatibility worse on M1, vs Intel
    -Apple hardware is locked-down, not upgradeable, and expensive

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  2 роки тому +1

      Of course, not an M1 review, just an interesting data point. Real world usability will range from not very useful (gaming) to incredible (video editing). Also my experience with FCP suggests that the M1 pro is far more optimized for it, there are specific operations where Intel CPU is better but that is only because it can be paired with a discrete graphics card.

    • @DerekDavis213
      @DerekDavis213 2 роки тому

      @@MachinesMore There are many plugins for FCP that are not compatible with the M1 version.
      Photoshop has many plug-ins that are not compatible with M1. And the Intel version is much more stable and extensive, compared to M1 version. And that's not surprising: Intel version of Photoshop has been refined over the last 15 years.
      And you know that most professional editors working with feature films, TV show, or commercials are NOT using Final Cut.
      I find it very surprising that Apple is able to convince its userbase how great M1 is, even though it is terrible for gaming, and cannot run Windows software via Boot Camp.

    • @MachinesMore
      @MachinesMore  2 роки тому +1

      Yup, I’ve heard about the plug-in compatibility issues. The Apple marketing machine is hard at work. I hope nobody gets one thinking they can game on it, certainly the hardware is by no means terrible but no developer cares enough about MacOS and rightfully so. FCP works well because it is their own software, but also because of the specific hardware that they’ve built into the SoC. I have noticed in the latest version of FCP is pretty buggy both on M1 and Intel. You might be interested in an upcoming Hackintosh vs M1 Pro comparison I’m doing. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share!

    disney gonna come sue you for those star wars references, cause if there is one thing disney loves more than consumerism, it's finding ways to sue its fans.

    AMD would not lowering prices of zen cpus because miners buy them on tons

    What people forget when comparing prices is that intel has embedded graphics...not extra expense. So $intel = $amd + $graphics.

      True- the KF SKU pricing (~270) is more comparable. Integrated graphics are nice to have for a lot of ITX builds though, especially ones with riser cables, in the event of troubleshooting. You can’t get a 5800X with iGPU, for example.

    No such things as e core. It's just basically bad silicone core that are cap at because they couldn't reach 4.7 like the performance core. That way Intel don't have to throw them away or sell it cheaper or downgrade it to 12400k. Smart on Intel side.. let's call it e core. It's efficient because you don't run high mhz.

    A great review of a formidable cpu!
    And also nice to get a look at the Gigabyte motherboard too. Looks like one of the better value boards, at least until the new B series comes around.
    Something I've been thinking about with the arrival of these new chips is how viable are existing low profile coolers on this new socket? Both in terms of how they handle the bigger cpu size and the thermals associated with that, and if there are any compatibility issues with the heatsinks conflicting with the increasingly standard taller VRM hardware on these new motherboards.
    I know in the video you mentioned the U12A conflicting with the huge SSD heat spreader, so I'm especially curious if low clearance coolers with fan underneath like the Noctua L12S/Ghost Edition, Alpenfohn Black Ridge, etc. will even fit now or if the smaller, fan on top, type like the L9A or Big Shuriken 3 are better options.
    Love the channel and really looking forward to seeing you put the 12600K through its paces in future videos.

      Good idea! I’ll throw something together. At this point the big name Z690 ITX boards are all going to have similar issues, so I’ll take a look at some coolers.

      I'm interested in this topic too. Can i ask what ssd cooler you installed instead of the original one in the mobo?

    This motherboard has gotten really really bad reviews - did you have any serious issues or concerns that would deter someone from getting this board? Great vid - thanks
