That wonderful sound of the tadpole units that ran in the line behind my house when I was a kid.

I love those old units - reminds me of branch lines long long ago.

I love the sound of there EE English electric engines as if you closed your eyes for a few seconds they sound very much like a chopper/class 20 locomotive 😍🤩🥰

Wait, did they not use the normal couplers? Looks like the buffers weren't retracted.

    More track required, I reckon.

Neil Foord: That would be lovely but unfortunately extensions cost vast sums of money. Do you have several million pounds in the bank you could donate to the Lavender Line?

@@UKWMO I wish. Unfortunately this country gives multi millions of pounds to foreign aid that will never be repaid and giving OUR money to foreigners that come here to deliberately milk the system to its full extent.

@@UKWMO I am not some kind of nerdy dreamy enthusiast without a grasp of the practicalities of railway restoration. In truth, very few lines manage to restore the former length entirely, but that's life in 2018.

Neil Foord: Certainly no offence intended, and I agree wholeheartedly with your comments. Admittedly more track would be fantastic though on this line which really is a lovely line to visit. I suspect, realistically, it will never happen though, unless some wealthy benefactor(s) come forward. There’s probably more chance of Network Rail reinstating/reopening the whole route, reconnecting it with the national railway network. This as you may know has been suggested many times in the past with several feasibility studies undertaken over the years but I understand at present it is believed it wouldn’t be viable or profitable.

@@UKWMO No offence taken at all. I'm just a marginal enthusiast these days at 47 years of age. I am a London man born and bred in the Paddington, Westbourne Park area and the Southern Region was always alien to us who had 50's, HST'S, 47's and a wealth of DMUs on the Thames lines and my favourite 115 & 115/108 hybrid units on the Marylebone services. Mind you, our class 50's coming across the water to Waterloo made that line so much more interesting. I moved to Sussex, and within a couple of years the 50's seemed to have followed in the Portsmouth to Plymouth services.
