This calmer quieter approach to the videos is very relaxing and enjoyable
Always love that paint scheme! So much purple! It's like an inverse Milwaukee Road like but I love the brighter purple more!
Haha it is good lookin!
That white and red building with the lion on it at 5:39 was one of the buildings (Curzon) that I used to study in now and then when I went to uni there :D
I'm really going to have to take you to Wimpy in Shrewsbury one day!
Actually... 😛
I haven’t been on the Class 196 and Class 730/0 but both of those trains do look really nice. And the Class 730/2s are to enter service later this year on London Northwestern Railway and to replace the Class 319 and Class 350/2.
Top class. Thank you for taking us along for the ride.
Cheers 🙂
Nice vlog of riding West Midlands railway newest trains G. I rode them within a few days of entering service. My first 730 journey was Tring to Watford and my first 196 journey was Wolverhampton to Birmingham as I didn’t make the first Shrewsbury one due to train disruption.
Thanks Sam! I did want to go ride to Tring but couldn't time it right 😂
@@GLovesTrains yeah I had to wake up before 5am to get the 6:27 off Rugby then connect with the 7:00 to Tring from MKC and 8:00 which was the 730 from Tring and the evening one was the 1554 off London back in November.
Both the Class 196 and Class 730/0s are very nice trains and London Northwestern Railway are expected to introduce their new Class 730/2s sometime later this year. You should have carried on with riding the Class 730s to Bromsgrove or Reddich.
3:23 Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you! It needed to be said so the word gets around, those seats are fine!
Ye I like them!
Class 196 are only 1yr old and I’ve been on lots of them at Telford central and they were smooth the class 196 and the seats are nice
They look good ,only used once on Wolverhampton to Walsall, the suspension gives Less comfortable ride than the old 4 car trains and at speed they "Hunt"sway side to side a lot more as the older trains, there's plenty of room to walk up and down train because there are 70 fewer seats on them than the 4 Car sets .
I do hope that biscuits that accompanied your cup of tea were or were Shrewsbury biscuits
A very underated biscuit.
Many years ago, the buffet at Manchester Victoria used to sell Fruit Shrewsbury biscuits. A missed opportunity here.
Oh wow!
Should have popped in for a brew, I live on the cross city line. My local station is Selly Oak.
Great video! I love 196s but im yet to ride on a 730! They look so spacious and nice!
They are!
I think I speak for most of us here when I say that we hope that we will be able to get that "full on [...] dance routine" at the next available opportunity :)
Haha i will practise it!
@GLovesTrains I love your content. Thank you very much.
Thanks stubeedoooo
Hi G, thanks for the video Video, not been on either trains yet, but looking at a great pair!!😎🚝🚝🚝🚝🇬🇧💚
Nice...... open plan feature inside, Thameslink style. I wonder if EMR will advance there next model carriage to the open plan carriage look.
Thank you G for your continuing adventures on the rails. Unfortunately l am going through bir of a ruff time but your vloga always help cheer me up,even foe a little time. 👍🚉🚊
Aw sorry to hear that!
I rode a 730 005/009 combo a few weeks back (may even have been the same day) from Longbridge-Bourneville whilst riding some 323s before they head your way! I'd already ridden 007 (shaken, not stirred!) on a Wolverhampton-Walsall train.
And today, I've ridden 196 110 & 112 on the Hereford line!
Yeah, like virtually all new/refurbished trains atm, the seats do seem a little hard but both are great units, with the spaciousness of the 730s being really good!
Amazing stuff!
Wow what class and style , and the trains were great too, purple and Orange go nice together and nice seat Patten on the 196 thanks for another stylish Vlog ,have another coffee and get yourself some Vegan chocolate Biscuit's too take Care G
Ye I love the colours! And thanks again, I will do!
Both of those new classes of train are lovely and modern - hopefully you get to experience them again. It must be nice to get a chance to try out a new one now and again. Heck knows when we'll see new rolling stock up in my neck of the woods!
Haha ye took me a while to ride them but happy now
@@GLovesTrains I'm just stupidly happy any time I get a ride on one of ScotRail's Class 43's that they use for the InterCity7 services. And those things are 45 years old now... 🤣
Fantastic G as ever two brilliant new trains with all the mod cons so many new classes of units rolling out all over the country at present good to see superb V Blog thanks for showing us these new trains till next time cheers 👌🙂
Cheers!
On the Shroosbury/Shrowsbury thing, I was once told by a steward at a home game for Shrewsbury Town, that folk living there are split as to which is correct, with equal numbers using either version !
Yeah that's fair! 😄
I've yet to be on a real 730 but ive seen them about, I have been on a simulator for one though. They for me kinda give off class 700 thameslink feel to them with their info boards, I feel that they are similar in that depart. I did get excited when I saw the 196 thinking you was at Coventry/Coventry arena 😅 I've been on the 196s loads of times and been in the cab in them. They are both very good trains and its nice that plugs and usbs are becoming standard on trains not just something exclusive to 1st class.
One I ought to tick off in the future!
You ought!
Great video, G! The second train seats looked much more comfortable to me.
Yeah I can understand, I personally like hard seats 😆
Great video, G! I'm yet to try these new trains out when more 323's move to Northern.
I like the interior of both trains, the 196 interior does look lovely and reminds me of the 397's interior with the lighting setup!
Aye thanks Reece!
brilliant review of the amazing 196s & 730s i tried out the 730s back in Feb as i rode one from Birmingham to Wolverhampton & a few days later i had a cheeky ride one another from Wolverhampton to Birmingham after trying out the 196s which i rode from Wolverhampton to Telford & on to Shrewsbury & return to |Wolverhampton & i rode another 196 from Coventry to Nuneaton 2 days later & i love both trains & they are awesome trains awesome vlog
Awesome thanks!
Great film as ever G. Looking forward to the dance routine next time!
Haha thanks Carl!
Thanks x
Thanks a lot Josh!
@@GLovesTrains welcome
Hello G hope your well ... Great train cracking video x
Thanks!
Very nice vlog G those new trains certainly look very nice i can't wait to have a ride on them very soon looking forward to seeing your full on dance routine next time you are on a 730
Haha my dodgy dance routine 🤣 thanks Stuart!
I haven't ridden a 196, but I've been on lots of 195s and 197s in the last two weeks, and they seem fine - yes, they're a bit wobblier than (say) a 185, but not so that it matters. And as for the seats, I'd much rather have those than the ones on a Turbostar that push your head forward.
And the Shrewsbury riverfront is great, isn't it?
Absolutely shtunning!
The Class 730s and the Class 196s are very interesting trains, Like how you did a journey from Lichfield to Shrewsbury by using both new trains, great video G!
From Cyber Trades :p
Thanks CyberTrades haha!
Shtunning vlog, nice trains and scenery.
Shtunning my dear shtunning!
Such cool trains! 🚂 😎
Those trains are awesome! Great video and love the cute ending.
Haha cheers!
Great video G.
Very nice video, we really enjoyed it.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for your latest video
Nice video. Good to see the investment.
Orange looks cool ,great posting 😊
Cheers!
Great video G! I really like WMR's new Trains, very reliable and lots of space with nice seats
Aye thanks!
The class 730s and 196s are running with west Midlands railway on their Shrewsbury and Hereford to Birmingham new street and cross city and stour valley lines
Especially by means of design I can only agree that the BR Class 730 is a lovely EMU, Same for the class 196's. Ironically, we also have Civity EMU's with us in the Netherlands. These are the so called SNG's(Sprinter New Generation), 118 of these EMU's are operated by the Dutch State Railways(NS)
Awesome!
ayy a video from my local area the WM! great video G! :)
Aye aye! 😄
Lovely new trains, looks really impressive, back here in Dublin we will be getting new CAF Battery Electric trains for the expansion of our DART rail service later this year and early next year.
Sounds great!
Wot no knicker hook? That's just not good enough! Great video :)
I know ye!
Looks like you had fun G.
Did do!
My verdict on the 196s and 730s, if it wasn't for the lack of knicker hooks, they'd be shtunning my dear 😅
Very strange ticket pricing, where it costs £5 more to start your journey 15 minutes earlier
Haha! Yeah I thought that 😂
I love all your vlogs, well produced, edited and entertaining. You should consider moving into Livestreaming such as IRL on Twitch, you'd gain a lot of following with your vlogging skills, and could earn well from it. Ray
Thanks and I have to be in the mood to do a livestream
Yeah g'day G,
I like the look of the new trains and the livery/interior is not bad either. A true test will be on a busy weekend when seats are scarce.
Thank you for an interesting vlog.
G'day! 😄
I love your videos 😂😂😂
I love the orange and purple.. Saw some parked up on the way to Coventry last month. They ought to be sponsored by Sainsbury's with that colour scheme.
Same voice anouncer as the South Eastern trains. It's a teensy bit of a shame that we couldn't have regional variations.
Travel would be so much more enjoyable if fares were at reasonable levels. Apparently had they simply risen with inflation a £25 fare in 2005 would only be £45 today. Not £145!
what a great video showing of interesting trains, could you do a top 5 video of your favorite trains
I love your videos! When will you make the jump to 4K resolution?
Thanks and dunno ahha
The class 196's had armrests, but WMR took them out for unknown reasons
Did not know that!
Brilliant video G, the Class 196's are nice trains. The Class 730's are nice too (although I'm sad to see the Class 323's leave the cross city line), the only thing about the Class 730's is though, where are the button to close the doors if it gets too cold? lol
Are there none? 😂
@@GLovesTrains Only an open the doors button lol. 😂
Interesting station is Litchfield Trent Valley with that short platform on the other side of the high level passenger platform.I am guessing that platform 4 was once longer and most of it taken out but the bit against the bridge left.I have never seen anything stop at it and I don't think that there's any way to get to it for non rail staff.
Ye I was guessing there would be a platform 4 but didn't see it 😂
Thumbs up 👍
👍👍
Is that a pan pride top you're wearing? If so ❤
Its not haha but I really do want to find some pride themed tie dye tees 😄
Once again your video hits the spot...something I never manage to do (according to Mrs Boulder)....
😂
EMR and LNWR are two of my fav TOCs --- I have traveled to London (from Stoke) for only £8 on LNW and had a much more comfortable journey than the Avanti pendo ride, though it was a bit slower. Sorry once again, but I wonder what cam you used to shoot this video G --- the quality, detail, colour and contrast is really outstanding - it looks as if you may have HDR enabled too? I want to get back to video making and although I have a background in Pro AV work the best piece of kit I own for video is a 13yr old Nikon D300s DSLR.
Those occupancy indicators need some attention. I was in a "full" coach last week and there were five of us 🤔
Oh not good! 😆
Found your channel after watching Geoff Marshall, love your approach to trains, but only after watching a couple of your videos think it lacks something when the 'melons' don't get a mention lol
Please do that again with a dance Routine 💃
That livery always makes me think they are sponsored by Sainsbury's
😄
Are you going to do a Vid riding the West Midlands Rail class 139 on the Stourbridge Town branchline?
I want to
Hi, what Apps would you recommend for trains please?
I'm living in the Midlands if that helps. Thanks
Trainpal
How do you keep your time on what trains come at and have you left your coat on a train or found one left on a train
I wonder if the difference in price for 2 off peak singles would be because one is routed via Brum and the other via Crewe?
Both were for the same route 😆
Hello when in first in service you should try the class 805/807 80x Trains, That what I am doing. And great video!
Yeah I want to!
I suspect they'll be a lot like the LNER ones, just twice the price since it's Avanti haha. I doubt they'll be better than the 390s, most reviewers still prefer the IC225 sets over the 80x on LNER and HSTs over 800s on GWR when GWR still ran HSTs. I've not ridden an 80x myself, but have ridden on old IC225 coaches on the TfW loco hauled service and they are quite nice.
@@mrvwbug4423 Avanti's seats for the 80x are not the ironing board ones what GWR use, they use pendolino Seats instead.
@@fuzzyblueProductions4553 That's good. I know not all versions of the seat used by GWR and LNER on the 80x are awful, the TfW 197s use the same model of seat just in a better version, probably the only positive thing you could say about the 197s haha.
See through luggage racks. Where do you put your luggage if it's not see through?🙂
Under the seat 😂
What does squishy baby mean exactly may I ask?
I am surprised anywhere other than London/southeast is getting new trains! Are they total new trains or trains that have been heavily modified reengineered and upgraded?
Both 196 & 730 are brand new trains.
@@ianr Wow you lucky lot - normally anyone North of Watford gets London cast off after they have been used for 20+ years
195,6,7 are quick and dirty DMU replacements that CAF is building for super cheap. I know the TfW 197s get dragged hard because they honestly are terrible (I can attest to this one first hand). The 730s are mainly there to replace the aging class 350s in LNWR's fleet and the 323s since London is still playing shuffleboard with Electrostars and they would be a bit overkill for WMR service. The 387s are still too new and too in demand to get hand-me-downed to a TOC up north, and 375s/377s are 3rd rail only.
WMR Class 730
WMR Class 196
Thanks G, would you consider reviewing how good the disability facilities are on the trains, .. for your future vlogs, much appreciation.
Yes of course
Do Northern get all the cast-offs that nobody else wants?
That or cheaply built CAF Civitys. TfW isn't much better in that regard, but their best rolling stock are their repurposed IC225 sets, other than that they're a sea of 150s, 153s and 158s, with the craptastic 197s entering service a few years ago, the 175s getting retired before more of them burned up and a few nice 231s that never stray far from Cardiff.
Out of interest...did you get your ticket checked whilst travelling on WMT services?
Urrr not sure if I did this time
@@GLovesTrains I like that you even type "urrr" in a Lancashire accent....🤣
good old julie berry still on the announcements
