I think the alphabet is in this order because of the roman times. The romans invented the latin alphabet which we use today and they had 23 instead of 26 letters. The romans only used capitals and didnt distinguish between capital and lowercase. The three missing letters in the roman alphabet at that time were j, u and w meaning that the name of the roman emperor, Julius would have been written as Ivlivs. The letters J, u and W came into the alphabet even though they were in the previous alphabets.
