From 42 seconds to 1min 15sec you get that really nice pad as in 808 State - Pacific State. Anyone over the hill now but in their prime then would love the System 8
Sounds great! It might actually be exactly what I was looking for in a 4 octave synth. I really wish I had enough money for the Prophet 6, but this just might have to do...now about that Roland DJ808...
I think this synth really shines when you don’t use the Juno or Jupiter engines. When you try to find the System 8’s voice and embrace it’s digital aspects and sounds instead of trying to make it sound like an analog synth it begins to show where it might fit in a set up...even alongside actual analog gear. For a long time I scoffed at digital synths or virtual analog synths but what I’ve come to realize is they have been simply used improperly.
Sounds sweet! Glad to see that the shiny surface of the JD-XA did not make it to this one! BTW, I know it's just the lighting, but the color scheme in this video resembles the Yamaha DX7... kind of chocolate brown with green trim!
You'll find them here for example: www.roland.com/us/products/rsp-8a/ If you prefer wood over Al, then have a look here: www.roland.com/us/products/rsp-8w/
In Europe it is listed for example at thomann: www.thomann.de/de/roland_system_8.htm?ref=search_rslt_SYSTEM-8_398238_0 and in Switzerland, where I live, house of sound has added a page: www.houseofsound.ch/roland-system-8.html Delivery scheduled for Oct. 4th.
omg! - the theremin sound at 3:30...is that included in the Ststem-8? - it reminds me so much of Jean-Michel Jarre's earlier sounds like on Equinoxe. ..i love it!
I've changed my mind about Deepmind 12 after playing it. It sounds really good, the mod matrix is extremely powerful, great FX, great build quality, there is nothing touching it in its price range. I was one of the first System 1 users, but I'd take Deepmind 12 over System-8 (and probably Prophet 8 Rev 2) in a heartbeat.
Deepmind 12 is certainly not a bad synth, Bob Demreau: It has many features and options to really get into detailed sound design. You may like the sound and the concept or you may not, which has little relation to the possibility and user interface for sound creation. Probably the System-8 is also not a bad synth, at least from the specs. Unfortunately the presets for the internal sound engine really suck and are amongst the worst Roland has created. As yet I have, unfortunately, not found a video that presents real nice custom sounds.
Not the synth for me. The plug-outs sound better and more convincing than the internal engine. Most sounds of the internal engine seem to suffer under an overdose of applied effects.
I just bought one. I felt the same way. Sounds similar to the JP-8000, but with a body like the SH-201. It has some amazing sounds like both of those old synthesizers. I love the Boutiques, so I was happy to get something that emulated the Jupiter 8 and Juno 106 with 8 voices of polyphony. I think it sounds amazing for what it does. I put a couple tunes up on UA-cam, but the compression on UA-cam doesn't help the sound quality at all. :)
not bad but not really impressed.... The last time I was impresses was when I heard the Waldorf Q and Microwave XT... Long time ago. Also the novation supernova give me shivers... And the Roland JP80 :-D And the JDXA hahahaa
8 Voices virtual analog - 1500€? Why should someone not want to go for some real Analog Synth if loving that sound? Behringer DeepMind12 Dave Smith Mopho ... Even Virus TI is another world.. But ya, industry must allways bring somethin new to keep the money rolling, normal.
Why would they only put 8 voices on this fkn thing...to make it more realistic? It just makes no sense that it would have these limitations, the korg radias having 24 voices is a limitation but it makes sense for when it came out kind of
You play each sound for too long... Did you reveal all ? I was gonna buy it but my knowledge is limited to aprox. 20 sounds Is that it ? The fact that there was no sales talk was GREAT
With the exception of the basses, everything else was 'meh'. There was no color to the sounds, they occupied a narrow space in the stereo field without any life or air at all. Very disappointing.

the coffee cup at the top left keeps appearing and disappearing
It's magic!
It's one of the features of the System 8
I find it extremely disturbing.....Something out of Alice in Wonderland.
is it a star bucks ?
you want coffee go get one ?! I want roland
First demo I've heard that's made me think this might be worth checking out. Thanks!

my sofy synthesis siunds better
Because Roland system 8 is a softsynth in a plastic case, lol
I actually like the sound, and if I'm using it for live performance, I would not be using my CPU to have 10 soft synths loaded...
This sound bloody amazing, would love to get my hand on one of thesr
Merci pour la démo !:))
This was great man. Thanks very much.
Awesome sounds.
I've got the chills now.

You are playing all my favorite chords, man! ))
Sounds wonderful. Between this and the Behringer, it'll be a hard year for GAS.
So did you get either one?
Sounds amazing! how did you get the METAL Side panels on this board? are they selling them with that? I Don't recall seeing metal on the sides?
You'll find them here for example: www.roland.com/us/products/rsp-8a/
If you prefer wood over Al, then have a look here: www.roland.com/us/products/rsp-8w/
Oh great! Thank you. Has this unit been released yet? I don't see any dealers having any in stock?

Yes.
2:54 sounds fatter and more like a Juno 106 than Deepmind 12, which is one of the most polite, plucky sounding synths I've ever heard.
G deepmind 12 is a bad synth

Nice demo. Too bad this thing only has a 4 octaves keyboard. It somewhat defeats the purpose of having a Split capability.
AlainHubert only 8 voices
the system 8 has "drums-beat" sound ?
Nice demo!
i like it
Sounds great.
No polyphonic aftertouch for $1500? No deal.
I do think the Jupiter 8 sounds better than Arturia's though.
sounds like doo doo
I want one of those Aira ice cube trays!!!
please someone can tell what keys is he playing at 2:53? that little riff
He's playing octaves of the notes F Eb Bb and Db
great !
00:48 reminds me of Dead Can Dance!!!!!
how much is it? Is it better than jd-xa?
Not the synth for me. The plug-outs sound better and more convincing than the internal engine. Most sounds of the internal engine seem to suffer under an overdose of applied effects.
Only 8 voices?
to me sounds and looks a lot like a jp 8000
anyone agrees?

Machiwoomiapoo made of flimsy plastic though.
Anybody else sick of the Supersaw sound? Otherwise, nice. :)
This sounds good but soft synths come close enough to make the price not worth it. Another sub-par piece of gear from Roland.
yup - it does sound good but not better than vsts...
Dboy321 Razo it IS a vst.
Ear candy!
My JDXA can beat up the System 8 :D But great video, thx for sharing !
pet disposeable coffee cup is distracting...keeps entering and leaving frame...

Very digital

Sounds pretty weak
