Hey Mary, you make it look so easy. Really beautiful.

30 seconds of "carving" with no words. I didn't even learn anything about a Gadroon molding... I want to be nice but I feel like I was spammed.

+whig475 This is why it is called "introduction". It introduces you to this carving. I make my living by making instructional videos and teaching. The full lesson is 1/2 hour and I show how to carve a 6 inch length of this molding design, talk through it, and show what tools to use. Please don't watch my introduction videos anymore, I certainly don't want to offend.

+whig475 I just realized the label "introduction" was missing on the title of this video. Sorry for the confusion. This was not meant to be an entire lesson. Please unsubscribe to my UA-cam channel if you do not wish to receive notifications of new videos, as most of my videos are "introductions" to my full length lessons.

+Mary May I expect no one--subscribers or non-subscribers, is interested in watching a video like this one. FWIW, I am deep in your target audience. If you don't wish to create a new carving video, take us along with you on a tour of a museum (or anything!) I hope you find this constructive criticism.

+whig475 Thank you for your thoughts! I have been adding short introduction videos of all full length lessons that I make for over a year and half, and I have had very little negative feedback, with many encouraging comments. Your suggestions of a tour is a great idea! Thanks! As I mentioned above, I suggest you unsubscribe from my channel so you do not receive further notices of videos, as I plan on adding many more of these introduction videos, and I do not wish to offend you further. Thank you.

+Mary May I feel some sense of responsibility for the image of woodcarving in the popular culture. If you might, even inadvertently, tarnish it with thinly-veiled marketing videos of low quality (as this one), I feel obliged to at least bring the matter to your attention. I've seen other of your "introductory" videos which I found pleasant and enjoyable. I know that the workshops you teach cost approximately $175/day for 5 day workshops (and they seem to fill up fast), so you can see that I am familiar with your work. If you seek to rise to the status of say a "Roy Underhill", you might ask yourself whether he would publish a video like the one you have published above... Incidentally, I have a carving gouge roll-up I made out of 2-pair of Levis I wore in the 1990s, much like yours. It gives me a kind of satisfaction that I'm sure you well understand. Even though I don't have the time or inclination to watch every video I'm sent a link to, and I certainly don't post a reply to every video I watch (quite the contrary), I want you to know that I care (about woodcarving (et. al.), marketing, and UA-cam). Together we will help shape the future!Cheers!
