      The Price is Right is often good about this. If the error is theirs, they'll still give it to you. There was an incident after Drew took over with Plinko. The Plinko board had been used for a commercial and rigged for that use - and they forgot to remove the guide wires. They had the contestant re-do his puck drops, but gave him the full winnings of the multiple (rigged) 10k landings.

      It's not up to bob - Bob wears an ear piece where the director from the control room communicates with him. Exec producers are also in touch with the director - it's up to the execs to decide, they tell the director "it's a winner, g ive her the prize" and the director says to Bob "give it to her". The exec producers call the shots, not the host.

    • @jimmydandy9364
      @jimmydandy9364 Рік тому +33

      @@icyhotmike The new version is TERRIBLE, they could not have picked a worse host - Even Bob himself made comments about the direction of TPIR. Next to the two legends of game show hosts, Bob Barker and Steve Harvey, he is nothing ! In my opinion due to controversy with Bob over the years, he was forced to retire, it would be logic, he did not see eye to eye with production on many things, including prizes, etc, so I do not think Bob retired on his own accord, not 100% convinced on that. The new TPIR format CAN work, but the new host is really bad - it even seem forced and fake at times, he's gotten far worse compared to his first few shows.

      In those days, though, most game shows had production crew members just off-stage (generally with ways to contact the "powers that be") that gave the host the behind-the-scenes ruling. That said, though, the man *was* the show (well, alongside Rod Roddy and the ladies, of course), so I could see the producers/bosses giving Bob leeway to do his thing (and it was just a $37 electric can opener...*much* better to just give it up than deal with controversy (the error wasn't on the part of the contestant, after all)).

    He was SO YOUNG HERE! 😮 And I've always loved him! That was precious, almost like he made that choice on his own, and didn't care what anyone had to say! He made that executive decision and it was great! Then again, I really never watched this a lot. I wanted to, but growing up when kids and teens didn't have our own t.v. 😂 and I have a sis 4 years my senior and my brother is only a yr older, hence the same reason I never got the Nintendo controller, lmbo! Love you, Bob!

    In 1973, while waiting to pick up my suit at a Los Angeles dry cleaner, I noticed Bob Barker beside me, chatting amiably with the staff about the best way to remove a coffee stain. When he turned and flashed that iconic game show host smile, he graciously signed an autograph on my receipt, joking that it might just be my lucky ticket. That sexy SOB 😭

    Bob knew by law he had to give it to her, but he's also a TV legend and knows how to play the crowd. Saying "I'm giving it to her anyway" sounds better than "by law we have to give her the prize"
