DIY Balance Beam | DadCrafted
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 жов 2024
- A good friend of mine approached me about making a balance beam. Seemed easy enough. Glue up some 2x4’s and attach some legs and boom! Balance beam! But as I got into it I began to realize there was going to be a kid jumping up and down on this thing repeatedly, so I wanted it to be sturdy and safe. This is how I did it.

Great build, your kids love it. You must be their hero!
What a great job you did. Safety first must be your motto. The boys will get a lot of use out of it. I was going to have my bf make one for my great niece but we don’t have all the wood working tools. Next time I come home to Iowa I’d look you up to have one made but traveling with a balance beam would be difficult!!!! Go Hawkeyes!
Thanks so much! 🙏🙌
Hello from India
I really wanted to use a beam (it was too expensive to buy and my father doesn't do woodwork)
Of course, this tutorial was very difficult for me, so I took two suitable sized wooden planks, used sandpaper, and superglued the two pieces together (not over on another but side by side to increase the length)
Though I cannot elevate the planks, it works well for practising jumps.
Thankyou for helping us
This guy is super amazing 👍. Love the ending 😀
Wow this is so cool I'm making mime today . Thank you for accualy making a clear and detailed instructions
Georgia Shipwright thanks for watching! 🙏👊
Awesome project! Totally building one of these for my boys. Thanks!
Thanks so much!
👍You are an awesome dad The! The balance beam is great.... and the instructions were clear.
Thank you! 🙏
This is terrific. Exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you for watching!
Great video. If you don’t have a planner, just buy a 4x6 instead, I think that should do the job.
This is probably true. I like to overcomplicate things.
@@dadcraftedI’m more a metal fabricator. I like the the idea of laminated. I may hire that part out . My granddaughter loves the balance beam. I think I’ll do it your way 👍thank you
@@Seeker887 good luck with your build!
Things we do for our kids
Hey pops now when you get up in middle of the night you have something to trip on 😂👍🏻
Just kidding great job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Haha! This one was for a friend so no tripping for me! Thanks! 🙏
Awesome!!! I need some toys (tools) of them!!!! I'm making a balance beam too but with a 4x4x8 and I'm looking for how to make the legs. I only have a circular saw and a drill.
Yes! You could totally use posts to do this for sure! Good luck with your build!
I am sooooo impressed by your work. I don't have those professio al tools but I am going to try to make one for my girls by asking some experts to do some of the wood works. I just want to ask you how thick is the foam? Thanks and what about making the legs metalics??? I was thinking abou making adjustable legs in hight??? Maybe too difficult but it could be great. Thanks for the tutorial, man. You did a really great job! Congratulations. I wish you were closer as I would ask for your help😅🤣😜👏👏😘
It was 1/2" thick foam that I got from a local fabric store. Thanks for watching and good luck with your build!
ayyye let’s go hawkeyes!
Girls In Leos Go Hawks!
What a lucky child you have!
Thank you! 🙏
Excellent!!! Thanks for the video!!
Thanks for watching! 🙏
This is great! Nice work! I would have loved one of these as a kid :).
Thank you! 🙏
Great job!!! 👏👏😜👍
Thank you! 👍🙏
What’s the material you used after the foam and where did you get foam and whatever that material is. Thanks
I got the foam and the cloth material from Jo Anne’s fabric. It was just a faux suede cheap material.
I'll be building mine like that great job
Steve Gland thanks! And good luck with the build!
Awesomeness cool....
kyle watts thank you!!! 🙏
how far from the ends did you put the support beams?
shoot, looks like I didn't put that in the video or the blog. They were approximately 12.5" from the ends.
What kind of fabric is it?
Where did you get your foam?
Kaylynn Dara it was just a microfiber fabric I think. And I got it and the foam both from JOANN fabric and crafts.
Como se llama la tela de espuma y la tela que cubre???
how much would you charge for doing oone like that?, just checking....
I probably wouldn’t do a custom order again. Too much work for me to make it to make enough money.
I wonder if there is a 2x4 router template
For which part?
Nice
Thanks! 🙏
.
Go Hawks!
Go hawks!!!
Turned out great but I’ll just buy a 4x4. Save some time and steps.
Fair enough! I was thinking at the time it would need to be thicker, but I agree that a 4x4 would work.
Why not use a post bigger than the 2x4s
You certainly could do that if you were happy with the size. I just had 2x4s on hand.
👍👍👍
My step daughter is in gymnastics and wants a beam to practice cartwheels and such on the beam....
Does anyone know how sturdy this is? If it could handle a 100lb girl flipping around?
It should be plenty sturdy. I'm 200 lbs and I jumped up and down on it before I delivered it to my friend. And then his daughter used it for a couple years with no issues.
@@dadcrafted PERFECT! We made it, thanks for the design. About $25 in materials =]
But what if you dont have those machines and you desperately want to make it ?
Jenna Snyman I think you can get by without the planer. It would just be more sanding. And if you don’t have a chop saw you can always ask the store to cut things for you. I know Home Depot will do it free of charge.
2x4x___? what?
There's a link in the description to my website where I lay out all of the dimensions. Not entirely sure what you're asking, but the width of the beam was a tad over 4 inches I believe.
