Richard Smith is a national treasure! Is there anything he can't play? If there is, I sure haven't heard it! And his taste is just wonderful, positively sublime. Richard if you are reading this, Doc and Merle Watson would be proud of that number. More, please....
In addition to the stellar playing, I think that it's great that Richard gives the correct composer credit to Tommy Jackson, a great country and bluegrass fiddler who is too often overlooked today. I've noticed that most musicians who play this tune think that it's just some old traditional tune, with no known composer, but Tommy Jackson composed it. Tommy was at that time (1958-1961?) playing in Ray Price's band, the Cherokee Cowboys, and that's how the the tune was named.
All the guitarpickers in the world, and there's Richard Smith. A league of his own.
The sheer surgical precision... It's just masterful, there's no other way to describe it.
Just the one guitar playing?? The guy is simply magic.

He’s in a league of his own.
This is the best arrangement I’ve ever heard of that tune, hands down!
I've been picking for 27 years. I still can't play this song...and he's playin the whole band..

Damn I love the way this guy plays this song. Cheers mate.
Simply AMAZING. I love it! Now THAT'S how you play a guitar.
Thanks, Richie! It seems that it takes another guitarist to appreciate Tommy's level of artistry!
@@cgprande The player's name is Richard, not Tommy.

@@cgprande Absolutely. Richard must have forgotten more songs than I've ever learned. Kudos to him.

I agree, Gareth! It's not musically complex but very tastefully played and Richard's arrangement is physically difficult!
