"Show up and I will do the rest." This is an underrated line from Ilia. He did a great job building up this fight and standing on his word. Thank goodness we get to witness the Ilia era... I think it's going to be legendary.
100%. I'm a huge Max fan really wanted him to win, but in all honesty I didn't see him winning. Looking at the way Illia fights, he's smart and strong everywhere. He has elite skill and power. I told my brother I don't see Max winning, and yeah brother agreed and so we weren't surprised Illia won the way he did.
One crucial thing about the BMF that I saw no one mentioning, is that you cannot give it to a champ. Once you give it to a champ, it will always be with a champ, as they will lose it with the championship belt together. Which would make it's existence completely redundant. The BMF has to be a non-champ fighter at all times, to be able to hype up guaranteed brawls, and to be able to pass around between weightclasses. I'm quite surprised that literally no-one mentions and understands this besides the UFC.
I think Ilia knows very well what he is doing. He's a smart, unlike the majority of the media. He creates a storm around himself, another topic to talk about and to make countless of shorts and 25 minutes long videos about, plus his making a favor for the UFC by raising the significance of the BMF belt. Marketing 101.

To me BMF doesn’t necessarily mean you need to have been through many wars but to just be that guy who’s all about that anyone, anytime, anywhere attitude and is willing to throw down, not quit on himself and have an exciting style. By proxy those are the type of fighters who’ve been in some of the best battles
anyone, anytime ,anywhere is easier when you dont have belt chances. The only BMF that risked something was Gaethje(he was in a good position to fight for the belt). The other BMF's or were journeymans/old glory or in a limbo situation like Holloway after losing 3 times with volk.
He only gave the BMF the attention because of people who went absolutely wild when Max took it from Justin and claiming ilia was scared. He wasn't and this is the point he's making.
I think Ilia's whole BMF thing is more to do with the fight buildup and the notion he was scared (he clearly was not). Also the Conor comparison is quite odd cause Ilia is clearly a better champion with 1 defence and a far better fighter.

Honestly, just rebrand the BMF as a transient, lineal catchweight belt. Something that can move across weight classes, but becoming a catch weight belt that has people meeting at agreed weights means it can no longer find itself in fights alongside weight division belts. But it holds no weight division home.

What I find fun is that the BMF title is essentially that it's a belt granted to a certain weight class. Of course, it might move up or down if Max goes down a weight class or if he loses it in LW the winner goes up a weight class and loses it there. But it says a lot about LW that that's the natural place right now for the BMF. Because that's where you have the most BMFs who've gone through the most BMFing wars.
Not sure I really like his personality all that much yet, but man is an amazing fighter. All the talk of what a great grappler he is and we haven't even had to see it yet.
Excellent - never heard such a good explanation on what the BMF bet should be and to whom it belongs right now. Also good report about Topuria and Max. Deserves a like. Keep on!

Max was just not prepared for how sharp Ilia was or his confidence. He didn't look like he had done any prep, didn't have witty comeback lines and generally looked uncomfortable throughout. As for the BMF belt, Ilia is trying to build his brand and knows that outrageous stuff, like printing a fake copy of the belt and now claiming to be the BMF, is grist for the mill for MMA media. Money and power made that man fully psychotic over like a year or two. Luckily, Ilia has a much larger support system, a brother, and thus appears to be much more level headed in handling his rise to fame.
The whole reason for the BMF thing was to take away Max Holloway's greatest strength as a fighter, which is his ability to go to, as he calls it, "crazy town." Ilia Topuria's strategy was to show Max that he's crazier than he is; that he can beat him at his own game, thereby persuading him to not play it. Illia's boxing is vicious timed and the way he boxes for an MMA fighter looks right looks on point and very dangerous .
lol getting your bell rung over and over is a pre qualifier for the BMF? That’s a dumb take. BMF is a MFer who doesn’t back down and smokes his opponents. Exactly what the new champ does.
I think it should be Holloway vs Dan Hooker for the BMF. Hooker has a BMF vibe. Ilia was very likeable after the fight in the octagon when he said he wanted to hug Volk and he did everything for his family.
Thank you for clarifying to everyone what the BMF is and how you can’t win it if you’re not qualified for it. I’m so tired of hearing little brain people saying “BeLaL iS tHe LinEaL BMF”.
P.S. you got the exact definition of the B.M.F. belt perfect ... its when 2 gate holders face off against each other after haveing a long and destingueshed career
Great video as usual! Ilia has a point actually…BMF belt holders don’t usually fight for a legit title, almost by definition. Holloway was holding BMF and fighting for legit featherweight title.
I feel like the BMF belt is a legends belt and I also feel like Topuria became legendary on that night. To finish Volkanowski and Holloway back to back is very legendary. He literally finished 2 of the 3 best featherweights of all time. Incredible in my opinion
The BMF is a fan favorite veteran belt. It holds weight due to the fighters that have competed for it. The same fighters that carried the promotion post may/mac
Max will always be the Blessed Man Forever. Also interestingly, Conor's 16th fight was agaist Max Holloway and Topuria's 16th fight was also against Max, cosmic coincidence linking them again.
Topuria starts his combats way before he enters the cage. He is really good with symbolism, such as going into that interview with a bought BMF belt. He works his opponents psychologically. To show up after the fight with both belts is a way to project an image and to send a message. I think this video underestimates all that.
It’s undeniable that Ilia is a BMF. He just knocked out the BMF (first to do so). How can you really say that this guy isn’t a BMF? Love the channel, disagree on this one.
I missed that fight. Saw that Max was KOd I have avoided watching highlights. Fuck sakes man what a heartbreaker. I knew Ilia was good, no denying that. But the man just seemed bloody indestructable. Father Time puts his hand on all our shoulders eventually. As much as I could watch Max fight forever, if the Porier bout does come to fruition, let it be the last for both of them. They have done enough to etch their names in our hearts. Time to rest and watch their little ones grow.
I know what you're feeling man, I've also avoided watching Islam poirier/poirier Gaetjhe 2 highlights. it sucks and is so depressing watching our fav lose man😭
The only thing he lacks is an outward personality. He ain't a character he is just a fighter. But an excellent fighter. Hope it carries him or he learns from Poatan.
Ever since I saw Ilia in the UFC I had a feeling he could be one of the most talented MMA fighters we have ever seen. (I'm blown away after seeing how he already has this bionic man high tech laboratory that has tech in it I've never seen in a personal gym.. it's the stuff LeBron James spends millions on each year on his body. How does Topuria already have all that money after just winning the belt? Regardless it's just cool to see an athlete have that kind of stuff)
Because his family is Georgian. I assume he still feels a connection to the country. I’m Swedish/Chilean and even though I never lived in Chile, I still respect and care about the country.
I think it's not about Ilia taking the belt too seriously, it's about him taking himself extremely seriously, in a crazy manner. Thus I hereby prophetically proclaim that we can face another Rhonda-type scenario once he bites off more than he can chew. Connor, with all his shortcomings, had an agile, flexible mind and a grand vision. This is just tunnel vision attitude of "I'm the greatest, give the props, give me everything, every praise you have available, I want it if I've earned it". Also I wanted to say that the sound is great and is great for some time now, hope it compensates for my not-so-recent criticism of it before. :)
The only problem with Khamzat finishing Whitaker is that we already knew that he is a force to be reckoned with in the first one or two rounds so the same questions about Borz still remain unanswered.
"Show up and I will do the rest." This is an underrated line from Ilia. He did a great job building up this fight and standing on his word. Thank goodness we get to witness the Ilia era... I think it's going to be legendary.

lol getting your bell rung over and over is a pre qualifier for the BMF?
That’s a dumb take. BMF is a MFer who doesn’t back down and smokes his opponents. Exactly what the new champ does.
He didn't say getting your bell ring qualifies you for the bmf.
he literally said over and over you have to be in a bunch of “wars” to be the BMF…a “career” worth of them
Its hilarious! How GREAT Ilia did THE BMF MOVE! He have you making a 25min video talking about that! Thats hes goal, free publicity
I think it should be Holloway vs Dan Hooker for the BMF. Hooker has a BMF vibe.
Ilia was very likeable after the fight in the octagon when he said he wanted to hug Volk and he did everything for his family.
Hell yea. it's funny I had feeling that this video was coming today. forgot to check and it showed up itself :D
I loved the hole BMF narrative for this fight it added layers
Thank you for clarifying to everyone what the BMF is and how you can’t win it if you’re not qualified for it.
I’m so tired of hearing little brain people saying “BeLaL iS tHe LinEaL BMF”.
Illia is already on his way to be a hall of famer.
I'm a simple person. I see a Mixed MollyWhoppery video and I click
Solid BMF argument. You are the best
P.S. you got the exact definition of the B.M.F. belt perfect ... its when 2 gate holders face off against each other after haveing a long and destingueshed career
Perfect timing my guy!
Regardless of the bmf belt, Topuria has the best boxing I've seen in the UFC
The BMF is a fan favorite veteran belt. It holds weight due to the fighters that have competed for it. The same fighters that carried the promotion post may/mac
0:13 😂 very true 9:08 😂 i loved Ilia having the replica there, was awesome
Max will always be the Blessed Man Forever. Also interestingly, Conor's 16th fight was agaist Max Holloway and Topuria's 16th fight was also against Max, cosmic coincidence linking them again.
Thanks again!
Ilia turned his persona around to likable and awesome technique and smoke show wife
Saying Topuria is not a BMF is insane, he has the best KOs in the FW division and went to War with the other best KO artist of that division
Topuria with best 2 fight winstreak ufc history. Not even close
Featherweights? Yeah right 😂lol. I can't comment anymore. You ruin everything even MMA.
izzy-rob and romero, khabib- conor and dustin, volk max and aldo. not even close seems like an exaggeration
@@tylerberg4832 non of those u mentioned come close tbh
@@saintmoryant2553 you must be a newer fan then
@@saintmoryant2553 suffering from recently bias even islam has charles and volk
Topuria starts his combats way before he enters the cage. He is really good with symbolism, such as going into that interview with a bought BMF belt. He works his opponents psychologically. To show up after the fight with both belts is a way to project an image and to send a message. I think this video underestimates all that.
It’s undeniable that Ilia is a BMF.
He just knocked out the BMF (first to do so).
How can you really say that this guy isn’t a BMF?
Love the channel, disagree on this one.
Ilia will be a major superstar
I missed that fight. Saw that Max was KOd I have avoided watching highlights. Fuck sakes man what a heartbreaker. I knew Ilia was good, no denying that. But the man just seemed bloody indestructable. Father Time puts his hand on all our shoulders eventually. As much as I could watch Max fight forever, if the Porier bout does come to fruition, let it be the last for both of them. They have done enough to etch their names in our hearts. Time to rest and watch their little ones grow.
I know what you're feeling man, I've also avoided watching Islam poirier/poirier Gaetjhe 2 highlights. it sucks and is so depressing watching our fav lose man😭
Dude, Illia is a fighter and a fan of the sport that's why he wants the BMF. Because it's hardcore. That's all.
The only thing he lacks is an outward personality. He ain't a character he is just a fighter. But an excellent fighter. Hope it carries him or he learns from Poatan.
As long as ilia keeps winning he is extremely marketable. Speaks many languages, good looks, and knocks everyone out. Pretty marketable
Best Fighter Since Jon Jones. Don't ever doubt that.🌹
Great perspective on the bmf belt… and in my eyes max is all time BMF in the history of the sport
MMW, you sold me on the BMF discussion. Well spoken.
Illia was gangsta when he said, "the difference between you and me, you need to see to believe... I believe, and then I see"!
Mic 🎤 drop 💧
19:11 he had some pretty sick lines there
Everyone says that shit bro when it's your 110th time hearing it its not that sick lol.... but no matter what it's always true win or lose lol
Why does Ilia wear the Georgian flag when he was born in Germany and lives in Spain? He’s not asking Dana to come to Georgia.
I have to say that you drew my positive attention to Ilia with that video, though.
The only problem with Khamzat finishing Whitaker is that we already knew that he is a force to be reckoned with in the first one or two rounds so the same questions about Borz still remain unanswered.
