Agree with the below comment. In the UK too many supermarkets have a small range of poor quality South African wines that still give the consumer a poor impression of what is available. There are now lots of on-line wine merchants that offer a good selection of wines if you know what you are looking for. Unfortunately some of the better wines are now getting expensive compared to offerings from Chile and Argentina. It is a pity that some of the excellent wines I tried in South Africa which sold there for a less than $7 are triple that price when they hit the shelves here!
Great interview, Jordan! I think there is still a gap between the reputation and reality. Years of cheap cooperative-lead exports in the 90’s ruined their reputation abroad and now they’re facing an uphill battle...exciting region for us collectors, no doubt.
