Hey Lauren! Your content is just priceless. It helped me get into my dream schools - Harvard and Carnegie Mellon! I ONLY referred to your videos while writing my SOP, and they brought so much clarity to the process. Cannot thank you enough!
Thank you so much for sharing that with me! This is why I do this so people can learn about this process without paying for services. If you are willing to pay if forward and share your essays anonymously on this channel, you can email your essays to me at lauren@laurenvaldez.com
Lauren, I paused the video to write out this comment and just thank you for providing such helpful information! I appreciate your videos and perspective so much because they are clear and easy to put into practice. I've watched so many of your videos and put your tips to practice. I read my first "outline" before stumbling accross your videos and oh my... I see a difference. Thank you for giving me the confidence and boost I needed!
Thanks a lot for your insights, but what if I don't have a relevant story from my life relate to the field directly (Biotechnology and pharmaceuticals engineering) I know my story is unique but what piece of it I should choose for one intro is challenging.
There are many ways to approach an intro. You don’t need a personal story. A story works when you have a personal connection to the work. It’s also less common to start with a story for Stem essays. Check out the stem essay playlist on my channel. There is a phd in pharmacology and toxicology 500 word essay that will be a good example for you. ua-cam.com/video/wVg0cWAqMOM/v-deo.html
I want to talk to you ma'am.. I have a wonderful story to tell you and I want to to take some guidelines about how I can put my real life experience in eye catching words to demonstrate my story..
Great question. You want to highlight your resilience, what you learned, what you gained from an experience, rather than what went wrong. Schools want to see that you can overcome a challenge, as grad school is challenging. Also keep in mind that the people on the admissions committee will be professors and some grad students in the program who will be your future colleagues, so don't share anything you wouldn't feel comfortable with them knowing about you

How do you keep personal experiences from sounding too cynical?
