Spacex is fantastic. I would definitely buy stock if they go public!
I used to tell myself the same, but the thing is, a large part of the reason they are that fantastic is because they aren't public, and therefore don't have to answer to incompetent short term thinking moron bankers to get anything done.
Musk has said multiple times he regreted making Tesla go public and tried to make it private again once but there was a whole kerfuffle about that as well so that didn't happen. I highly doubt they will try with SpaceX, especially if they can keep self funding their projects.

Historically, the SpaceX story goes along with Ford, and some others like Standard Oil and the Oil industry, development of the steel industry like US Steel, etc. Even Boeing/Lockheed/Gruman and the WWII industrial builders.
Can’t wait to buy the book. First one was great and a must read.
