    Mr Wonderful lost his fight with cancer October 2019. Trying to figure out what to do when the pandemic hit. Couldn’t keep our home so sold and moved into a van, watching the housing market explode and trying to get back in somewhere. After 4 years of boondocking never paying campgrounds, rent or mortgage, I paid cash for 117 acres in Virginia. I just finished working a job in another state and tomorrow I’m heading back to my land to get started on my homestead. Life sure does have its ups and downs! Whatever your dream is, don’t give up.

    I went from homeless to homesteading in 5 years. Except I own my home outright. It was a very very hard process. I also have 2 acers with a stream and a mountain spring water fed home. It's a wood cabin home, 3 bedroom 2 baths. It's over 130+ years young, with all original wood floors, siding, and basically everything is original in the home. When we purchased the house, it was completely off grid. So we paid 40,000 for it. It was a long hard process that's for sure.

Or if the town will allow for nothing else, at least a new mobile home! I'll sell very cheaply or even give away this one to bless the next person trying to pull themselves up as long as they pay to haul it off!

    To anyone who thinks you cant do this.....
    OH YES YOU CAN!!!
    I turn sixty this year.
    I have been unable to work since 2005, due to illness 🤒😷🤕
    In 2020, hubby and I moved to a falling down farm. We moved here because we couldn't afford the healthy foods I needed to improve my health. For three years, I crawled around the garden (it's mostly sand, an ancient lake bed in Northern Minnesota.) This year my health is showing great improvement 🙌
    It is not easy. Life isn't easy. No one promised me a rose garden 🎵🎶🎵
    But every year, our health improves, our relationship improves, our homestead improves.
    My biggest dream now is that one of our grandbabies will learn to love this lifestyle & want to continue on after we are gone. But regardless of what will happen, we plant more fruit trees, more fruit bushes, and improve on the permiculture of our homestead.
    God has a purpose for what is being created here & He has been tremendously involved in the bounties we harvest every year. I am anxious to see what happens next.
    Sending Love & Blessings to your homesteads from beautiful Northern Minnesota ❤️

      Starting over on raw land in Alabama and I spent my years in the barn with the horses rather than in the garden or kitchen. I’m feeling my age lately and have been feeling discouraged. Reading this brightened my heart a little. Maybe I can learn as I go. I just need to get the seeds in the soil. They can’t grow unless I do it. 💛

    This story touches my heart so much. Growing up in a military family, the oldest of four girls, the constant moving. No roots to speak of and always worried what my sisters and I would face. And then a young widowed mother of two boys, my life's security, a roof over my head, that I could trust seemed to escape me. Another huge situation at 62 had me feeling lost, and potentially homeless. One of my sisters, and her husband, was able and kind enough to solve my situation. We scoured for a reasonably priced property in a safe location. And approaching the deadline we found the perfect place in another state. I am so relieved in my spirit and wake up grateful everyday. 10 months in I have a small garden, and chickens, some household repairs done. And am excited for the future. Years of happiness flow just writing this. The nutcases in DC can pound sand. I am not playing their games anymore. I'm going to keep developing this place, with the first priority of paying my loved ones back such a tremendous gift they've given me. ❤❤❤

    So many people on so many prepper channels complain that homesteading is only for the rich. I'm happy to see this video, because you are proof that anyone can do it if they set their mind to it! We couldn't qualify for a mortgage, but when the hammer dropped, I put my foot down and looked for money... We co- purchased 335 acres, seller-financed, with four other families!

    • @BreakingNewRoots
      @BreakingNewRoots  3 місяці тому +2

      That sounds amazing that you could go in on land with other families! Prices are insane to buy right now! It for sure has us looking at leases versus buying! We shall see what happens

    • @AgnesMariaL
      @AgnesMariaL 3 місяці тому

      @@BreakingNewRoots Our micro-community has since collapsed, unfortunately, but the land purchase was done through a corporation that we formed in order to protect both the individual families as well as the collective. Like, because we have a corporate contract l, if someone doesn't make their share of the payments, we can legally sue type thing. So far that hasn't happened, but a few families have discovered that off-grid homesteading isn't up their alley because "money" is better, so they've left - but still making their payments. Shame, I say, as money is not important: healthy homegrown food is!

      @@rioseventytwo1121 I’m thinking about that. The problem is that to sell an acre, it would have to be surveyed off, and I would need to have an easement to get to it and those documents are expensive. And then you would need a road put in to get to it.

Same. ❤ It was 2020, I had two tomato plants in pots on the porch and was working full time as an RN in hospital, and we all know what hit the fan. 💩 Made it 14 months then had to take some time off. Jessica Sowards entered my life via UA-cam. I started with a small garden, expanded it, expanded it again, put in a small greenhouse with a heat sink, learned to cook from scratch, learned canning, got chickens, found local farmers where I could purchase good meat in bulk. Upgraded the freezer. Ive not yet had to overcome what you have overcome. But damn girl, kudos to you!! We're in Amish country. Yes people do still live like this. ❤ Love the video. Well done friend. About a year ago on YT I learned about making compost in 5 gal.buckets. I have maybe 15 that I have scrounged, not purchased. I fill them with weeds (especially stinging nettles) & kitchen scraps (nothing goes to waste), then top off with water. They sit for a few weeks-months & become concentrated fertilizer tea. My soil was so bad at first, but in a short time, it's all become very green. When I see a plant that's not flourishing I pour some tea on it. Any solids left in the buckets I simply mix in with the soil then start filling it again.
    If you start eating meat you can sell your produce at a Farmer's Market.
    Anyway, your courage & persistence are admirable. Hats off to you ❤

    My 1st visit to your channel/ I could say a lot because I'm totally impressed but I'll just say I love your "can do" attitude". I think your Dad gave that to you and that is worth more than any money he could have given you. It is what has sustained you and gotten you where you are and will secure your future. You are also influencing your girls and passing on your positive attitude to them. And those goats are darling. 😊 As a single woman who raised 2 children on my own and I want to support other women who are entrepreneurs so I subscribed already.

    Vermont..... Wow.....I would have put the guess on Arkansas or Missouri. There are so many areas where the soil is terrible in those regions, rocky, etc. But with regenerative agriculture.......I think so many areas can be utilized to their best potential.

    • @BreakingNewRoots
      @BreakingNewRoots  3 місяці тому +1

      Vermont has so many areas that were commercially farmed that did not continue to be farmed. More talking large hay fields that are not maintained and are returning to woods! I think goats could really be an answer if someone were to obtain one of these properties!
