      If you wanna try some of the accessabilty options, they're pretty good. I have shit reaction time myself so I only beat it with dash-pause (pauses the game while dashes letting you look around and chose precisely which direction you wanna go) and slowed down gamespeed lol.

      I have PTSD on your behalf! It's been a few years since I played Celeste, but all those feelings of frustration came back. I love the game but, boy, is it hard. Relentless challenge after challenge; people say that Hollow Knight is super-hard, but at least it has breaks between the challenges and it allows you to upgrade to lessen the difficulty. That thing about 'regressing' is a fascinating gaming phenomenon. Happens a lot in games like Mario and Donkey Kong - you'll practically first-try a really difficult section, but unless you finish it in one, it'll then take countless attempts to master the bits you already did! ARGH!!

    Ellie, you need to know that Celeste is a hard game for literally every single person on earth, and it's normal to feel terrible at it sometimes, because so long as you show resilience, and learn, you WILL inevitably climb Celeste mountain... after some time...

    I think Ellie struggled with the engine block things in level 1 not because she's got poor timing necessarily but _because_ she's trying to time it. Celeste isn't a physics platformer where you're actually dealing with momentum and stuff like that so while you're holding on and accelerating, you won't actually get any of that speed unless you let go at the very end. And Celeste is also super generous about you being late when you let go, the block can come to a full stop and you still have some amount of time to get that speed afterwards. They're kinda finicky even to platformer players but she did a great job once she got a feel for it and stopped trying to anticipate the game and just played it and had fun!

    • @Imperial_Squid
      @Imperial_Squid 4 дні тому +2

      Also, if she wants to continue playing, there's no shame in using assist mode, turning down the speed a couple of ticks may help her develop some muscle memory and reflexes for this and other games, I 100% believe she could finish this if she wants to!

    • @Wilson-108
      @Wilson-108  4 дні тому +2

      Great point, that's very well put! I probably could have explained those blocks a lot better to her. She was definitely starting to get a feel for them as we were progressing. She did a really great job, overall. I had forgotten the game had an assist mode, I bet that would be a huge help for her. Maybe we can play around with that in the future or even make a part 2!

    I watched this when it first came out, but at the time it was 4 am for me and I was too tired to comment.
    Ellie did incredibly well! Celeste is an incredibly hard game and even though it was my 2nd time playing it still took me hours to get to where she stopped. While it was clearly frustrating for her (for good reason) I hope she still had fun.
    If you still want to keep playing it on camera or off camera I'd recommend trying out the assistance settings.

    I love this series. I just got my boyfriend to start Celeste two days ago. He had the exact same trouble understanding how the dash resets when you land, and later the same ~realization~ that you can dash in the air- even though he’d already done it dozens of times. I wonder what it is about Celeste that does that! Some subconscious intuition of the movement mechanics that just disappears in the face of puzzles.

      Thanks very much, Blake, I'm really glad you're enjoying it! That's so interesting to hear that your boyfriend has been having a similar experience. It’s always so interesting that many people ignore aspects of the game’s tutorial in their attempt to grasp the game’s mechanics. this video is so nice, i love celeste and ive made a lot of my friends play it, each had varying levels of gaming skills and not all of them managed to beat the game but its just amusing to me how personalised this game feels, each person got stuck in different places that some others managed to just first try, of course none of them started good at the game, but the ones who beat it were so proud of their ability to go back to what once was a hassle to them and appreciate how good they've become, granted i did help my friends during their playthroughs unlike this video where you focused on letting ellie figure it out, but i didnt really have to teach them about game mechanics, it was mostly on how they approached levels, how they tried to solve them and what they did wrong, i remember struggling so much when i first started and one of the reasons was the tunnel visioning issue ellie was facing where i would focus on one way to clear a room and never consider another because if it got me this far surely there isnt a better way to do it, but this just isnt the case, celeste has changed me, i now get less nervous, can very easily read whats up coming for me in a room because im no longer panicking for making progress, and no longer get mad for dying, granted i do get frustrated for getting stuck at times but not too much because knowing this game, it does its best to help you clear things in terms of raw game mechanics, and the mistakes i make are my way to slowly progress through the screen, im sorry this comment got so long but i just loved sharing my experience because this video reminded me of good things

    There are few things more frustrating in video games than when the controls don't respond like you want them to. It feels like you're lost in the dark while being cheated out of your time and efforts, and it's infuriating. This seemed to be the closest Ellie has gotten to rage quitting. I do wonder if she will eventually play a game that makes her so angry that she throws/breaks the controller.
    Also, it was amusing to hear her talk about sweaty strained hands while playing, realizing she probably hasn't had that happen with a game before. Reminds me of a nostalgic time.

It's an RPG similar to the first two Paper Mario games, which means it'll also help improve her timing. It's not too difficult by itself but it has a Hard Mode medal to help with that, just in case you wanna keep making her play challenging games.

    I knew Ellie vs Celeste was bound to happen at some point.
    Playing this game would force her to face some of her biggest struggles so far (platforming and timing). Considering Celeste is mostly focused on those aspect and of the hardest nother less, she would definitely improve and inevitable get better with those things on other games.
    And Ellie did a great job considering the extra height or her back because of the time limit, don't know if she would agree with an episode 2 but Celeste have this magic of attacking all types of players to even the more casual ones, so I think she should at least complete that one room of camera, even if she doesn't want to touch the game ever again after that. It would be important to her to feel that she surpassed herself and completed something she labeled as impossible.
    Now as for the "punishment" she can give you when she beats your death challenges maybe it can be her turn to make you try something: a game you always thought it would be too much, a nightmare mode/difficulty that most players don't want to even hear of, or a crazy run that only a "machinist" would want to attempt.

    • @Wilson-108
      @Wilson-108  4 дні тому +1

      Oh yeah, we had to try Celeste!
      Definitely, timing seems to be the single biggest struggle for her regarding specific video game challenges. I agree, I think she did a great job, much better than she gives herself credit for! I'd love to make another Celeste episode at some point, hopefully we can get to that.
      That's a great idea, we'll definitely have to get me to play something in the future that's incredibly difficult ;)

    Every time I watch a new person play celeste they somehow all develop *completely* different incorrect assumptions about how the mechanics work.
    I've never seen someone not understand that dashes are limited use before.
    I've never seen someone convince themselves that they can't dash in mid-air before.
    Every time it's like a whole new experience.

    even as someone who is pretty good at games, her reaction to level 3 is 100% correct! bullshit level that doesn’t feel skill based for most of the time you’re playing- you’re beholden to the timing of the game and not your own abilities

    i love this sires and i want take a minute to talk about this game couse its my favorite game
    i feel like when playing platformers especially celeste you cant get angry couse you will fall into a rhythm of failing the level and getting angrier you got to enjoy the time in the screen for me it really helps to know that i will beat the screen it will just take some time and getting angry prevents you to think out side the box and experiment how can you beat this screen which sometimes is necessary
    and when new mechanics which happens all the time in celeste (even after beating the game there is ton of mechanics u dont know about thats why the mod strawberry jam so many gyms )its good to not try to jump into the next screen and take time to understand the mechanic until u master it

    betting 500 deaths, you either have way too much faith in her, or underestimating celeste's difficulty severly... probably both.
    i mean, you probably have a lot of faith in her, else you wouldn't be puttting her through these... most likely.
    a word for Ellie, for this kinda games, taking breaks is important, i'm sure you can win it eventually, you just have to calm yourself and come back with a fresh mind.

    Little tip that you can feel free to ignore if you would like: sometimes the words you use are very extra dont get me wrong i do that shit all the time but it often messes with the flow of things ie conversations and the dumb people of youtube often cannot fathom words bigger than two syllables essentially dumb it down to make the flow better lol
