    When I was a kid, whenever I used the electric can opener the cat would come running into the kitchen. Quite Pavlovian.

    I was the assistant director at a women's shelter in 2012. We had a kitchen with no stove. Those electric skillets allowed us to cook for, sometimes, 70+ women and children. Home Depot, graciously, donated a fully furnished kitchen to us in 2014. We were so grateful. However, those days of using several electric skillets and the fellowship with the women while cooking was certainly not lost on any of us.

      Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories with us. Those skillets really are handy and it isn't a bad thing to have around. You never know when your stove top could go out or you just need extra cooking space. They are also easily portable.

    I remember these kitchen colors and looks, lol. I miss those times very much. I was born in 1961 and was a 9-year-old kid in 1970. 60s & 70s, best times to have been a kid. 👍🏻

      @pamelaspooner7183 2 місяці тому +1

      Yes, the 90’s meant the crockpot had a removable ceramic pot so cleanup was simple. Trying to clean the original that was an intact electrical appliance was a nightmare and flat out dangerous.

    Wow, so many of those were in my Grandparents kitchen, then passed down to my parents and now I’ve still got a few. But, the one I miss the most and don’t have was that popcorn popper with the rotating wire arms to keep the kernels moving in the oil. My brother and I LOVED watching the process and got so excited as the top-hat cover filled up with popcorn. Takes me back😃

    My house had the bun warmer, hot dog cooker (which was great), electric knife, electric frying pan (avocado green), meat grinder, asparagus cooker, popcorn popper, seal-a-meal, sandwich press, crockpot (harvest gold) - we had it all as my mom was a gadget fanatic!! My son & daughter in law make popcorn in a pan. My little grandsons have never had microwave popcorn. I wish I had a stove top percolator. I remember as a very little girl having coffee from one. I have drank some coffee with my great aunt & grandmother. My son has drank coffee with both sets of grandparents since he was 4. We are both 6 feet tall disproving that coffee stunts your growth. The mention of Bun Warmers sparked a memory of a Garfield Strip, which after looking it up, was from September 18, 1980. And as for Ice Cream Makers, that immediately made me think of the character of Willrow Hood from Empire Strikes Back. If the name doesn't sound familiar, that's ok, he's a background character that was only named decades later as a result of the Star Wars fandom wanting an intricate backstory for anyone who was ever on screen, no matter how brief.

    I remember the Kitchen Aid mixer back in the 1970's. Yes, kitchens of the 1970's were different. I've never heard of it being a hassle to buy peanut 🥜 butter 🧈, as opposed to making it at home 🏡. Some of these appliances are too archaic for me, even back in the 1970's. The meat 🍖 slicer, and electric knife 🔪, and such, I know. Same with the popcorn maker, ice cream 🍦 maker, and microwave oven I also familiarly know, along with the waffle iron. Your friend, Jeff.

  • @brandiwynter

    I remember my mom having these giant steel gizmos in the 70's. One was a giant juicer and the other was a giant milkshake maker. I honestly don't remember getting any fresh orange juice or milkshakes so either she quickly decided those counter behemoths weren't worth the trouble or they were used for the adults only. When you grew up on military bases in the 70's there were TONs of "adult parties".
    We had that exact same Regal Poly Pop popcorn maker, I used to love staring at it and waiting for those first kernals to pop and dropping the butter on top to drip down on the popcorn as it rose up. That was a gadget I loved. We also had the electric knife, I have one in a drawer but never use it. A good knife works much better.
    The modern version of vacuum packers are awesome. We have a waffle maker as well and yes, it does make awesome waffles. My mom used her electric skillet so much I think she probably wore some out lol. We had probably 80% of the products in the video, I'm starting to think my mom may have been a gizmo addict 🤔.

    My parents had a fondue set even though it wasn't so cool anymore at that time. I can't remember them using it at all. They put it away in the storage room. My grandpa had an electric knife. Now that is something I remember in action, as he used to cut the turkey in a family dinner during Xmas! He was so proud.. When talking about the ice cream maker you mentioned it's easier to buy ice cream in the store... I don't know how the economy is in the US, but in my country ice cream price has risen too much to afford, thus I bought an ice cream maker attachment for my mixer to make my own and much cheaper. Oh and I remember the pop corn maker too. We still use it sometimes during the year but not too often... Nice video. Lots of memories, as there are appliances I remember seeing in other houses too.

      Thank you for watching and sharing some of the items that your family has had and used. Things are definitely a lot higher and especially with what wages are. Pay has not risen in the same percent as products and everything else has. Depending on the brand of ice cream it can get quite expensive. What I will say is there are several different kinds of luxury ice cream that didn't exist 40 years ago. At least not in my area. I have never tried them because I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money on them. No matter how much those things are there are people that are buying it. They keep selling it and people will always pay more for convenience.
