I was in Japan, evening, flagging a cab trying to rush to the train station to catch the last bullet train out. The driver gave me every information I needed to catch my train in time. He cut through lanes in his prius and got me there with some time to spare. I wanted to give a generous tip but I knew that it's an insult so best I could do was bow and thanked him in my broken Japanese.
Meanwhile, a sandwich shop near home, I decided to skip the tip option for a $9 sandwich and the cashier gave me dirty look. Why should I tip when I'm the one driving there and delivering it home?.
Being a former server, I remember the receipt would recommend 10-20% for a tip but now when I go out to eat, the recommended tip starts at 18%-20% and the service is so bad. I feel as if the hospitality industry has gone downhill because the people working expect a good tip regardless of the service they provide.
It’s not even just the service. I went to a pub, ordered shrimp and a Greek salad.
The ENTIRE time i chewed on the shrimp and the salad I thought to myself : “man, I could have made this so much better…..”
The ingredients, the sauce choice for spicy shrimp, the choice of shrimp (bigger shrimp is chewy.)
The Greek salad should have had tomatoes and olives and mushrooms.
Pissed me off.
Got a straight whiskey with it.
Know how much it cost me? 75$.
75 FUCKING dollars for a meal and a drink!
I didn’t even order a fancy cocktail drink, just a goddamn straight whiskey.
I didn’t complain about the food, but holy crap…. Fuck eating out.
If you worked as a server and have this take....you're brain dead. The employer needs to pay a livable wage or close their little restaurant that isn't really that great in the first place.
Fr I never minded the tip option but now it’s minimum 18 / 20% which is insane and the entitlement is crazy
Oh shit I didn’t know it was 10-20 now I see 18 if it’s a party of 4
I never follow the percentages.
Tipping in California is crazy.
People do wym bro I never did but working where you get tips you tend to tip
@@Troywitthecoi in most states, waitresses, waiters, and bus boys are paid the federal minimum wage about $7 and survive on tips. In California, each person is getting state minimum wage which is that’s currently at $16-$20 an hr. Depending on their position, leads probably around $22-$30 an hr. No way should a waiter and waitress get tip on top of that, courtesy tip okay. But to expect a tip in CA is crazy.
Fast food workers are getting paid more than folks busting their ass off in warehouses do w.e for society needs. Paid more than entry level constitution workers for sure.
As a past server, I never tip at establishments where they do that "ipad flip" thing at, like, concession stands or coffee shops (but maybe I'll tip at a coffee shop, like, $1, since they actually make a drink for me). You did nothing. Like wtf
Yea that’s true I only don’t tip if it’s an iPad service
I had this cashier at a concession stand look at me when the tip part came up and I looked at the girl in the eyes and then I looked at the square machine and declined the tip. All she did was to sell me a candy bar in the concession stand and she was expecting a tip.
Nah dude barbers went from charging $20 to like $50 … I’m only tipping if they squeeze me in for a last min appointment or I’m late
Also hair stylists. For a trim only they are charging over $45
I thought you meant if they squeeze me😂😂😂
Fuck tipping. This is why I prefer to travel to Asian countries where service is amazing and no tipping culture
Pay your employees enough or increase price to accommodate it.
Same with Europe. Good service and no tipping.
But you're right. I was in S. Korea a few years ago and it was so nice to be served and not have to worry about tipping.
$18 for a McDonald's hamburger meal is now a reality to accommodate employee wages in California. Are you willing to spend that?
Damn so fuck merica
I was wondering how long before this requisite comment would pop up
@@Ideo7ZTheyre just greedy. In n out didnt raise that much for the customers, and still pay their employees $18 an hr. They still profit, and i would go to them any day over McDonald's. Im pretty sure a lot of people share my sentiment. It doesnt have to be either or, bro. The hell with mcdonalds if they would serve $18 a combo. Theres plenty if good legit restaurants I can go to for that much.
Tipping has a lot of gray areas like typically you don't tip bus drivers, but you do tip charter bus drivers and you typically tip shuttle bus drivers, but don't tip airport shuttle bus drivers go figure.
"Oh, you want a tip?"
*unzips pants*
"Turning the brightness down on your phone preserves the battery and puts less stress on your, 'Where's my tip?' looking ass eyes."
lol then don't let Anthony near your phone. You know how he "spams the brightness button". 😂
@@bethnichols2875 I almost forgot about that 😂
I want to say it might include donating to charities also. Going to Panda Express or Taco Bell for example, it's the "do you want to round up to donate to schools" or whatever. You don't really know where the money's going. Even if it is legit, I'd rather donate to something more directly.
They do donate it but they donate it in their behalf and get a tax right off. As if it came from their pockets.
Very true. Those professional fundraising companies, that call on behalf of some charity, actually pocket more of the money raised then the charity they were supposed to be collecting money for. There are also some charities that if you make an online donation will ask you if you want to pay extra to "cover the administrative fees".
Customer service has also gotten pretty bad
1:47 It’s been this way in Canada since the beginning of time.
When it comes to counter service for fast casual spots, I tip depending on the attitude of the cashier and whether they’re making my order themselves. Even though I have worked in the service industry, I still don’t care to tip everyone. One place I worked at, the owner paid the staff way before minimum wage so we’d rely on tip but would use the tips to pay us $15/hr and anything left over would be the tips earned, he lied on the job ad saying they pay $15/hr ($17-$21 with tips). After that, I was put off from tipping counter service restaurants. It’s not my problem as a consumer to cover for your boss’s lying, underpaying a ss.
Tipping is such a wild American (and now Canadian) concept. Most of the world doesn't expect a tip, bc servers and everyone should be paid for the job they do.
I get tipping servers that are making under minimum wage but tipping hair dressers, etc. for services that they already charge you a fixed rate for?? why? that never made sense to me. Sure, they did a good job, but isn''t that what you're paying for? For them to do a good job? I don't understand it at all.
Like Joe, I didn’t know that you’re supposed to tip housekeeping at a hotel, even though a lot of people don’t tip. I read online that they don’t make that much. Now I leave a tip. If you do tip housekeeping, leave it on your pillow.
"this guy didn't tip" 😂
9:52 Joe was not tipping his barbers 💈😅😅 they must have been like fuck this guy lol
Time to carry cash 😅
I don’t make I contact and if they judge me after I don’t care - Walmart got me bagging my own ish and want a tip - SUCK A EGG
Hahaha I love that expression
@@JustKiddingNews …… stop flirting with me I have gf and I’m not gay Anthony!!!!!YOU SEX HAVER!!!!! But thank u
I don't tip especially when they ask before I get the dang food for all I know the food could be trash
lolol with the edit next to Subin @9:57 of "imma fuckin kill this guy" when Joe said he didn't know you were supposed to tip for haircuts. 🤣
I used to have a job where I worked out of town Monday thru thursday so we stayed at a motel throughout the week...often the same one for a while when we were in a particular area. Anyways the ladies that did the housekeeping were great usually. They always did a good job and would hook us up with extra towels etc. Sometimes I'd leave a note of thanks and throw them $5 and the roommate would often do the same. If they deserved it I was happy to throw them something. I've stayed at certain motels tho where the housekeeping was SKETCHY AS FUCK!! At those places I'd make damn sure not to leave anything of serious value in that room. Cause I've seen instances where the housekeepers would swipe loose change and any money laying around, they'd grab phone chargers etc. So sometimes it's best to be cautius
I went to a place where they didn't turn the ipad around and i think they were giving themselves a tip.
Business owners should provide a liveable or fair wage to their employees and not put the responsibility on their customers, as many countries like Japan find tipping offensive.
Honestly as a barista in a Korean bakery atp as long as I get a dollar tip shiiit I’ll take it and when people tip 5-10% tip I get shocked asf
Just tell them it’s against my religion to tip, works every time!!
Why does the tip increase with the price of the menu. And why does the server get the tip when the cook is the backbone of the restaurant. A $300 total at a fine dine restaurant is an automatic 20% tip to the server!? like wtf. You can’t even just tip the server $10.
They can pay them 2$ an hr and if the tips don’t receive minimum wage of 7.25 then the company will reimburse it’s crazy
Weed dispensaries here in Illinois have top boxes everywhere. Im not tipping a cashier (bud tenders in illinois are nothing more than cashiers), especially not when im forced to pay $65 or more for an 8th of bud + over 30% in taxes..... fuuuuuuuck them! LOL
So your mad because you have to pay normal prices for weed😂😂😂
I was at a merch stand at a concert and they asked for tip 😫
Tipping has become expected now & I have an issue with that. I'm with Joe on this. If you give me good service, you'll get good tip. Easy as that. When I was a server, I'd be happy with just a $2 tip. If I'm turning over 50 tables that entire day, I would make $100 extra for just that day. Anything extra is amazing. People are just so entitled now that it's getting out of hand.
Been watching reservoir dogs and been thinking of this a lot and I know im cheap but am I that bad? I dont tip industrial mcdonalds subway or starbulcks, pick ups thats over $40, or places with overpriced bottled drinks, a ceiling guy did a shoddy job and i had to paint the whole ceiling, thought about it with a 5 in my pocket. Ive tipped guitar string repair, exterminator, and our spectrum guy for showing me how to really reset the new boxes, And i used to keep bills and a quarters and gave the change as tip, 17¢ how nice...
When I get my haircut it's $17 and then I give it $20 $3 tip
Yeah house calls u gotta tip the barber. I go to Great Clips cuz I'm a brokey. 21 for the 1 all around and I tip 5 bucks on top. Also, if dude asks me for a spot in the gym. Ima whip out the square app and get a tip 🤣.
sorry kalyne but i don't think tips mean To Insure Promptness, it's not even using the right word it's ensure not insure so it would be called teps not tips
Yay new episodes
Aren't you supposed to leave a 20 or a 100 in your a, for the TSA worker?
Imagine you at barbell brigade and get ask for a tip after you get a spot
Than sometimes you put an amount and it will ask , this is 6.6% of the total amount correct? Wild
I tipped like 33% for a single beer and the bar tender called my name out and gave me a bad look and said "really man?" I was a 5 dollar beer. Like bro u want me to tip u 50 or 100% for a single beer that u barely talked to me for? And u have the audacity call me out infront of people and make me look bad? I wanted to call his ass out so bad.
33 is good though
I only tip at sit down places 5 percent if the service is bad and sometimes 0 if it deserves it. Now if the services is great 20 percent minimum and maybe more if they went above and beyond
Lol Ryan with the Gen Z memes
personally I would only tip at a family restaurant especially the Chinese ones cause they got a lot to clean
Yo how did that tip go😂😆✈️?
I tip my bank😅
At the buffet there was a pre made tip for 15% but at a high end restaurant they don’t have it so I was like 🤨
Im guilty of tip shaming for more tips💀… i hand them the receipt for to-go orders and give them a sharpie and just stare them down while they sign it. Without fail its always at least 5 dollars. I dont necessarily feel great about this but a mf gotta do what i got to do😂
Amendment to the Constitution! Tipping is prohibited everywhere in the United States. Wages must be increased to reflect this change. $2 per hour wage increases to $15+ per hour, and no tips will be accepted or even legal to accept anymore. This is wishful thinking, But I am sure many many people would like this..... I am on Social Security Disability. They are not getting more than a few dollars from me each time I go out to eat even while great service. I don't have extra money to give and prices on thing have increased greatly. Disability payments don't increase in as fast as the prices of goods and services and damn it food. Usually Social Security like only increase payments by like less the 5% every year. $1000 would become $1050 at 5% for the next years monthly payments. Rent, food, things, cars, gas, and other shit have increased at a rate the people on disability and retirement can't handle well with their money they receive anymore. They have to pick carefully what they spend their money on or they are screwed. Not adding 30% tips to every damn thing or service as I can't. I go out to eat a lot less now as I need to be able to afford more important things. Like 1 or 2 times per month is what I limit myself to now....
I tip my barber always 50$ a cut bro gets $20 tip tattoos artist thoo charge 1,000 they don’t need a tip
You are always supposed to tip the cleaning lady.
The only people I tip that don't wait on me is my starbucks. It's always crazy in there and they definitely crank it out drinks.
I've heard the "to insure promptness" explanation too but i can't find anything actually verifying it, also the word is ensure not insure, insure is a word but is specific to property damage by definition
Change the system. Pay them at least a minimum wage and tipping is optional.
I thought "ensure" was spelled with an "E". In the sense that Colleen was referring to that is.
You thought correctly. It's not an acronym.
I don’t tip at all
lol but I don’t go back to the same place again so who cares
First ftw
My whole ass $2000 from the government did not go to tips bro. Wtf are they smoking?
Seeing as though you aren't everyone, it doesn't mean they were specifically referring to you. Joe and Ryan were mostly referring to the fact that during lockdown the big push was for "support small businesses", "support local restaurants". And pushing for people to tip more because of the fact that so many people lost their jobs when the business they worked for wasn't deemed an essential business, so it was recommended to be extra generous to those still working "on the front lines".
You’re really only supposed to tip people who make less than minimum wage. When I’ve worked where we made minimum wage or more, we were not allowed to accept tips. It’s illegal.
Something on google said it’s a myth so idk
I had someone ask if I was missing anything after picking up my own pizza, he was pushing for a tip
I got that look too at a Dominos. If I had to drive there and get out of my car to pick it up why should I tip them?
Isn't America only country that has tipping? I live in Europe and i have tipped only 1 or 2 things in my 39 years lifetime.
It’s common practice in Canada too
@@Wavingfly yeah it's wierd i don't get it. If we had a place where people didn't get paid enough so we they need to relay on tips. That place would have been shut down. 😂
no it is the only country were it is basically mandatory as from what i heard europe does do it but it is more of something done if the person wants to give extra for the employee really doing a god job
@@tacaloking4 let's be honest no one is doing realy good job anywhere 😂😂😂
Tipping is considered offensive in Asia.
This shit doesn’t work on me. I make sure they see I click zero.
Taxi drivers are like that . This guy knew I was tired and while I was trying to do the tip selection he leaned the machine to the right side to give him a bigger tip and I’m like bruh. It was a 12 mins car ride.
at cafes, i take the time to enter $1 or $2 because that’s what I’d tip if i had cash. lol.
Now that Ryan said about tipping the landlords. I won’t be surprised they start doing this 😂
If I call in an order, or online order, I’m just pull up for takeout, I’m not tipping, but if I dine in then ofc but very rarely before, always after it shows gratitude in this country, it shouldn’t be normalized in crazy economic standards, just another way for them to tax us even on our tips, cash or not at all
Housekeeping supervisors steal tips 😫
My mom was in housekeeping. She says put the tip under the pillow
@@alany8880 yeah but it’s not the same housekeeper who collects the tips
@@mato_fato_ma-ah-fala-falafel I tip every day I’m there, so when the housekeeper that cleans my room gets the tip. My mom had Sat/Sun off. If a person stays Sun-Sat, my mom would clean all week for that room and the weekend housekeeper keeps the tip and my mom loses out. There’s no splitting tips among housekeepers. @@mato_fato_ma-ah-fala-falafelI tip everyday of my stay instead of a lump sum tip at the end of the week. This is to ensure whoever cleans my room will be tipped that day. My mom had Sat/Sun off. I went to Action Bronson concert. When paying for my merch, it gave me an option to leave a tip 🤣😂🤣
Joe probably thinking clover, thats another company.
Dont just write $0.00
Write the word Zero when writing it.
I never understood american tipping culture like why is serving people their food more important than every other job. Like don't they already get monthly pay😂😂😂
wait why are they reporting a massive profit. i thought tips go to the employees
i work at a candy store that uses a square pos and you can see all the transactions and the fees. (%/amount of transaction that square takes) I'm not certain but i think on top of buying the pos and maybe your subscription? that's how they make that much w sm ppl using square
This was a funny one 😅
tipping culture is so wack
Like tipping baristas or Fast food
I may be ghetto but if its like fast food or some i pick up
I just be roundin up to the next whole dollar or no tip at all 😂
If im at a sit down for sure $5+
I only tip for services like a waiter/waitress at a restaurant or even my barber.
That sounds similar to when people that claim they are calling on behalf of charities try to guilt shame me when I say I have no money to give. They have claimed things like they assume I don't care about the people the charity is supposed to benefit, or they claim I spent all my money on Christmas gifts, as if I am being selfish. When the fact is, either I really don't have the money, or I have other charities I am more familiar with that I would rather give my money to. Not to charities that cold call, where you don't know if they are actually reputable.
In California and Washington minimum wages were raised and cities passed living wage requirements on top of that and they still expect you to tip. This on top of massive increases in the cost of food. So this b.s. is not going away even if they raised the minimum wage nationwide.
I just recently began tipping the people at hotels. Sometimes I don't know if their pay depends on tips, like service industry. So I do fall for the guilt 😂
I’m from Singapore where tipping does not exist and went to America for the first time this year. It was so stressful tipping. I simply do not tip at places where I do not receive service like coffee shops, cookie shops, etc
My nearest market has a tipping near the bagging area
When I’ve gone to Mexico with my fam they leave big tips for the house keepers and servers
I'm at the point where I don't tip, ever. Even in situations where the workers don't get hourly wages. I know this makes me sound like an asshole but it's a ridiculous system that has gotten out of control and I think we're at the point that the system needs to break in order to fix it.
Yeah we’re at a weird point now where even tho everyone agrees this is an awful system that stems from bosses offsetting employee wages unto the customers, the customer is the asshole for not wanting to participate or contribute to this system.
It literally only continues due to the general populations guilt of servers not making enough money. It’s unfortunate, but I agree that we all have to kinda be an asshole for a while to fix this
Such a rebel
I never tip. At all except a restaurant and thats only if its a table if its just me nope
So you tip
Yes, if you’re cutting hair from your house, you should not be getting tipped as well because you’re not paying a chair fee. You’re not being extra nice by not making people pay more when you’re already making more.
Yeah, definitely not for just tipping the standard when I’ve had servers who have gone above the standard. I’m talking already paying attention to detail to know what we need before. We’re asking, I never have to call them because they’re already there checking making sure we need something, or I tell them this is what I desire from a menu and based off of their recommendations, they get me close to or what I desire. And I’m not saying I should never have to ask my server for a thing and they should always know but when I’ve had servers set those standards of very observant and on top of their job; it makes me look for that standard and question why would I be tipping somebody who’s doing less?
Not to mention most prices of food items are going up by $5-$7 so now I feel like what am I tipping. An eight piece bone in meal from Wingstop used to be 12 bucks now it comes out to 17 and that just happened within January in my area. And then I’m supposed to tip on top of that here.
